Amazing place, and some great B roll. Been there three times and always magical. First time in 2001 and it was really in a "raw" state, and very few visitors. The was pre tomb raider days and it was not yet part of the tourist circuit. Its great to see that over the years they are taking steps to protect and preserve this valuable piece of history and culture. The people of Cambodia are benefiting greatly from it and paying a decent fee is supporting not only the history but also providing economic benefit. Think for a minute that people pay way more than that to go to disneyland, to see fake stuff. LOL.
👏👏👏 great analogy to put things into perspective. I’ve heard more people complain about the ticket fees to the Angkor archeological park than to Disney world. It takes a village to maintain the temples.
That's a really great comparison you made to Disneyland. Phrased that way, it really makes amusement parks (that are much more popular than Angkor Wat) seem so silly and frivolous.
I've been there once and it is truly worth visiting. Those are huge and amazing. Couldn't imagine how people at that time could build these kinds of structures.
Angkor is what started my love affair with SE Asia, and kicked off my travels through the region. It's a truly magical place. The crowd you experienced was actually tiny; it's usually way, way more crowded (especially with large Chinese tour buses, picture the typical throng as 5-6 times larger). You guys should definitely feel blessed! I cannot wait until I get to go back.
This is very true! We looked at some pre-Covid videos of Angkor Wat and it was packed! Thousands of people at sunrise. Makes that tiny little crowd of 50 people seem so insignificant 😂
Ahhh!! such a refreshing vid!! Thank you for showcasing this amazing heritage that somehow for whatever ridiculous reason is still highly, annoyingly underrated. Even as a local who basically visited, lived, learned, and basically memorized all the fascinating facts for the national exam. I still am once in a while in a daze of just how majestic Angkor Wat is. It's one thing realizing that it is very cool and another level of mental stimulation when you actually sit down and try to grasp the image of how it came about. Truly one of my proudest things as a Cambodian
Great video you two. I remember being there 12 years ago and thinking the same as you guys " there's no way their gonna let people walk around this for much longer!" Love your work thanks so much.
Did you guys check out the bas reliefs carving along the walls at Angkor Wat? It's the major highlight there. Very amazing and impressive . I was there in the late 90s, there were no rails and modern stairs leading up to the top back then. It wase quite steep. It was in its original state. Well, enjoy the rest of the trip. Oh, don't forget to check out the beaches in the southern part near the Sihanouville. Koh Rong Samloeum. Beautiful white sand and clear water. Not overcrowded and spoiled yet. Etc...
Fantastic!! We just came back from Ayutthaya and will be in Angkor Wat hopefully in 2 months. Looks amazing and is number 1 on my bucket list for the last 5 years.
Love how excited you both were. I left Cambodia when I was 11 years old due to wars. Went back the first time when I was 31 years old, since then I had been back 6 times. Every time I’m still captivated by the majestic of Angkor Temples. Can’t wait to be back in June.

I love how open hearted you guys are to all these new experiences and find so much to delight in, whether it's the temple steps worn away by thousands of years of feet or the unexpected pleasure of a Cambodian burrito! Makes these videos a joy to watch. You got such beautiful footage here too. Can't believe you wore jeans though, you must have been boiling!
That's really nice of you to say, thank you 😊 It was so hot that day! It's the only leg-covering option we had that day, so that's what we ended up with 😅
I’m glad you like the temples in Cambodia. I recommend you hire a tour guide, he/she knows where to take you and explain the history of the Cambodian culture. Inside Angkor wat, there’s an area where you can see four of you when you take a picture. I don’t remember where it is. But they know. There’s a lot more temples for you to see, that’s not all we have. I really enjoyed your videos of Cambodia. Be safe and have fun! Thank you for visiting the kingdom of Cambodia!
Here one little fact about Ta prom: Yes they try to keep it not to fall but one cool thing about this temple is that they are the combination of nature and structure stay and grow together intertwine create and strong connection between the two by one keeping the other one strong and stay still that is why there tree growing over the temple everywhere (excuse my english)
Thank you for your insight, and your English is excellent! It is very impressive how the buildings and the trees seem to intermingle with each other and coexist. Our favorite temple that day 🙂
Very early in Angkor, its so amazing to watch the sun is up..."Ta Prohm", better than Angkor and Bayon... I have another suggestion to you guys that you must visit "Borobudur". But you must wake up around 04:00 am to visit there like many other touristic places...
Thanks for sharing your experience, and big thank for your respect to our cultural heritage! Kudo to you both for calling out on those nasty carvings and markings by those inconsiderate people. Have an awesome time in Cambodia!
My parents said that Angkor Wat back in the 1930’s one word to describe was magical and indescribable. And it’s still is to me, been there a few times myself. Hearing people describe it, doesn’t do it justice till you there physically experiencing it yourself.
Back in 2001 there were no wood steps, I climbed the real stones, it was nerve wrecking, there were no hand rails, as you can it was pretty steep. I am hoping to move here in a few years, I wanted to live near the temples before my departure from this planet. 🙏
I see why that last temple inspired the Tomb Raider movies, I'd love to see it! I can't believe you were already that hot at Angkor Wat in the morning, when you're used to Thailand weather. I looked it up online and the humidity in the Siem Reap area is ~10% higher than Chiang Mai, so that must be the difference. 🥵
You were brave going up the pyramid as my tour guide told me a couple of tourists have fell and been killed also there wasn't a visitor center then and i also thought that Ta Prohm was more atmospheric and my favorite.

Oh definitely up there for us as well. Probably tied with the Acropolis in Athens.
