  • Part 3. Finishing off the floor framing.
    In this video, we continue our floor framing project, using @roseburgforest I Joists with LVL top and bottom flanges for long spans. We'll show you our efficient process for laying out and cutting the joists, and highlight some important details like the continuous insulation from the slab to the mud sill. We'll also give you a closer look at our @PaslodeUSA XP nailers, which we love for this kind of work. Check out the real-time footage of us rolling the joists, and get some tips on how to attach them to the wall without splitting. Join us for this multi-part series and learn how to build a strong and efficient floor system for your next construction project.
    Please remember that I'm not showing the best way to do anything, but just the method that works well for us. Thanks for watching!
    Oh and another takeaway, if you use a drone for commercial work, you need to be part107 certified. Commercial work includes social media like RUclips if you plan to make an income off of that. I watched a video about this last May and then purchased the Part 107 Course sso.teachable.... I studied and learned for 1 month and then took my test. I scored a 95%, which is a testament to how good Greg and the crew over there teach. That link will save you $100 off the course and support this channel.

    You have to be one of the best caretaker of apprentices! You don’t rule with an iron hand except with safety rules! I worked around tons of guys who just leave the apprentice to his own imagination? Then they p/ u tons of bad habits ! You are a man that has learned the value of proper training !
    I learned from my Dad who showed me rule one “ work ethic”! You will survive the learning curve if your trainer sees a solid work ethic!

    why is the garage not concrete? super curious about that

      Just an option rather than a suspended concrete slab. Either will work fine.

    Sorry I missed it - but why we’re the floor joists on top of the wall in the rear, however (out front) they were below the top of the foundation wall?

    So are your plans drawn as "advanced framing" studs on 24"?

  • @mikecraftsmancustombuilder3650

    I know you get a million questions every video 😬 but I'm curious if you consider it desirable to have a course of wall sheathing break on the rim joist, or if you have any qualms about having sheets span right over the floor framing, from lower floor to upper floor? And does it depend on if you're using engineered or dimensional lumber? Thanks for all the content :)

    • @AwesomeFramers
      @AwesomeFramers  Год назад +1

      All good questions. Unless our engineer specifies the floors be connected with straps, it doesn't matter where the sheathing breaks as long as it breaks on solid blocking or framing. If it works out I prefer to break roughly center on the rim, but my first priority is efficient use of material. The major issue is making sure it breaks on framing. If you notice in this video ruclips.net/video/9X-js9gXSME/видео.html the sheathing is just plate to plate on each floor.

    I've seen several videos posted by firefighters and fire fighting organizations where they state that if the arrive at a building which is on fire and they discover that the building is built with I-joists for the floor or roof system, they won't enter inside because they know that the building has a far greater likelihood of collapsing while they are in there due to the fact that an I-joist is much less structurally sound than regular 2x material.
    When is it better to build with fire safety in mind and use 2x material rather than ease and speed of construction using I-joists?
