You say he took on the country music establishment and failed let’s see 25,000,000+ album sold, 14 top 10 hits and a successful acting career. If That’s what you call a failure, I would love to be one.
I met Dwight just after his SlingBlade part at a local Hollywood hole in the wall bar. I mentioned to a pal that I really liked him in Sling blade. He stopped by my table to say hello. A thrill for me. A real gent and a nice guy. He even gave me a little kiss on the cheek when he left. A fave memory of my years in Hollywood. I hope he makes a big come back.
I’ve been a fan since Guitars and Cadillacs! I love all of his music so it’s hard to pick one song. Buenas Noches from a Lonely Room (She Wore Red Dresses) is a top favorite. I’ve seen him in concert 3 times and he’s been amazing every time. Most recently was September in Little Rock, Arkansas. I also think he’s a fantastic actor. I love Sling Blade and his part in Wedding Crashers. My lifelong dream has been to meet him and tell him how my Dad started dancing while playing guitar, practicing for months because “Dwight does this so it must be cool.” ❤
never a bad role either... i've grown up listening to his music, with the same attitude toward nashville, born and raised 20 miles from it. and watching his acting career with as much enthusiasm, if i saw dwight in the trailer, i was gonna watchi it. he's just too cool for nashville or hollywood.
So do I. I am a musician and Dwight Yokum is a big influence on my style of guitar playing/song writing. I have been with him since day one. I was pleased to view this footage. "She wore red dresses".
Dwight graced my small town of Torrington CT. I already was a fan but listening to him live was the ultimate. His performance was stellar and I remember it to this day. I’m still a fan regardless of concert dates. This man has got nothing further to prove. Legend.
My uncle once offered him a job, not knowing who he was. He owned an asbestos removal company and flew all over to oversee the various projects. He would often need to hire workers. He was in the restaurant/bar of the hotel he was staying in in New Orlando once, and kept seeing this “country-looking fella” that could’ve used some new clothes and new boots. DY handled it extremely well and sincerely thanked my uncle for the offer. They chatted for a few minutes and DY left. The waitress came over all excited and said “don’t you know who that was?? That was Dwight Yoakum!” So he called home and asked my aunt, a country music fan, if she’d ever heard of him. Bahaha! It took him a while to live that one down! But he said he was a gentleman and very down to earth, and never let on that he was famous or above any job. That was kind of nice to know. 😊
I enjoyed reading what you shared here..about your uncle offering him a job, and how DY was polite, never letting your uncle know who he was or letting on that he was famous. Such a cool story and what a memory for him and your uncle!
He still performs live shows...I went to one of his concerts 5 years ago..and he's about to begin his 2024 tour. Love Dwight..and he's far from the failure you tried to portray him as.
Thanks for letting us know. I was so upset when I heard he died. Turns out the RUclips video saying he passed is still online. I have reported as fake. ruclips.net/video/WEMvAGtglZg/видео.htmlsi=BM-JQT2BNhmUOH4w
I never was into country music until I heard Mr. Dwight Yoakam as well as Jason and the Scorchers and Katey Lang And The Reclines. I still Love Dwight Yoakam both as an actor and a musician. He helped to change the sound and face of Country Music !!
I would never call Dwight Yoakum a failure. I was just 7 or 8 singing along with my Dad to his music. Still love his music to this day & still think he deserves recognition. I also think he is a good actor.
Dwight didn’t just cut a successful record with Buck Owen’s in 1987 and then dropped off the map. Dwight is a legend and has had a career most could only dream about. The music he made in the 80s and 90s still holds up….one of the best of all time….
YES I don't know where hegot this crap from. Dwight is the best of the best. His style of writing is the best ever. The only country singer I like as well.
My daughter won a radio contest by naming every Dwight Yoakum song by listening to snippets of each song. I'm talking like 2 seconds each! She won 4 tickets to his local concert. We saw him live and it was great! His music keeps a wholesome past alive.
He did not lose with the country music establishment!!! He was AWESOME and One of the Best! He didn't have a bad record or song! Good for Dwight to stand up for his music, his style, and his fellow country music artists! ❤
I wouldn't put failure and Dwight Yoakam in the same sentence. The man is a living legend. Hes a great singer, song writer and great actor as well. He can play a real mean bad guy very well and convincingly too. The man is talented. He deserves way more credit and respect.
I've never been a huge country music fan, but even I know that Dwight Yoakam is a LEGEND! He stuck to his guns, didn't sell his soul, & people LOVE the man. Now THAT'S success 💖💖💖
I have loved Dwight Yokum’s music from the first time I ever heard him sing! I said he would be the next Hank Williams and, in my opinion, he is. He sings TRUE country music, not the stuff they call country music today. I also think he is a good actor. I rarely watch movies, or television, but I did see him in a couple of movies and was impressed that he could act as well as sing. I am glad he found the love he was looking for and has a family that loves and appreciates him. This Arkansas Hillbilly is proud of him!🌷💐
Sling Blade, one of the best Movies in my Memories for me and my Husband and Many More. And Yes, Happy he never sold out to Nashville, one of the Worst Places in the Country in 2024. Just a bunch of drunken bars and drunks.
Dwight never failed.he is a wonderful songwriter and singer. He is a very successful artist. He got into a tight spot and will recover. His beautiful wife has just had a baby and things are looking great for him. More power to Dwight.x
I love Dwight yoakam and he never quit music,I saw him live last year at Harrah's casino in Cherokee NC, he rocked that place and there were a surprisingly large number of younger people there,it was awesome
Never liked it but I got it. I admired it for what it was. He came up with a 'thing' & made it work. Thats a lot harder than it looks. So, I can respect the guy for that.
I am a big fan of Dwight. I feel he was under appreciated and yet a true talent. I feel shame for Nashville and their treatment of a man who gives joy to so many in this world. I am so sorry he has not received the recognition so deserved.
It took decades for Nashville to accept Hank Williams jr. Even Waylon said "Nashville only cares about you after you die". Now they do Waylon Jennings tribute shows every year. They always praise Hank Sr. while they ignored his son for decades. Dwight ditched Nashville to go to LA and started his music career there.
1000 miles from nowhere is on the list of my favorite songs of his. I was homeless for about a year. Things are better now. When things were not, this song would come to mind. It helped cheer me in some metaphysical way I can't explain. Peace and Love, everyone. 😊🙏
Yes love that song....now I think he went to college for theater. So that's is one of his loves too... I'm happy he's still singing and acting and family.
I’m a huge Dwight Yokam fan and I feel it is a badge of honor not to in the country music hall of fame especially the way country music is NOT country anymore! I’m proud he stayed true to himself!
That’s how I think of the R&R Hall of fame. Both halls are pathetic in my opinion. I live in Cleveland and refuse to support that disgraceful institution.
Interesting presentation - caught my attention immediately. I am a 70s rocker - Seger, Eagles, Foreigner, Springsteen - a wide variety. But for some reason in the last few years I have become a one-man Dwight Yoakam fan. I listen to his SXM Radio as much as I can and listen to his music a lot. He’s unique. I love his music! It’s a unique blend of different genres! I wish him great resurgence and success - I think he’s a highly overlooked and versatile talent. The real thing!
Hi, my name is Tony and I am a victim of click bait. Now i was never a big fan of dwights but I know and remember him from the 80s with "little sister" "Guitars and Cadillacs" and the duet with Buck Owens. So when i read this guys title about Yoakam basically disappearing i thought this could be interesting, 'click' and the hook was set. Its good to hear from the comments that he is actually doing well though and with a new young family.
I worked security at one of his shows in the mid 80s. During soundcheck he called me out for my opinion on what sounded better (this? Played / or that? Played). Super nice guy. Just down to earth and a regular guy.
Dwight is the absolute SUCCESS STORY in every aspect of life. Everyone has bumps in the roads of life. He has done it all his way. Dwight is America's great neighbor. You don't see him every single day - but when you do - you hand him a beer and enjoy the time you have sittin' with him in the Drive way just shootin' the shit. The world needs more Dwight Yoakum's. God bless you D. 🤗❤️🙏✝️🎶
I resent your seeming lack of respect for Dwight. He is an original talent with integrity. I'm thrilled with the happiness he’s found. I'd love to still see him preform, but he’s entitled to a rich life.
One of my favorites too, Buck was very grateful to Dwight for one more moment in the sun,he was also very appreciative to his fans,he had cancelled his last show because he wasn't feeling well when he came upon a couple who traveled a long way to see him and decided the least he could do was go back in and perform ,he left the world sometime during the night afterwards. That's what real country is about.
He's talented, with his own unique style. He's a damn fine actor that really interprets his character very convincingly. I would like to see more of him on screen. Because he was his own Man he has been ignored by the Country and Western community elites. He has proven himself to be very versatile, hardworking and persistent. All The Best To Dwight Yoakam. I wish him every success for the future. So glad for him he found Love.
Dwight Yoakam was in my favorite movie of all time SLING BLADE, his performance was Oscar worthy, so was everyone in that movie from Billy Bob to Jon Ritter.
I loved Dwight way back then and I still do...not just because he sings and performs beautifully but because he is true to himself and to his fans. I love you Dwight 💕
Dwight Yoakam has the best voice in the history of country music that’s right in the history of country music what he can do with his voice is absolutely incredible. I saw him at a really small venue in Aspen one time and stood 10 feet away for two hours it was the best thing that I ever saw in life his song she wore red dresses is one of the top country songs of all time the lyrics are absolutely stunning cut down to the bone pure and meaningful that song is incredible.
Thankful he didn’t sell his soul. My sister and I had front row tickets to his show in Louisville Kentucky about 25 years ago. We are and will always be big fans. He’s a rebel ❤
I saw a Dwight Yoakum, at the Delmar Fair, in the early 2000 years. I had travelled to San Diego by motorcycle, and was entertained by relatives to a day at the Del Mar fair. For an extra 5 bucks, I was fortunate to enjoy one of the best concerts of my life. Amazing, nothing held back. Total respect for Dwight ever since.
I have always like Dwight Yoakum. Just saw him in a series under the dome on Paramount+. I was shocked but knew him right away. Good for him for being his own man and not giving in to the elites.
Been a fan since '91. Seen him live 10/15 times. I feel Dwight is overlooked as a songwriter and entertainer. Nashville overlooked the genuine genius of the man. One day very soon hopefully he will get his due. Thank u Dwight for all the great music. God bless.
I would say Dwight won his "battle" with Nashville. He was at the epicenter of the neo-traditional country movement that saved country music in the 80s, helped create what would become the Americana genre, and influenced (for better or worse) a lot of future country artists, particularly with his aesthetics. His decline from mainstream country happened on account of a combination of the slickening of corporate radio, record label neglect, and burning both ends of the candle too much what with his acting/filmmaking. He still tours, I just saw him in Milwaukee, and is in great shape with his voice still in tact just as I heard it 24 years ago when I became a fan. I'm glad he's still able to tour while enjoying life as a husband and father.
@@jodylambert1647 Me too. I'm a boomer crypto-blues country guy. I'm not sure what that means either. Dwight was the Hank Williams Sr. of the late eighties. Just didn't drink enough. Too bad.
Always loved Dwight's music, ans showmansship since the very beginning. Also dated his little cousin Janet for a while in early 90's in Bridgeport, Tx. Salt of the earth folks. Seen him in concert many times over the years. Never ever get tired of his music. Wishing he and his the absolute best. May God Bless them all.
Big Dwight Yoakam fan here; favorite song of his is Fast As You, and Guitars Cadillacs and Hillbilly Music. He is a surprisingly good actor. He brought back rockabilly. The author's narrative and descriptions of choices Dwight made are bullshit; complete fabrications.
I saw Dwight Yokum in concert with Clint Black in 1990 in El Paso, Texas. He appeared in his tight baby blue jeans and we went wild over his music and performance. He is true to his music; my favorite song is🤠 "Guitars and Cadillacs", but they all rock!
I don't think my ex ever heard a word he sang once he was on stage and started dancing around wiggling his butt, I used to ask her if she needed a towel or a bucket
I always loved Dwight Yoakam's music. One of my fondest memories is listening to him singing with Buck Owens on the Streets of Bakersfield. My wife and I listened to that song so many times we wore out the CD. Even if he hadn't recorded another song, he would have been successful with that one record. But he didn't stop there, Dwight recorded so many great songs like Guitars and Cadillacs, Little Sister, Crazy Little Thing Called Love, Long White Cadillac, I Sang Dixie, and many many more. Just like Buck Owens, he carved his own musical path and lived outside of Nashville. But where Buck decided to join up with Hee-Haw, which in turn boosted his career to stardom and made Buck Owens a household name, Dwight decided to follow the true rebel path. Dwight's music occupies a space in the minds of the people who love real country music. To his fans he deserves a place right along with some of its biggest legends like Johnny Cash, George Jones and Merle Haggard.
I’ve been a fan forever! 1000 miles from nowhere, love his acting skills, l think he was great with Mary Steenburgen, love the 3 pears and would love to see him in concert. He is my go to music on you tube 👏 so glad he found true love and has a child! Why isn’t he nominated in the Country Music Hall of Fame?..He should be right there with Mother Maybell. Love my hillbilly music, and couldn’t be prouder of those strong people who helped settle our country.🇺🇸 Rockabilly rock on👍🏼
"would love to see him in concert" If you ever get the chance to go, if possible, do so. We went to see him many times, started going when we became aware of him in the 80's. The last show we saw was on September 7, 2001. Out of all his shows we went to over the years, I thought it was one of the best; we had a great time. Of course little did any of us know what would come to be 4 days later, on 9/11. My opinion to anyone wondering if they should spend their money to go see him, I think you'd be happy afterwards. We've never been disappointed!
Dwight Yoakem is one of my favorite country stars, saw him live in 2018 at white river theater canyon lake Texas. His music got me through a lot long times while serving in the Navy and going out on deployments. He took on Nashville now I love him even more
Great musician & many, many iconic songs & albums!!! Saw him at many concerts & he puts on a great show!! He so deserves to be recognized in the Music industry!
Dwight Yokum is not only a great singer but he is also a great actor . He is also a true country singer that puts today's so-called country talent to shame ! !
Im a 31 year old woman, who begin listening to country and his song “little ways” popped out, i fell in love. It’s 2024, i just found out about him, and imma keep listening to him. AMAZING MUSIC, his energy and beat is what pulled me in. Im a fan now. Plus he’s a Scorpio ♏️ 🍒 on top for me 😎
I was in his fan club back before he disbanded it. He used to send out cassettes where he'd talk to the fans. It was nice. I still miss receiving those. Even at 63 he's sexy as hell. Yes he was a great actor, he made you hate him on that screen when he played a terrible person. And he always seems like a nice guy everywhere else. At Buck's funeral you could see the pain and grief in him, of course he seemed completely different than normal. As for my favorite song, "A Thousand Miles From Nowhere". Although..."I sang Dixie" is pretty close. I didn't know he'd gotten back into music again. I'm glad.
You say he took on the country music establishment and failed let’s see 25,000,000+ album sold, 14 top 10 hits and a successful acting career. If That’s what you call a failure, I would love to be one.
Bingo 🎯
Yup. He's one of a kind. My Dad loved him and I was listening to him forever.
I still listen. My bands still play his music.
Tell 'em son!!❤
People will say anything just to get clicks and views
He’s a real country singer, unlike the performers nowadays.
Ive been hearing that since Hank Williams died. Bear in mind, that was before George Jones had his first hit.
New stuff, pop country, hickhop and all of it is trash

Im still following Dwight's music!!! Hes still aroumd!!! Love him!!.
1000 Miles From Nowhere
I absolutely love that song. I also like Dwight’s Sirius channel.
All the music hall of fames are a big freaking joke now. It’s all political and not about the talent like it used to be.
His unique voice and his very cool performances made listening and watching him a fantastic experience. What talent!

How about them tight pants. She wore red dresses ❤❤❤❤ is my fav.
Or them lethal hips and pelvis@@carolmanning1333
Interesting presentation - caught my attention immediately. I am a 70s rocker - Seger, Eagles, Foreigner, Springsteen - a wide variety. But for some reason in the last few years I have become a one-man Dwight Yoakam fan. I listen to his SXM Radio as much as I can and listen to his music a lot. He’s unique. I love his music! It’s a unique blend of different genres! I wish him great resurgence and success - I think he’s a highly overlooked and versatile talent. The real thing!
My absolute favorite country singer of all time! The Best!

He is not a failure not at all, he is multitalented and very intelligent...I love his music!!!!❤❤❤❤
The best country singer ever!!!!
Hippie Yippee Kia-Yai😊
Went to high school with Dwight. Super nice guy.
Definitely not a failure. I don't even like country music but I love Dwight Yokam.. great musician and great actor as well
Love his music and nobody could wear a pair of Levi's like that man.....seen him live back in the early 90's......still listening!!
Good for Dwight, for his authentic values, and true grit.
Surprised but very pleased
I resent your seeming lack of respect for Dwight. He is an original talent with integrity. I'm thrilled with the happiness he’s found. I'd love to still see him preform, but he’s entitled to a rich life.
You want him to preform? Huh? What is that?
Streets of Bakersfield is my favorite song, especially his duo with Buck Owens, who I always loved.
We just attended a Dwight Yoakum concert last September. He still puts on one helluva show.
i love dwight and i always will i have listened to him since i was young and i will always listen to him ❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤
He's talented, with his own unique style.

Agreed 100%
@@donnakirk215 👍🏼😊
Totally agree!
@@OliveEyes 👍🏼😊
My favorite movie too!
I loved Dwight way back then and I still do...not just because he sings and performs beautifully but because he is true to himself and to his fans.
I love you Dwight 💕
Well said !
Honest man in a dis- honest industry
Sad, they missed out. We bought and listened to his music.
Please check out my comment up above--I'm sure you'll agree.
I sub to you because you made me a new Dwight Yokum fan. I'm going to look up his music and watch his movies.
Hubby and I love his music, We see him every time he is near Oklahoma. Love the old stuff and his new swing on other music!
God bless him for having a family, career, and his own way, not a sell out!
I love Dwight Yoakam!💗He has a wonderful voice.
How do i not recommend this channel and stop getting suggested videos?
I saw him at the Ohio State Fair years ago, in an outdoor concert. Really liked him. I'm proud he grew up right here in Columbus, Ohio.
I loved his voice and his music! He's a legend and should be honored as one!
I’m really glad you guys did this video.
One of my 5 top country singers, I've been listening to him since I was 12 and always will. My favourite Dwight song "I sang Dixie"
I have always like Dwight Yoakum. Just saw him in a series under the dome on Paramount+. I was shocked but knew him right away. Good for him for being his own man and not giving in to the elites.
Dwight Yoakem was the real deal. He was fantastic and highly respected by artists of many genres.
I love Dwight Yoakam's voice and acting! I saw him live at a rodeo in Austin TX and he was fabulous.
During that time he disappeared I saw him four times in concert and quite a few movies .
Yes he never disappeared.
Can't get enough of Dwight's music he has a great channel on sirius radio really good talks all about the ups and downs
Love his music, have seen him live twice and there is no doubt he should be in the country hall of fame!
I love Dwights music,always have always will👏👏🥰🌹
@@jodylambert1647 Me too. I'm a boomer crypto-blues country guy. I'm not sure what that means either. Dwight was the Hank Williams Sr. of the late eighties. Just didn't drink enough. Too bad.
He will
The hall of Fame is a joke without Dwight Yoakun
Seeing him in concert tonight. Farthest thing from a failure. He is an immense talent.
Check out his diet with KD Lang. Dynamite Duo
I love, love, love, Dwight Yoakam❤❤❤❤❤ his hillbilly music and his acting…. Wish him the best for him and his family ❤❤❤❤❤
He is one of my favorites country music artist.I want to hear more of his music.and also to see him in movies
HE IS MULTI TALENTED ♥️♥️♥️♥️♥️🇺🇲
He took on Nashville now I love him even more
I'm a drummer in a band I like all of the Dwight Yoakam music especially guitars and Cadillacs❤
Great musician & many, many iconic songs & albums!!! Saw him at many concerts & he puts on a great show!! He so deserves to be recognized in the Music industry!
Saw him perform at Willie’s 4th of July Concert in Austin 2023. Awesome ❤
Dwight is great. He should keep making great country music, his forte, and eventually the tides will turn!
I like Dwight. I think I have a couple cassettes of him.
@@susanbrown7898I know I have 2 of his CDs
I saw Dwight live a few months ago 2023. He is still strong good and worth the price of a ticket.
Dwight Yokum is not only a great singer but he is also a great actor . He is also a true country singer that puts today's so-called country talent to shame ! !
he shopped in the store i work in in nashville he drove a pink cadillac
I'm glad.
