    Tears for Fears was a part of the “Second British Invasion” that included bands like Duran Duran, Bananarama, Depeche Mode, Human League, and so many others. All the good Brit synth pop/alternative music of the 80s. If you know the 80s, you know Tears for Fears. You guys really need an early to mid-80s teen movie night with 16 Candles, The Breakfast Club, Ferris Bueller’s Day Off, and Better Off Dead. Fill yourself with 80s stuff and you will never again have to wonder what decade an 80s song came from.

    • @centuryrox
      @centuryrox 2 года назад +33

      And all of the second British invasion was helped immensely by MTV in the early 80s. Those bands are so well-known now, but probably would've never been known without MTV (you know, the channel that stands for MUSIC TELEVISION, but never plays music anymore, and hasn't for about 25 years now)

    • @laminage

      Right On! They like alot of UK British Groups met in School or as Children. They were luckier than ost Duos like Wham and even Hall & Oates because they each took turns singing lead. The Drummer is Manny Elias and their Keyboard Player is Ian Stewart. They also had a Song called "Mad World" that was covered by Gary Jules and someone used it to pay homage to folks who died of AIDS. In 1985 when American Bandstand celebrated 33 1/3 Years on The Air they did their Follow Up "Head Over Heels". Also if you listen carefully the Guitar Riff may have been inspired by "Don't Mess With Bill" by The Marvelettes.

      You would think that if they did a little research on these legendary groups, that they would know all the answers. To a, that Tears For Fears, had a lot of hits. And b, that their music is from the 1980s. Of course it's from the 1980s, that means it's very good. Have you heard today's music, it's hot garbage most of it. "Mad World" was a hit in the UK for them but the haunting cover version by Gary Jules was a US hit many years later. (Speaking of cover versions, Lorde has an amazing cover of "Everybody Wants To Rule The World.") My very favorite Tears For Fears song is "Mothers Talk"! The band's debut album, The Hurting (1983), reached number one on the UK Albums Chart, and their first three hit singles - "Mad World", "Change", and "Pale Shelter" - all reached the top five in the UK Singles Chart. Their second album, Songs from the Big Chair (1985), reached number one on the US Billboard 200, achieving multi-platinum status in both the US and the UK. The album contained two US Billboard Hot 100 number one hits: "Shout" and "Everybody Wants to R 5:23 ule the World", both of which also reached the top five in the UK with the latter winning the Brit Award for Best British Single in 1986. Their belated follow-up, The Seeds of Love (1989), entered the UK chart at number one and yielded the transatlantic top 5 hit "Sowing the Seeds of Love".
    After touring The Seeds of Love in 1990, Orzabal and Smith had an acrimonious split. Orzabal retained the Tears for Fears name as a solo project, releasing the albums Elemental (1993) - which produced the international hit "Break It Down Again" - and Raoul and the Kings of Spain (1995). Orzabal and Smith reconciled in 2000 and released an album of new material, Everybody Loves a Happy Ending, in 2004. The duo have toured on a semi-regular basis since then. After being in development for almost a decade, the band's seventh album, The Tipping Point, was released in 2022, giving the band their sixth UK T 5 album and their highest chart peak in 30 years, and reaching the Top 10 in numerous other countries, including the US.
    In 2021, Orzabal and Smith were honoured with the Ivor Novello Award for 'Outstanding Song Collection' recognising their "era-defining Tears for Fears albums" and "critically acclaimed, innovative hit singles".

    Such a huge, huge hit, along with “Shout” from my Senior year of HS, 1985. Thanks for the rushing return of memories this triggered! You’ll see the other guy in the duo sing lead on “Shout”, which was an even bigger hit.
    They had several other slightly smaller hits as well (for any other artist those slightly smaller hits would be considered their biggest hits ever, so it’s all relative).

    What is and always has been so amazing about Tears For Fears is that they had their own sound. They never really fit in to the 80's for example. Unlike anything anyone was doing and still to this day. Very much their own sound and very timeless. So much to their catalog. Working Hour and Woman in Chains - just musically above the bar.

    Tears for Fears are iconic to me! This is one of my favorite songs EVER. They had some great songs! They still tour. LOVE LOVE LOVE them. "Welcome to your life...there's no turning back"...those lyrics still hit me in my 40s. I promise...the older you get... this song will make more sense.

    Check out Pet Shop Boys "West End Girls" - that song still transports me back to the 80s! And ABC, they were awesome - "The Look of Love" or "Poison Arrow", my two favorites.
