Blakes just got that gift of presenting. A fair few would make this feel condescending to us feeble noobs but he's got me wanting to go out and improve.
And anyone thinking this is just stupid is either riding some lame ass trails or on the road to a world of pain. I can vouch for the benefits of something as simple and stupid as training myself riding on curbs and doing track stands every chance I get - falling off woodwork out in the middle of nowhere sucks and hurts like hell.
A great video. Should help me heaps. I'm now 66 bought a hardtail a couple of years ago. Still trying to do track stands, bunny hops, Manual all the things I use to do back when I was about 10yrs old before MTB were invented. I'll keep watching these vids and I'm sure I'll get there.
Tip of the hat to you, I started in late 50's and can't get enough. What I didn't realize was that balance skills disappear if you don't use them. Playing catch-up now but still trying to balance a wheelie, something I never could do even in my teens and damned if I'm not going to get it, soon!
4:07 it almost looks like he has a cigarette in his hand, but it's just the white text on his glove. At first, I was thinking "Wow, Europeans can smoke while doing anything"
Excellent challenges, going to use some of these in my coaching sessions. Another we do is Cycle Jenga, similar to the bottle pickup/put down. We have a giant Jenga sets, and the kids practice taking a block off the top of one tower, and neatly placing it on another.
amazing once again the content just blows you away i spend hours watching this channel learning gasping laughing soaking it all up best channel on the net

awesome video! great to have these very simple exercise videos, i ve been doing a lot of similar stuff during the winter. far more enjoyable and effective than going out on some trashed muddy trails, especially when you don t have much time and it s dark and cold. thanks blake
These are drills we try with the kids i coach. I learned something new though. The stability drill is done at an angle on a climb. Liked that. Ty for the video.
We have to do that bottle pick up at some xc races in Holland with a high saddle and both feet on, I can even touch the ground. At that races we also have to do bunny hops, track stands and all that kind off stuff, also a whole lap with the front wheel out and the rear wheel inside, it's really much fun
I've done the slalom drill several times. It's a great drill. I also try going down a very steep bank as slow as possible and not skid and only use the rear brake. Still practicing on my track stand skills, I'm not that good at it. Great video.
Creative drills are never weird. I like cookie cutter rounds shooting for a perfect circle by the front wheel. Rocking forward and back is good during the track stand.
@blake would like to see another jump video, but more specifically, how to transfer the bike to land at a different angle from the lift jump. You did one on your first GMBN introduction video leading the line. You were leaning to the left then you hit the jump and landed leaning to the right. I seem to struggle to get the bike to go along with me as I lean back over in the transfer. Thanks for all the help !

I really like these short focused specific skill videos. Thanks. I mostly just want to be a better rider, and not do anything worthy of a RUclips video (neither applause nor cringing). I especially like the 5 street skills. I don't think I'll be hoping up two feet...but one foot? I can think of situations where this could be a very useful skill.
I might be getting a canyon neuron al 5.0 would it be suitable for racing. If not what would you recommend on a budget for amateur. Thanks love the channel
I found that i train my balance better when i actualy have to balance.Like when u ride where there are alot of people and some times u have to stop and stuff like that.If there is no actual need to try and balance i have realy hard time doing it.
#askGMBN Blake, I couldn’t help but notice is that a one piece bar and stem on your rig? It’s looks sweet!! I have seen them used on road bikes, didn’t think it would trickle into MTB! Good tips and great vids 👍
Dude these are great ideas for practice. First I need to track stand. It is the very first skill I am learning then to manual. Do you think that is a good way to start?
As soon as it warms up I’ll be out in the street practicing these and embarrassing my daughter! (She hates it coz the neighbors kids skate/ride in the street!!) tee hee hee

Love Blake's videos he's funny as hell! Yet explains everything crystal clear.
Wonderful tips, even for a 61 yr old newbie like myself. Will be extremely difficult, but I’ll give it a go.

Best tip for trackstands is to do them at every traffic light you cross.
Good tip. But there's no traffic lights in my forest!
Theres gonna be sooooo many cars getting scratched next time I'm at traffic lights 😂
Or every intersection you encounter

Good stuff - I have gotten the looks in the parking lot stretching out while balancing - all good

Great video, how about a video on how to balance by those small bunny hops, and bunny hopping from a wheely.
So going to try a couple if these with my friends after a ride in the lot.
Ha! Super impressed and highly entertained.

Nice riding shorts Blake
THAT is a good challenging exercise. thx.
Good stuff here. How well we ride slow will determine how well we ride in general. Slow is, in my opinion, the key to riding well.
I love you GMBN!
I love this guy!!!
Just awesome, thanks!
This is such a good and helpful vid!!! THANKS!

6:12 ohhh ok... that's why he doesn't has his friends arround haha... the things you do to teach us, Blake!! :))
Feels like i'm being taught how to ride a bike from scratch lol, good skills :)
One of the under-appreciated scenes in "Breaking Away" is when Dave picks up that girl's book from off the ground before he chases her down.

I mean Blake's just a bit of a god! Also how is he getting on with the one piece bar and stem- turning into a bit of a roadie now is he!
Great video- thanks
Glad it was helpful!
with the Drought in Cape Town it hurt watching Black throw all that water out!
Love it.
Very Nice mate, I'm trying to improve my skills, this video is very nice
I love this video. Its very challenging on my xc bike and even harder on my E bike. I'm outta here to practice.
Good luck!

UNICYCLE!!
When leaning towards the front wheel go further forward. Try to touch the tire with the visor of your helmet. May the balance be with you.

His full saddle height is waay lower than mine. But i am made out of legs. Just measured it 42" from the ground.
Was only yesterday i was practicing trackstands 🤙🏼
hey blake,to make the bottle pick up harder, use doddys bike, hehe. nice one, dude
Hi Blake, whats your feedback on riding 27.5 versus 29er. im trying to get a new MTB. thanks
..if i try this,do i need to eat a Balance diet?..
Topsey kretts Ha Ha Ha I like it 😂😂😂.
hehe...
hahaha Yeah nothing to heavy
yeah, and no alcohol
i think that one totally belongs to Martin he is the Master of balance after all
Can somebody tell be what handle bar is that? And its fix with the stem?
Homework or GMBN? Hmmm 🤔
I think it’s an obvious answer😂
Duncan Burnside making that decision right now
Weeeeell, I would say GMBN and then Homework. But if the dads are reading this then, I say homework and then GMBN.
Unless dads watch GMBN and kids have to do their homework first.
Blake has circus-freak like balance.
Basic is the name of the game
As soon as it warms up I’ll be out in the street practicing these and embarrassing my daughter! (She hates it coz the neighbors kids skate/ride in the street!!) tee hee hee
if you want to learn nohanded track stand.. play cycle ball
By the way: still waiting for the GMBN vs GCN vs GTN Cycleball tournament
Geniusssss
Nice challenges, but can you do this cliped in?
Can you please go out on the trails with a giant aluxx 6000 black and white
why does the spark and trance have a similar frame?
How your handlebars are connected to stem?
I can track stand without moving for 38 minutes, I could have gone longer but it just got boring.
Did anyone else notice his handle bars had a stem built in?! Someone reply and tell me what those are called!
Syncros Hixon iC SL Carbon
Only issue is, if you don't like it would can't change it... So I recommend finding what you like first.
I stared at his bars the entire vid wondering this very same thing.
I used the car park for my balancing skills as Blake suggested but it didn’t work. Car drivers were unhappy.😂
please tell what bar is that???
