I am so glad I was sat down when Ron started using a scope.
The surprise shocked me 😂😜
Been there done that. It’s broke. I got the tshirt. That joke makes me smile every time. Keep it up Joe!
You're the Bob Ross of retrogame repairs! I learned a lot from this channel to fix my pinball machine, and every new video, even if unrelated to pinball is a learning experience. Thank you and keep it up!
Really enjoyed this.. and I am with you. I LOVE this game. Played it for many paychecks back in the 80's. LOL Never liked paperboy!!! So to me, that's a crime to change this one out cause PAPER BOY SUCK!!!!. Thank you!!!
Greg
That was a funny ending!
Thanks for watching Ken!
I would have loved to work for Atari back in the day, even Texas Instruments would have been cool. Love your videos. Thanks.
@51:20 RONNNNNIIIIIEEEE! It's BROKE!
Loved that game too, who would want to turn it into Paperboy?!
Power supply, power supply , power supply 😂😂 That’s the first thing that popped into my head when the video started , that and its broke 😂. Joe you are a master at Sprint ! I was always terrible at that game . Thanks for another cool video guys !
The uPD446'es are 2Kx8 RAMS
So!!! I have a broken HP Nixie tube frequency counter. Been sitting for about 5 years as I have been doing tube radio restoration. I have all the digital and logic probes in my test equipment arsenal of tools! Your video inspired me to go grab it and dive into its circuits as it had a tone of chips. I know the power supply is fine so let’s go find the 1’s and 0’s and see what is not flip flopping as it should!!
There you go, break that scope out :)
"I don't even know what's wrong with it." I do. Its broke XD. That's why I love Joe because he has a sense of humor
Ron,
I thought it was quite funny how you were going on your little rant and right @ 15:45 the screen goes blank and you are back cool as a cucumber.
You likely already know the cop in T2 was the T1000, thanks for the laugh anyway! Great tag team video guys, thanks!
Hey Joe. Your middle name must be Andretti the way you get around the track. Great work fixing this up, ready to rock again.
Ho-lee-whiz you absolutely SPANKED those other drivers--until they cut your accelerator cable!
And I also say that Paperboy sucks.
Just got one of these a few weeks ago and my players adore it! Really interesting around 10:30 lots of chips without as much solder in the holes as I would like 🤔
That is one massive slab of a PCB.
Absolute UNIT! 😅
LOL Joe BROKE it!
Lots of great memories for me with this arcade game. I loved playing it in ‘87 or ‘88 while racing RC cars at a hotel near Cleveland for the radio controlled US Champs. I have had this game for the NES ever since.
After looking at the game board I will stick with vintage Tube Electronics and my VTVM and 5 tube testers!!! Back to amateur repair time 😊😊
Hey Ron!!
Hey Joe!! I'm with you. CS is a better game.
3:00 Joe's list for Ron:
"It's broke"
3:30 sure enough, Joe's list.
You're the best Joe brothers!
that was good
Ron, I like your videos better than Joe’s videos so keep on turning out lots of videos. Have a good
I personally prefer Joe's videos to my own!
I remember playing this game when I was a kid! It was fun : )
Just ordered some souv vide stuff using your link. Thanks for the cool arcade videos.
The bit about the board to put in place of the pedals reminds me of Exidy's early bowling game "Robot Bowl"--some of the cabinets were surplus from a racing game and there was this hole at the bottom where the pedals went, so their solution was to put a label over it that said "CAUTION - BALL RETURN". Pretty funny.
Love all the Atari System 1 and 2 games, especially this one. Thanks for sharing. Regards
Like the ole Hillbilly said... Powersupply Powersupply! :)
dayum that board is long!!!
Very entertaining and fun to watch. Thanks for posting this.
Joe driving Ross Chastain style there! 😂 Hope it doesn't get converted, it's cool! 😎
That T11 chip is Digital Equipment Corporation (DEC) PDP-11 minicomputer in chip form! So cool, didn't know they used that for video games! 😃
Early 1950's called...they want their PCB back!
Great game! Love that game!
I can't believe they made a board that large.
that board is huge, wow!
Sprint is... B R O K E
The Championship Super Sprint I remember from Showbiz Pizza had 3 steering wheels. Don't think I had ever seen the 2 steering wheel version until this video.
LOL I never cared for PaperBoy either, Joe.
CR1 and CR2 are not zeners. They're clamping diodes, meant to prevent that chip's input from swinging above or below the DC 5V rail (VCC and VDD), which is possible because the 324 is operating on a split rail supply
Nice driving Joe! Love this game.
Yo I love you guys very noligeable you guys and your pranks with you to r great. But also m a big big fan of your guys Chanel keep up the great work and keep bringing history back to life. And it’s broke
Thank you for watching Jonathan!!!
Thinking about the conversation with the PCB fab over making that board. "... how many FEET?"
Would be hilarious if that factory solder joint was the problem.
Now you have a Championship Sprint for your man-cave to go next to the Arkanoid.
Every time I see a championship sprint or a super sprint in the arcade, I always play! I remember seeing championship sprint often and wondered why I don't see them for sell much... that's a shame.
Hi Yodelayheehoo
Hello Lil Everette!
"Aint got no Gas", says Carl... :)
What do you mean you aren't any good? You are an amazing player.
I replaced my plastic steering wheel hubs with billet aluminum units I got off some guy on ebay back in the day. My wheels are solid and spin smooth. Lately, however, my machine has started having problems that seem to be related to it being very old. Like, having to reseat chips all the time.
GALS, PLCCS, and PROMS were commonly used for copy protection.
Wait!! Does the steering wheel have an Air Bag??? 😢 nice work!!!
Airbags were NOT mandatory
in all new cars until 1998. 😁
@@AlwaysAwesome001 Good point, thanks!!! 🙂
This was kind of a retro game even when it was made, an updated revival of Atari's classic top-down racer games from the 1970s. Cool idea.
Great video, missed those days, this and Roadblasters were my favorite Atari racing titles. Hope all is well with you and your brothers, heard a storm went through Rock Hill.
We are all ok, But did a lot of damage to our vehicles and we will probably need a new roof on our store unfortunately, worst hail storm I've ever seen
Thanks for checking in
I'm with you Joe! Championship Sprint is better than Paperboy (though it is fun)
I could never quite wrap my head around the overhead driving games that were controlled with a steering wheel. Is left left or is it sometimes right, depending which way my car is facing? Alas, I never was very good at these!
That's even bigger than UPL's Omega Fighter...
I'm really surprised how massive this board is, given how prone to flexing and solder breaks such a thing would be.
Champion sprint is better than paperboy for replay value, but I like the similar off road racing ga,e better. The off road game may also be more operator friendly as you can dump in money to upgrade your vehicle faster. Joe may think paperboy is trash but I double that would stop him from selling that cartridge
I always thought you could buy upgrades after each race if you picked up the spanner. Been a long time since I played it though...
JOE, Why would F4 Fuse for the 18VAC make the watchdog circuit and reset circuit not work correctly and stay HIGH on the CPU reset pin?
I'm with you... Paperboy sucks.
Paperboy does indeed suck, one of the most aggravating games ever created
It's actually a cool game and cabinet.
So indeed u r both wrong
Pah, clickbait the PCB probably isn't that big, just putting that on the title to get view................oh dear lord that thing is massive, it'd block out the Sun!!! (Cause of recent eclipse?) I take it all back, it is absolutely huge and a thing of wonder, thanks for sharing, and have a good day.
every time I pick up a broken game the seller tries to tell me its probably just a fuse to keep the price up. this time it was just a fuse
We knew what was on the list. Hey .. people .. it’s drama time!
You must be a blast at parties
But does it have 4 boards like Starblade does?
On the monitor, you can call it raster (but no video) .. we can handle it.
Man! Go get your quarter back!

Well.... no video.... Green Box = "IT'S BROKE"
ALL of the chips look similar. They are all covered with dust.
They all work the same when broke. 😁
Once again Joe was right! plus the note in the game was a perfect touch.
2a-d are the ram chips.
Type 6116P3 150 ns RAM
7:25 I can see a rusted through trace on the bottom right, please tell me you cleaned that up later.
No I didn't, where???? WHERE??:????? Oh god, a trace somebody on youtube didn't like!!!!! OH NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO
