Taking on a puppy scammer

- Опубликовано: 31 июл 2024
- We decided to change it up a bit this time and show a puppy scam. This is one of the most heart-wrenching scams, because someone thinks they are getting a new member of their family, but instead they're out potentially thousands.
Watch as we go through a puppy scam and point out red flags. The call itself starts around 3:03.
As always, thanks for watching and please report any scams to our BBB Scam Tracker here: www.bbb.org/scamtracker/
I think you woke him up. The time zone in Nigeria is not the same as in Pennsylvania!
Puppy scams been going ages. I know of a woman that got scammed last week she paid online then travelled 6 hours to a fake address to pick puppy up and obviously it was fake. She was heartbroken
Wow ! I've never encountered a puppy scam. I tend to stick with the well known IRS, CRA and Social security scams.....
Beware of Parrot scams as well...
Guys, she’s back 😍😍😍
After hearing him speak I was expecting him to inform her that the IRS had a warrant for her arrest.
I used to run a dog rescue for eleven years. A legit breeder or puppy seller will never ask you to send money in advance. The seller/breeder will want you to physically go and see the puppies in person. They will normally require a deposit but there is and should always be a contract involved between the seller and the buyer.
Brian MacPherson? good lord Pennsylvania Scottish accents are so thick.
Pennsylvania Scottish by way of Nigeria.
Or by way of India lol
I Am Really Lucky Now
Thanks Julie, you give BBB a good name:) you show how your company helps real people with all these scammers!
Thanks Alley Oop!
Thanks for sharing the walk-through and subsequently, some of the indicators that may present themselves when facing this type of scam in. It is the work of people like you that help to make a positive difference in the community. Great work, Julie!
This is good to pass it on.
Thanks as always for watching!
Adopt from a local shelter Not only can you see the puppy and play with him first, but you can generally understand what they people there are saying.
Adopt, don't shop
@@wickedmuffin76 it really matters what your doing with the dog if want a show/working it’s a good idea to shop
Yeah. Those French bulldogs in the suburbs def be out there herding cattle.

Hi Julie I'm a new subscriber and I love how you scam the scammers and you got a beautiful personality and a smile to go along with it can't wait for more new videos
So calm and patience to the max! Thank you millions for what you do :)
This is such a great resource put out by a state BBB!
Hi Julie and team, another great video. There is so any different types of scams all over the internet, it is becoming so scary to make any online purchase these days as it is hard to know what is real or fake anymore. Keep up the great work, your friends for Canada.
As always, thanks Craig!
I was legit about to order a french bulldog puppy offline today.... I messaged 2 separate sites and got the same exact email with the same spelling mistakes as well. the email addresses were different but they were super generic names like “John Smith” and “Jerry King” - I called them out asking more details and they immediately got defensive and calling me names. Thank you for this video, it shows me never to buy a puppy online & others shouldn’t either!
Great job on video and THANKS for not only a great video, but one to help others.. /sing your praises...
Love the red flag prop!
I was looking at an online Puppy Place earlier today turns out it was a scam be careful people.
Get em girl! These types of scams are becoming more and more popular. I hope the scammer gets locked up.
I could tell immediately they were scammers. The Nigerian accent is why. They will also advertise in the Thrifty Nickel selling puppies for cheap. They will post pics of puppies taken from breeders and use them. You can always take the pic and do a reverse image search. It will show you the sites that the pic was taken from. They will advertise in your city but when you inquire they say they are located states away. In doing that, they will charge a really high fee for shipping. It's all a scam.
I want a puppy!!! Thanks Julie for another great video. You're my favorite celebrity on the RUclipss. You're so beautiful!!!
I want all the puppies

I've never heard of these puppy scams before.
This type of scam is one of the most popular in the UK.
I just hope real puppies aren’t involved in this scam…
@@rainbowsandlove Probably are. These scammers have absolutely no shame in how far they will go to dupe people out of their money.
@@purplefish0947 am absolutely horrified that people would actually use animals as bartering chips, etc, but I’m not naive to the fact, and I hope it comes back on them tenfold. It’s beyond disgusting…
Zelle will not reverse the transaction. It's your responsibility to make sure you're sending to someone you know. Shocker... the scammer was lying about that.
When are you going to do.more videos.. you are so great at them and love how you explain the scans.. please do more
I was scammed by the exact same person! It’s so hard to believe breeders.
Aww I’m so sorry that happened to you, that’s awful in so many ways
Well the guy on the phone sure didn't sound like the people in the pictures. Also, being located now in Pennsylvania, but keeping the same Oklahoma number???
Wow, I tried to contact a person giving out puppies to me for free on Craglist and asked me if I would pay for pet's shipping from Los Angeles, CA since he/she was relocated to LA. I said "no" and I couldn't move on without meeting puppies first. Please be cautious about pet scammers!
I ended up talking to a puppy scammer several months ago. I got their address (undoubtedly fake) and told them I definitely wanted a puppy, but rather than wire them the money I'd DRIVE OVER AND PICK IT UP! And I'd be bringing CASH instead of a wire transfer!
"Oh, NO, ma'am! No no nno NONONO!! We can't do dat! You have to *wire us da moneys* and we ship da poopy to you house!"
Much better for the "poopy" if I come pick it up. And I'll have cash (sure, I will) with me.
Much disagreement. "You no pick it up, m'am. You wire us da moneys and we ship!"
I have CAAAASH! Don't you want CAAAASH???
Of course, they DID want that lovely cash, but they did NOT want me coming by... especially as they're somewhere in India and there's no puppy.
I wasted 35 minutes of the scammer's time, so it wasn't a total loss.
In other news, anyone who pays 10k for a dog is a fool who is still being scammed.
But what if the dog is really cute?
Whitest family ever in picture... Thick as mud African accent answers phone. Sounds like it matches up lol.
"Ohhh... that is not MY name on the website Contact page. McPherson is my brother's name." LOL!! 😂 😂
You obviously are ignorant to the fact that there are south Africans 🙄
@@SuperSisterSara You're obviously ignorant to the fact that Afrikaners don't sound anything like that.
@@SuperSisterSara You're ignorant enough to acknowledge that in most cases you can tell if there's a white or a black person speaking...
Scammers got a hold of my address and for 2 -3 years now I’ve had people show up looking to pick up their puppy. At least once a month. It frustrating as hell. Local police won’t do anything.
Very good video, i have to be careful. TBH im tempting in affordable puppy can't imagine how broken heart to get scam like this
I got scammed three times. What a sucker for a cute face! The puppies on their website never age and can be found on several other websites. I’m now an expert on scammers. I have the cutest puppy from a reputable breeder. 🐾
3 times???
@@stephenguffey7225 At least I ended up with the most adorable little boy. He’s such a ham that he excepts everyone to stop and pet him and take his picture. My husband has to take for walks in Montecito before sun up to avoid the Paparazzi! Spoiled ✨🐾

They are oh-so resourceful. There is a new tech-scam similar to the MS windows scammers - targeting Satellite tv subscribers - Dish, DirectTv. They are trying tp get the receiver eid number - not sure what the the scam is. Anyway, excellent video - keep it going!
The most prolific and biggest scam going at the moment is with reborn dolls. Its huge selling plastic dolls for 1000s
I fell for one of these puppy scams and lost the money instantly via a Zelle transaction. I followed online advise and contacted Google who had sold the website name. Within a few days the website was gone along with my money. A short time later I found the website again under a different name (still with Google) and minor changes to verbiage but with all the same cute puppy pictures, even the puppy I supposedly purchased. I hope everyone considering this route to purchase a puppy watches your video. Thank you for posting this.
So sorry to hear that you fell victim to this scam. It really is one of the more tricky and heartbreaking ones out there. If you want to, you can report the scam and your experience here to help us warn others: www.bbb.org/scamtracker/wisconsin
I am ukrainian living in Belgium and once i tryed to buy a kitten from internet and i came across such scammers, it was funny what a great story they told me to trick me and that i should send them money and receive a cat with a post! So stupid, how can anyone believe this bs? Othertime i was considering to buy a cat in Ukraine because its cheaper there and also someone tryed to scam me, i asked the lady to send me her name and i was able to find her name on internet that she already scammed people before! Please be aware of this stuff!
Since they have the puppies right there, surely they'd have no trouble sending a picture of the puppy next to a PA newspaper or something else specific. I bet they'd have come up with another excuse.
Notice that there are no pics of the parents? Another red flag.
Great to see a puppy scam. I had that happen to me, I recognized scam but led them on goose chase for two days. Finally I told them I mailed them a check to the location they said they were affiliated to... immediately got a phone call,,, NO NO NO! I told you gift card! but before that I had them going. I said , would you give me a discount on all three pups? I hate to separate them!
Just dealt with this in reference to kittens. 405 area code Oklahoma too and foreign person on the other end. Did reverse number lookup and exact number search and found lots of scam sites for pets dogs and cats breeder sites all different, but same number. So glad we didn't fall for this. Watch out.
Great informative video.. looking for a maltese puppy and I can't find anything in Los Angels Are. Please tell me where should I look .thank you
You're way too nice to these creeps!
Best to call the AKC hotline in your state and ask about a breed you are interested in. Talk directly to a breeder. You will NOT be sold a puppy outright, you need to convince breeder that you are an experienced and knowledgable breed owner and they put you on waiting list. Long wait. AKC breeders keep best pups for self for breeding, do not let them go before 3 months of age or older. This is when their excellent confirmation shows. Then the pups left go to first on breeder's list of well known customers. Sometimes there is only one or two pups in litter so wait is long. Breeders keep their breeding stock shown professionally in AKC dog show, breed a girl at two yrs old, then four and the female is fixed and sold to interested parties on another list. Older pups are often keep if they have show promise, but then when another good prospect is born is sold for pet. I buy my dogs from same breeder, for 30 years and adopted ex show dogs of varied ages, and they are excellent, be true to bred. Breeder and follows the adoption thru and is always there to answer questions. If you can not keep the pup or dog, good breeder takes it back and places with good family.
So first problem is lack of AKC certification for kennel, solid proof breeder produces good solid stock with no inherited weakness, etc etc. Buying an AKC dog, pet quality runs thousands of $$$$$. But same breeder will place a one year old dog or 5 yr old dog with a good family for just hundreds. All 12 of my dogs were this type of sale thru an AKC breeder. All dogs lived with her or his family, might have have advanced training for the ring and were excellent dogs. Compare to little puppy mill Lacy, who might have any physical problems that this breed has. If owner tries to call, they will not give owner the time of day. These people are pumping out dogs to satisfy a market and do not worry about health. Puppy mills with no regulation.
You should do a reverse image search on the pictures especially of the people.
Happy International Womens day to all anti-scammers!☺
mahalo!
Yeah right.
Your good, I don't know how you can understand these guys.
Great job 👍
Thank you!
Good job B.B.B.
The fact that I got scammed 800 a few months ago from trying to buy a Pembroke welsh corgi and this now pops up on my recommendation is crazy.
You can get your money recovered with the help of hacksting on IG, he recovered my scammed money and scammer arrested
Never buy from a puppy mill...just go to a shelter with a tennis ball and you’ll find a friend for life!
I saw a ad for a free English bulldog and all I had to do was pay her gas to deliver it two states over ahead of time. This was all done over messenger on Facebook. I told her I would pay her a couple hundred dollars if she would just meet me with the puppy (no ahead of time payment). She said ok give me your address and I said I wasn’t comfortable with that, I would meet her at my husbands office in town. She answered back ok where is his office. I gave her the address and told her it would be easy to fine the office because it had a big sign saying state office of probation and parole. I never heard another peep out of her, lol. My husband said don’t give out my office address, I said what, are you afraid a criminal will show up, I’ve met murderers on parole in his office.
My husband and I just had a scammer, it was so real. She said she was moving to Florida and her husband got a lease that didn't allow dogs, he didn't tell her. Then I asked if my niece who lived nearby could check in on the dog and she said the family was working on a brother's wedding and later that week would be fine. I told her we would drive over in a couple of days and pay her then so she didn't ask for any upfront money or offer to meet us anywhere. She did provide an address, which turned out to be a middle-class home per google maps, and the owner not too sure of the title owner, wasn't a name I expected to see. So red flags are up. I never got a name other than Angie. Then I asked for more pictures and received them, then I asked for the Vet she was seen and treated by so we could transfer her record, per our vet's advice. at that point, everything stopped. So my advice is to also ask for the vet's information for record transfer or references. Luckily we didn't travel the 6 hours to find out we were scammed.
I'm from Pennsylvania and we don't sound like this!!! ADOPT DON"T SHOP...sorry I couldn't help myself
I got my french bulldog puppy from a breeder in Alabama for 2,500$ + 200 for travel and he drove to my house in GA and dropped him off with his akc papers and everything. HOWEVER I vetted through almost 20 scams and contacted 5 different legit breeders before i found one that was actually available. These little guys are in high demand and usually you get put on a wait list and it could take months or years before you're puppy is actually even born.
Did you put a deposit? If so how?
@@JJ-gr7th we found the guy through facebook, he just had a litter born and we expressed interest in them. He msged through out the day and later called and video chatted us showing all the babies and the ones that weren't claimed yet. Grey frenchies (or blues) go for 6k, Rottweiler colored frenchies go for 5-6k and the brindles go for considerably cheaper (2.5-3.5k) anyway we chose a black brindle male and he later drew up a contract through docu-sign which we electronically signed. Afterwards he asked for the deposit of 500$ at first to lock it in which we paid, they were 5 weeks old so were to young so decided to wait another week and a half to wean them more. When the time came instead of meeting up halfway he drove right to our town because he had family where we live (which i confirmed through social media sleuthing) so he drove the whole way here. We sent another 200 for gas since he was a state away, when he got here we payed the 2,000 in cash in person. We got the dog and the AKC paperwork, shook hands etc. We've had him for 4 months now and hes perfectly healthy with no issues. My advice firstly is if you can, drive to them. If you do decide to have them drive to you, DO EXTENSIVE RESEARCH on the person your buying from, I went through over 4 years of facebook posts and scouted the entire internet to find info on this guy before I went ahead with it. If there's no social media presence and they don't video chat you showing themselves with the puppies DONT DO IT. Also if they say the puppy is fully vaccinated then its likely a scam because they get the shots later in life. Another thing is a real breeder will draw up a CONTRACT and be completely open about they're business and what they do. If they cant answer simple questions its likely BS. Hope this helps, goodluck!
I fell victim to one of these Is there a place to report them and I have 2 phone numbers one for the “breeder” and the other for “transport co.”
Be sure to see the puppies mother too ..
Just for accuracy, it's 2021 - and puppy prices have never been higher. But there is ONE piece of good news, if you like French Bulldogs! After Labradors, they are now the #2 most popular breed (I was stunned by this - what happened to Golden Retrievers?!?) and because of that, people are breeding them like crazy. As a result, the prices have dropped (somewhat).
I'm in Canada (our prices are higher than in the US bc we have less-selection) and there are 40 available listings on Kijiji (Canada's version of craigslist) right now, and here are the prices: $3200 - $5500. The latter was for a blue merle, which is quite rare. There was a 16-month male available for less ($2500). So $10K US seems a bit rich - it may well have been that in 2019, but this is one breed where the price has actually dropped (a bit)! If I saw one for less than $3000, I would be suspicious.
The dislikes are all the employee's there
Always adopt, never buy.
In the U.K. when buying a pedigree puppy they sell them with their Kennel Club name which have to an original name. You wouldn’t get a "Lacey", my German shepherd was called "Dalziel So Perfect" by her registration though we called her "Makeda".
A moo goo scammer. Thanks for bringing new scams to light.
I would like to hear how he would have avoided you saying you would collect the puppy
The photos used were lifted elsewhere from the internet. A quick google search shows that.
So true. You just need to do a reverse Google image search.😆
Right ?! Every time I find a dog online I immediately reverse image search first !

Julie!!! I missed you! My grandpuppy is a French Bulldog. He was/is the most adorable little guy. They paid $2000 for him through a legit breeder. (10,000 is a bit much. They usually sell for $2000-$4000 here in NY/NJ) LMAO..MCPHERSON? Really...😂🤣😂🤣😂
Lol the Alexander guy sounds exactly like Ownage Pranks African character also named Alexander 😂😂😂😂
Wow wished i would have seen this before i was puppy scammed.
Keep up.
Also never send money via Zelle -- it seems secure since it's bank-to-bank, but Zelle cannot track the accounts on either end and it is not their policy to refund your money if you are scammed. They insist the service is to be used between parties who know each other in person. It is just as risky as gift cards and other forms of payment.
Beware of scams where someone offers you something for money in person but the thing isn't there and they say it will be sent to you later. This happened to me one day. Someone came to my house and offered me stuff in a magazine for money. He was a teenager, I think, and said he was raising money for a trip to Maui. I gave him money for something and never got it. Later I learned that's a scam.

Hey love the new RED FLAG 🚩, nice touch😊
Why are there so many puppy mills and scams out of Pensilvania?
Wow your cool for doing this bro
I wonder what excuse he would have used if you would have asked for more photos or a video of the puppy.
That's the strangest Pennsy accent I've ever heard.
your check box bogus items = red flag id lecture is just perfect...
Why is this getting recommended to me 2years later
I wonder what would have happened had you said you want to come visit and pick up your puppy in person ? Would really like to have seen how that would play out ??
They would have sent a false address. I have people showing up at my house looking for puppies for 3 years now. They aren’t too happy when I tell them they been scammed.
Puppy mills are terrible

I unfortunately got scammed by a person with the same accent and I feel so dumb I don’t know what to do
How can you use the term "adorable" with French Bulldogs?
I was scammed by these pet scammers, and I was most likely wanting to purchase a ragdoll kitten and I didn't see the red flags to the scam and I heavily blame myself to it and I lost $1000 so please If anyone wants to purchase a pet online please please please don't.
It's common sense to not trust the person unless you do research on their business first.
