Of course it's safe! My first visit to Siem Reap I stayed right across the street from those street venders and loved it. What surprised me was how many young people came down at night. Great food and the price is right! I was in Cambodia 4 weeks last December and didn't eat western food once. Made every effort to support the small mom&pop shops and try khmer food from north to south. I had a wonderful time on both visits. I'll be back! Thank you for sharing that nice walk about it brought back good memories :)
I prefer the street food and haven't had an issue with it at all. The only time I've gotten sixk at all was from drinking a can of soda. I hadn't had anything sweet for months and when i had it, i was sick all nigth. Haha
Hi, I was hoping you would advise what remedies are available for food poisoning anyway. I thought you had to have only fully cooked food? Salads 🥗 are a no no ? Thanks 😊
A better question might be: Are your cooks & servers healthy & clean? Eating in restaurants in ANY developing country will expose you to a variety of intestinal issues. Many long-term expats in Mexico (where I live) take a pill annually for this reason. And my Mexican doctor NEVER eats in restaurants for exactly that reason.
thank you for sharing! Most of the dishes really look the same as in Thailand, but the variety of food in one place is much greater. it's amazing! I suppose it's a little bit uncomfortable to sit on a small chair too, however, I would like to try. as for me, I rarely have street food, but I don't have any problems after this kind of food.I agree with other comments about ice and water in Asia. some of the sellers use unpurified water to make ice cheaper. All the best to you!
Most cooked street food is safe… I can eat in papaya salad from a Marriott hotel. It’s as far I can do with uncooked vegetables… very yummy Khmer dishes…
After +15 years in se asia,,i can say that i been more sick from westernfood in the turistjoints than the asian food i eat everyday. Rumors spread fast in most places/citys/blocks and if somebody selling "dirty food" they are broke pretty fast and gone. funny to see that foodstands do the same as thailand in the turistcitys using the khmer numbers for locals and normal numbers for foreigners still cheap but if u know the khmer numbers its cheaper =) (both Thailand and Cambodia have pretty similar numbers )
Nice channel and very informative. Through seeing your vlogs I am contemplating retiring in Siem Reap as opposed to Thailand. Thanks for making a difference.
I read someone else’s comment about dual pricing! I didn’t notice the pricing I guess. What’s the difference on average from what tourists and locals pay?
Depends on where you are and what you are doing. For example, a pass to go to Kulan Mountain will cost $20, but if a Khmer buys it for you it will cost $13. In the markets, the difference is so small and it won't break your bank.
Filipino food has always improved my guts. I have IBS, Colitis, and had one foot of colon removed in the US. Most every food in US makes me sick. Philippines food I am basically cured of my ailments after four days in Philippines.
Man, I love those pork sticks! I always look for those when I walk by those vendors. And I've never had a problem with the street food here. Love the pickled salad they give you with those pork sticks too.
Thank you so much for the video. You mentioned that you did get sick but not from the food from the street vendors. What food did make you sick? I ask because I'm considering retiring there but getting sick from the food there is a concern for me. Thanks
Well, Mark, I will be honest with you. You will get sick (icky toilet times) a few times when you first get here. Everyone does. It may not be in the first week or two, but you will. Just about everyone will say the same. You just need to get used to the different modes of cooking the oils, etc. I got food poisoning from eating Au gratin potatoes at an Italian restaurant. Thanks for watching the video !!
Another great video Brah. I am luvin this channel, do you hear me lad…..luvin it 😎 I would love to buy you some dinner and have a game of chess next time I’m in town 🙏
Many years ago in Lima, I found that street vendors would make me sick about half of the time. But the more I experimented, the more I found that it depended on the food. Cooked? Probably gonna be okay. Salad? It depends. I'm in Ecuador as we speak and find that street vendors are safe. I look forward to exploring Cambodia. Thanks for sharing.
Yes, you have to be careful of things that your body is not used to such as raw foods like shrimp, crab, snails etc... Thanks for watching the video !!!
In general, in the evening, the locals which consist of workers and etc tend to gather around the food stall along the waterfront whereas many of the tourist can be found just a few blocks away within the main street. I usually recommend eating with the locals just because: 1. The food price is usually cheaper if not much cheaper than the tourist area. 2. There is enough variety to keep you happy 3. The view at night especially along the waterfront is a fun and not as loud as the tourist area with its music blaring away. 4. There is a bar located along the waterway next to one of the bridge called, "The Town Bar". Really fun place to grab a drink and meet women both foreign and locally. I never had any issues with the food and I even bought food inside their market with the vegetables, fish and etc. I even bought 10lbs of freshly skinned frogs to my hostel to have them fried it up for me. Love it and love the hospitality of the people.
Most cooked street food are safe. It's the drink with ice that t am concern... Appreciate you put your life On the line for this video... Courageous in Asia is in the house or on this street...
I tended to eat my Breakfast at a Khmer restaurant called Khmer Taste; that was popular and really cheap. Lunch was at the self serve type Khymer places, of which i found 2 good ones. Dinner was at the places shown in the Video, or some cheap restaurant.
You’re the only person who took videos of the food price list and menu and I’m thankful for that. I’m trying to get a rough idea of how much the street food would be in Cambodia, is it similar to Thailand or Indonesia. I’ve watched several Siem reap travel vlogs and nobody zoom in the price list and menu. Keep up the good work!
You are so welcome! I've never compared prices in different countries. Sorry, not a foodie but I can tell you this, Cambodian food and Thai food are very much the same with the difference being Thai food is spicier, and Khmer food is sweeter. Thanks for watching the videos !!!
Food stands just doesn’t exist today since the old times streets foods are among the favorites eating grab decent local prices ! Cambodia foods are cooked with love. Believe it or not I visit Cambodia I’ll eats fruits snacks daily Phnom Penh noodles ,street vendors love Goyava pickles spices I never got sick . Mostly all of Asia love street food vendors even Japan , South Korea they are the masterpieces in street food vendors 🥰🙏🪷🇰🇭
The first thing I'm doing when I get back is finding the first place I can that has bai sach chrouk (pork and rice) and scarfing it down. I love the street food in Siem Reap. What I like about street food is it doesn't have time to go bad whereas restaurants often keep stuff in fridges for far longer than they should.
Wow never see huge food vendors. Did they have sheep or goat meat. Or you have to buy from market and cook it at home? Thanks brother great video from Dallas tx.
Mostly safe a year ago we spent one month in Cambodia ate a lot of street food there were 5 of us got sick one time by eat at the stall in night market in Siem Reap other than that all good.
I got sick from eating an American food in Los Angeles, and Washington State. Plus, they were a lot more expensive, instead of $3.00. I paid $30.00 to fill up. In San Pedro and Garment District, they were more filthy with infested drug users.
I hear ya !! As the pinned comment said, if a food stall has bad food, word gets around fast and no one will go there. The best street stall is the one with many locals lining up to get food. Thanks for watching !!
Whether it is safe or not, it is what people can afford. If you don't like street food, go eat in a restaurant; don't judge it as unsafe. Every country has street food vendors.
I ate at meny food stalls and even ate the bizarre items , as in small fried frogs, scorpions and such. But I wouldn't touch those fresh water blood clams that they set in the sun all day, even Andrew Zimmerman wouldn't cross THAT line !!!

These food joints wouldn’t last a week if they were unsafe. The locals would hound them out
That is so true. Thanks for watching !!
Hi, I was hoping you would advise what remedies are available for food poisoning anyway. I thought you had to have only fully cooked food? Salads 🥗 are a no no ? Thanks 😊
That is what I recommend. Not being used to raw foods like shrimp and prawns can give you a bit of trouble.
Thanks for watching !!

Why is the pricing in U.S. dollars? That many Americans there?
There is a dual monetary system in Cambodia. Both US Dollar and Cambodian Riel.

With the competition there, bad vendors last minutes. The locals quickly eliminate any unsafe food vendors, so no fear.
