- It’s no secret that Arsenal have struggled to find the right balance in the 23/24 season and despite being on course for more points than last season, Arsenal aren’t playing the same kind of fluid football as last season. A big part of that has been the shake up to midfield, with Thomas Partey struggling with injuries this season and Arsenal selling Granit Xhaka meaning they’re only playing one of the regular midfield three that took them to 2nd in the Premier League. Whilst Partey has largely been replaced by Declan Rice, Xhaka’s number 8 role is still up for grabs so today we’re going to take a look at the kind of profile that Arsenal could look to recruit.

I disagree on Kai's defensive output, he is a presence defending both in the air and in the tackle.
Yes he's better at defending than I thought and I think they played this slow football due to fatigue and I hope they keep on playing this type of football untill feb-
Absolutely, he's 2nd or 3rd in most of the defensive stats if anyone doesn't wanna acknowledge the obvious eye test of him winning duels left, right and center.
Also, what these constant videos always fail to understand is that we don't want to replace Xhaka with Xhaka2 or a regen Xhaka! One of the reasons Granit played like that is because he had certain attributes we wanted to bolden and certain shortcomings we wanted to not get into. Havertz is an extremely different player and he's learning to play one of the most complicated positions in our set up. You're missing the whole point if you want us to revert back to another Xhaka, as brilliant as he was for his final year of his 7 year spell here.
Weird how "Statman" Dave didn't see the stats on Havertz defensive numbers
For people who are confused with Kai’s defensive output. His defensive stats in that Newcastle game were more higher then Declan Rice. Tackles won, headers won, challenges won.
You are right. He recovers 2.3 ball per game. Xhaka recovered 0.5 per game last season.

Defence is what Havertz does best: he is intelligent, anticipates his opponent's passings and movements well. Perhaps not so talented in tackling, but he always reads the game well and makes the right decisions. (edit:typo)

I think Arsenal needs more of 6/8 than a 8/10 or flat 8. As great as Rice is receiving from the CBs and evading the press isn’t his strongest suit. Martin on occasion had to be deep to receive or Zinny. We need a 6 that is press resistant that can also carry the ball creating space in the midfield for Martin and Saka, and a good ball winner (typing this out makes me realize how many things Partey does).
Zubimendi is good at. Whatever happens i think arteta will have to get rid of Elneny, Partey and Jorginho this summer and replace them with reliable and younger players. Zubimendi, Palinha, Onana...those..it will allow Rice to play n8

@@thespizz5074 no. He's saying Rice is at the moment playing everything competition, everything role (6,8), and if hes injured our team will sink, as City sink without Rodri. Partey is not reliable, too injury prone. Elneny doesnt have the level and Jorginho cant handle the off ball part.
With Palinha and Douglas luiz, or any very good n6 and n8, Arsenal would have a top midfield for all competitions. Right now the situation is risky..but lets hope Rice is like Rodri, never injured...
You haven't been watching Arsenal play this season if you think that Havertz is a defensive liability
I have watched Arsenal throughout this season and Havertz has worked hard and been effective in the games he has played in. I do acknowledge that he has been nervous in front of goal but I am hopeful that issue has been dealt with.
Havertz also seems popular with his team mates .

Only proper option dave gave in the video is zubamendi which Arsenal have already expressed intrest. Looking to replace havertz in lcm which he discussed majority of the video is useless, not a solution to a pblm we have. Making me question a man utd fan making video about arsenal, intentions.
Douglas Luiz would be a quality sugning but he is very important to Aston Villa. My Dad is a Villa fan and I watch a fair amount of Villa games, Dougie is integral to their gameplan.
Wouldn't Fofana from Monaco be a good option for a 6? That can help Rice play on the 8.
The skillset required is basically Havertz
Love these vids, but would be nice if you also considered/mentioned academy options when discussing internal options.
Lewis-Skelly and Nwaneri as well as Patino are all potential options (granted Patino unlikely until the summer)
Surely zubimendi should be the target, have a few academy forward midfielders incoming.
We may need to sign two midfielders if we're losing partey,jorginho and elneny in the near future we'll be lacking serious depth otherwise.. won't be cheap but I'd love both zubimendi and luiz!.

Can’t say I agree on Arsenal needing midfielders. You don’t want a glut of players in one position on the team sheet. And unless you can pay phenomenal money to a player with no ambition (ozil) you won’t get top players sitting on the bench. Arsenal lack the clinical side of their game. Sell Nketiah and buy a world class striker and let Jesus sweat. That’s my suggestion.

Koopmeiners would be my pick of the litter, but you've nearly sold me on Sancet, feels like he would offer a chance to get a new Xhaka but develop him from a much younger age and get a much higher ceiling. I'd prioritise signing both (or two CM's in general) over a 9 and sell Partey. Partey really needs to be sold (for his own sake as much as the team) he could have an amazing later career in a less physical league with a lower risk of injuries.
We could sign rodri and bernado silva when city get relegated?
Douglass Luis and Koopmeiners are the options imo. Sancet, never heard of him, ill take a look at him also, looks solid

Teun Koopmeiners is the obvious choice here. He is left footed and he has all the qualities needed for that box-to box role. His contract is also expiring in 2025 and I think we could realistically get him in january.

Koopmeiners really good option for Xhaka role but I want a see Mikel Merino or Rabiot in Arsenal.
We don’t need an 8 we already have several options to cover that position like ESR, Vieira, Rice, Trossard and even Jesus can cover there, we desperately need another 6 for cover and a striker who can actually score so we can get rid of Eddie

I think Goretzka is the perfect midfielder that Arsenal must sign. He has got everything that Arsenal need. He is the perfect box-to-box midfielder and he has a goal threat in his arsenal as well. I mean you see what Goretzka can do for Bayern, his goal involvements are superb, I think it’s actually better than Xhaka’s goal involvements so this is the midfielder that Arteta needs to balance the midfield. A box-to-box, a primary playmaker and a number 6 in Declan Rice. He also got some defensive awareness as well since he is now playing as a centre back for Bayern. He might cost a lot but it’s worth it for Arsenal’s system and if Arsenal signed him, he will be better than Xhaka and they will sign one of the best box-to-box midfielder in this generation
Arsenal are struggling with ffp so they need to sell someone to get one of these listed signing so goretzka is a bit of a stretch

As per sofascore, Xhaka averaged 0.5 possession won per game. That’s one in 2 games…. That’s one in 164 minutes (he averaged 82 mins per game)

Havertz’s off the ball work rate has been immense and he’s just beginning to click with those around him. If Arsenal do sign a midfielder, it’ll be a replacement for Thomas Partey. Btw, he would fit right in at Man United, you know. All yours for £25m.
