    In the summer of 2023, Arsenal finally got their man, Declan Rice. Mikel Arteta, Arsenal and the rest of the club hierarchy had been after the former West Ham United captain for many transfer windows.
    A British transfer record secured Rice’s services. But how did the transfer happen?
    Jordan Campbell and Roshane Thomas explain, Craig Silcock illustrates.

    In the realm of English football, one cannot help but observe that certain players (mostly UK born) often receive undue adulation, and their valuations tend to soar beyond reason. Consequently, their careers become burdened with prematurely cultivated lofty expectations, ultimately leading to a lamentable decline before they even reach their prime.

    Time will tell whether Declan Rice is not just another flop its happened to so many players previously that its certainly a huge risk for Arsenal to spend such a transfer fee on the player just because a player starred at one club doesn't necessarily mean that they will do so when they take that next step up with a different club time will tell i guess whether Declan Rice is a hit or miss

    Although Rice at 105m and Havertz at 65m will likely improve Arsenal and also likely signings with intention of quality for 4 years or eg each is England and German International player and proven in that respect, they do seem marginal improvements for a lot of spend. I'm curious why Arteta did not think a player like Jackson was a good signings also?
    Perhaps Rice as pivot in front of defence is sufficient cover for then Havertz/Odegaard + front 3? If so could be quite offensively strong over a season and more depth of the squad. But I'd have liked to see a strong goal-scorer option also for Arsenal as variation.... guess we'll have to see when the season starts.
    The only question is: If Rice why not Caceido which you did not cover?

      Arsenal have spent 3 years acquiring young talents like Jackson, and doing it now wouldn't make them any better in challenging for the title. Rice is different caliber, a unicorn of a player and despite being expensive, he is exactly the kind of signing that has the chance to bring the title to North London.

    • @Unison23
      @Unison23 9 месяцев назад +2

      You mean Nicolas Jackson right? Arsenal didn’t really need a striker this summer, and at the highest level (which is where arsenal are now) it’s hard to make huge improvements. What Rice provides is potentially almost a decade at the top level whilst being world class right now. He’s not someone who’s in his prime at the moment, he fits the model that Arsenal are looking for

      @@Smellybridge99 I did ask 2 questions not 1:
      1. Q: Why not a signing like Jackson? Seems great already for Chelsea.
      2. Q: "Why did the video not cover the offer/bid for Caceido and even a profile comparison of Rice vs Caceido and valuation?
      I did not see an adequate answer of either question from you but hopefully another try and you may have some useful information or someone else might answer both questions to satisfaction of insights yielded. Thank you for trying.

      Signings like Jackson is what Arteta has been doing for two seasons now, Odegaard, Tomiyasu, Gabriel M, Fabio etc. The quality we have is already very high, at this stage it's about having quality depth and missing pieces. There aren't too many players out there that are outrightly better than what we have at a reasonable price point.
