That’s what I’m saying. *Malone is running laps around Ham and it’s insane.* He STRATEGICALLY has Aaron Gordon in the dunkers spot and Ham refuses to counter it in any type of way. Could easily negate many boards and 2nd chance opportunities while simultaneously creating your own, if you play Hayes + AD and at the same time. Guarantee Coach Pop/Spo would do something different. He’ll play 3 guards, have 20% shooters in the corners, but won’t play BIG.
The reason we can't beat the Nuggets this year, is the same reason why we couldn't beat the Nuggets last year. No legitimate big to bang with Jokic. That would free up AD and let him be a help defender instead of the guy banging against a guy that outweighs him by 30 pounds. The last time the Lakers beat the Nuggets in the playoffs, was when Dwight got put in on Jokic to bang against Jokic. Jokic is going to be the final boss in the western conference for years to come. It's going to be interesting to see how long it takes for teams to realize that having a big guy on your roster to guard other big guys is a good thing.

@@mike_3613do you understand how NBA basketball works? This isn’t playground ball. The game is highly strategic. Malone is running circles around Ham. 3pt shooting should’ve been our advantage.
Ham is refusing to play another true big which forces either AD to guard Jokic or Bron/Rui to guard him. Jokic would cook Bron/Rui because they’re small forwards and putting AD on Jokic leaves AD on the perimeter.
Malone has then placed Gordon in the dunker spot which forces Bron/Rui to become your rim protectors since AD is on the perimeter.
All year guards have been killing the Lakers because DLo/Austin back court can’t defend. With no AD at the rim their guards are getting downhill and forcing Bron/Rui to provide aid since they’re the “rim protectors now”. Those two are SFs and aren’t lengthy and big like true centers are. They can’t recover and cover as much ground. This is leading to Gordon being open.
The FOs personnel decisions are killing this team and Ham is only making things worse. This is why AD called him out. In 2020 they won because they had 2 bigs on the court. One to pester Jokic and the other to protect the rim. Rui/Bron aren’t big men.

Its not just Dlo, its the entire team and the coach.
But that's their biggest problem. They have no trades any team wants, no picks for the future, and they'll be stuck with a old man. The Lakers won't recover from this for years.
I just don't know why it's so hard to replicate the team they had for their last championship. Defensive team, I don't want to hear anything say more offensive, the search for has cause the Lakers to not even be a top 4 team in their conference. Couple with coach who can sometimes make a good game plan but can't make adjustments to save his life!!

This team doesn't have any dogs on it. Nobody on this team is pissed off, playing physical or taking control in the huddle. You can't have a team of quiet guys and expect to win it all. A team needs at least one guy with some fire in his chest.

Actually, things went downhill when they let Ty Lue go, not to mention KCP and Caruso. They had a "team" when they won in the bubble, a defensive one at that, and since then, they've been a mixed bag of nuts, largely injured and mismanaged.
That's what I've been saying. They should have kept the bubble team that won the championship. I guarantee they would have won back-to-back championship had they kept the core team.
2020 Lakers: Rondo- defender, KCP- defender, D. Howard- defender. Coach Frank Vogal- Offensive Coach
2024 Lakers: Russel- playmaker, A.R- shot creator. And no pure defensive center on roster.

This roster was built with Legos! The front office is the problem. The Lakers front office is full of Agents, Pin ups & family friend's. No true basketball minds!

If Lebron played for the Lakers next season for free they still wouldn’t have much cap space, that’s the way forming teams work, once you find a consistent core you work within the confines of the rules to form your overall team. Lebron is not a vet minimum player and taking that kind of pay cut sets a bad precedent for the league.

I've rooted for D'Lo since he was drafted, I was happy to see him back on the Lakers, and I really wanted to see him succeed in the playoffs, but both sides end up losing in this current situation D'Lo & Lakers organization. I wish him the best wherever he goes, but I really thought it'd be different this year.

Neither team just grew their teams through drafting lol outside of Steph, Klay and Draymond, the rest of GS’s core were through trades and free agency. Nuggets traded for Gordan and KCP. Relying and hoping on the draft (especially with this front office) is the best way to stay stagnant within the league.

I would caution us all Laker fans that finding a shooter like DR is hard in the NBA and we all just have to appreciate what he brings to the team and not just get rid of him when he plays bad. Trevor, you did not mention one thing that is key. How much has his performance impacted what he would get in the off-season in free agency if he opts out. He has a reputation of being MIA in the post season and you can say that is historically. Lots of players have gotten paid for performing in a Lakers uni. (e.g. Monk). But there is the opposite effect. Dlo might not have a choice but to opt in because no one will give him anything close to 19 mil a year. So, if he cares more about money more than having the power to decide where to go, that choice might already be made. If not, the same thing might happen to him that happened to Dennis Shroeder.
I think you run it back and keep the core together and DLO is a big part of winning basketball with the Lakers
