I like him mostly for his efforts to keep his music "country." REAL country music is pretty much gone. I never even listen to mainstream radio anymore because there is NO country music on it. I listen to one station that plays oldies. And just listen to my playlist which is full of the REAL stuff. I think my favorite song by this guy is LOVES GOT A HOLD ON YOU.

I grew up just 35 miles from where Alan did so we both Georgia boys. I don't have to watch this to know why he stepped away. He feels the same as I do that country music has lost its way and is heading in a direction away from its roots. I gave up listening to new country after the year 2000 because most all of it is fairly generic with no memorable lyrics or tunes in my opinion. What is great about 90s country is that I enjoy singing along with most every song but for some reason the new stuff just doesn't chime with me that way.
