  • - Ba Gua Zhang is literally translated as Eight Trigram Palm.
    - This style is one of the three Nei Jia Quan or internal styles of China.
The other two styles are Xing Yi Quan and Taiji Quan.
    - As with Xing Yi and Taiji, the practice of Bagua generates Qi (internal energy) for both health and combat purposes.
    - Baguazhang uses palm techniques exclusively, and this is reflected in the name, Eight Trigram Palm.
    - This makes Bagua distinct from Xing Yi and Taiji styles, both of which incorporate fist techniques.

I think it is liang style baguazhang , you can see some scene of the movement that fight by linear way so that is the significant of 64 palms in liang style.

I am ignorant, and at first thought Ba Gua, but then saw no, too linear. They say it was Xing Yi

@@greywolf8060don't get caught up too much in the dogma of "modern" TCMA. Yes there are 3 recognized branches of internal martial arts, but Bagua is the youngest of those 3, and all of the families have their own versions of it.
Some had a Xingyi Influence because they were Xingyi masters prior to training Bagua. None of them are wrong. Doing Hai Chuan (recognized founder of Baguazhang) tailored his art to each of his students accordingly: for example, Yin Fu was more of a striking specialist with his Shaolin background, so his art focuses more on striking in the Yin Style (that doesn't mean that art is missing take downs or submissions anymore than a grappling art is devoid of any striking training either, however) whereas Cheng Ting Hua specialized in Chinese Wrestling, so his art is more spiraling and seeks to close the distance and take the back for take downs and/or submissions.
When it comes to Bagua, it's my experience and opinion in my training and research, that the art should be seen as a "quality of martial art" rather than a "specific" martial art, because it blends many different elements of existing martial arts and encourages tailoring it to one's strengths, and then mapping it against The I Ching philosophy. It aims to merge Philosophy and a level of refinement to already acquired skills (back when it was being developed originally at least), versus being intended to be something learned from scratch as the end all be all of Martial Arts.
If I were to put this in modern terms, keeping consistent with the times, imagine two branches of Bagua that continued to evolve prior to the Boxer Rebellion in China, expanding worldwide and encouraged to grow and evolve...
Well, you might have branches of Bagua that had flavors of Muy Thai, Boxing and Kickboxing, as well as Judo, Catch Wrestling and Jujitsu.
It's not the techniques that make it bagua (beyond the first 3 palm changes at least) so much as the philosophy and their inclusion into the monastic Circle Walking meditation, which was not likely intended to have martial applications, and was more likley adopted into the martial practice.
Today, I truly feel like if someone merged modern Muy Thai with Judo/Jiu-jitsu into a Bagua format, it would be just as valid, if not more practical since the training is really adapting those modern and proven effective arts into something that focuses inward (self reflecting through the movements) and adopting the Bagua philosophy. That was pretty much it if you research it all (caveat being that the "that's pretty much it" is a WHOLE LOT OF WORK to justify it as a complete Martial Art, depending on what one prescribes to as a Martial Art definition)
