I’ve only had it a couple days but am digging it so far. No exp with bowed instruments. If you have an acoustic with pickup then plug it into an amp. You won’t have to worry as much about how to bow loudly. Definitely seems easier to get cool sounds out of the lower strings, which would be like a cello, I guess? I hope to do a jam soon. Just ordered a cheap acoustic fretless bass so I can give that a shot too. I don’t think it’s a gimmick. It will take lots of practice for sure. Appreciate this video and you sharing your experience!
I've been watching with interest of the 🎻 guitar bow I'm very tempted myself to have a play check out some more videos! Keep up the good work. Enjoy! Have fun. That's what it's all about. God bless
Well, LOL, it's not quite like Jimmy Page shredding a violin box through a Echoplex and Marshall stacks, but you convinced me to get one when I heard you put some delay on it - truly amazing!
Funny, we build something like this 10 years before. It's so simple to make with some skills in tinkering. A piece of wood, a screw and some old hairs from a bowstring oder the simple version use some rubber bands and add some rosin. The are so many ways to tinker a bow. Or spend some hours and build a simple psalter, works better than using a guitar and have the rosin on you strings. Or just a one string simple Diddley bow. Simple to build and to play. If you add effects and delay and echo, they all sound similar :-)
I really appreciate your demo of the pickaso since you are not affiliated with the pickaso company. I have been wanting one of these for some time. What many of the other demos miss is that the pickaso is not just a took but also a technique that has to be practiced. It requires learning to bow. It really has a very specific use. I would imagine that using it like a cello would be very helpful in a small acoustic band.
Thank you for doing a down to earth review! Yeah using a bow (took online violin lessons) is not a trivial thing. It is a huge deal when learning to play the fiddle / violin and a significant part of beginner learning. So no surprise this takes a while to get skilled at.
Sounds brilliant.👍🏻🎸 I can't wait to try this..im still learning the bow to my Strat..its difficult even with the rosin I rubbed on it. I don't know how Eddie Philips and Jimmy page did it😂 cheers mate
Hey Mr Dabbler, .. just one of these, myself .. (Santa's quite a guy) .. I did purchase some flat wound strings (never have owned any before) .. to see if that improved things. And it may have, .. to a degree. Not only the bowing .. but, my fingering, too .. seems like I drag my fingers on strings, more .. when playing a bow. If I would have waited a few months (with regular practice, of course) .. before changing to these flatwounds, would have made for a better comparison, though.
Thank you for starting the vid with the bow playable. Looks like I need 3x more rosin cause mine isn't grabbing the lower strings quite yet. (all steal strings).
Nice demo ! Thank you for it ! It gives a better idea of what it is. I tried to make mine with wood and real bow horsehair. Not so bad but it s hard to have a good tension... Im still processing to know if I ll buy it cause it's very expensive for the moment. If it would be 40-50$ that would be affordable in my point of view.
I have had one for a few weeks now, still some learning to do... But I have also expreienced that quality of guitar makes a difference. My Epiphone jumbo sounds good with picks/fingers, but sounds really metallic and unpleasant with the bow... but on the other hand, my Taylor GSmini sounds almost like a cello with the low strings. Next is to add all the effects, I think that would be the coolest use out of these
Got one for X-Mas. So far... it's good for looping and especially for bass loops. The lower (thicker) strings have a nicer sound for beginners (for me at least). Great tips on the reverb! cheers
Great video! Just got mine. Have you been able to play long notes and legatos with the bow yet? Would love you hear your thoughts / walkthrough on that. Cheers.
Way more effort than it is worth to get this thing to sound good. Just got one for Christmas. If I had paid for it, it would be going back. It's like learning a new instrument. Just get yourself a violin.
I have not had any issues. But I do use a blower to clean out the inside of my guitar from time to time. I have a battery air duster similar to this that I use to clean all around the house and on my electronics. amzn.to/446JVy3 works great.
As a violinist. I find this laughable . 80 dollars? You can get a used violin for that. I also play the guitar. I don't want this messing up the guitar strings.
Any recommendations for a quality $80 violin? I’m a 19 year guitarist and love to dabble in other stringed instruments. I’ve bought $80 violins secondhand before and so far I’ve not found anything that isn’t garbage. I understand technique is a part of it, but I’m talking about violins that don’t hold string tension at all and have other issues aside from just general sound.
Thumbs un for the "unboxing"
Your video helped convince me to buy one, so thanks! Still getting to grips with it but I just uploaded a video to show what I've managed so far!

I just got mine and love the possibilities. Good review
Ordered one , because of you!…..well without lots of pedal tweaking it is a gimmick.

Spot on. Just got it and yeah its gonna take practice.

Thanks for the honest review. Been curious about this for some time. That reverb is something else tho haha
I love it. I have practiced with it more and its a cool tool. Especially with all that reverb. I use it at church with How he loves.

Definitely sounds way better in the commercials.
I wish they made it twice as long for longer bow strokes
They did just come out with a slightly longer version. I have not got my hands on it yet.
There is an alternative called "Guitar Hu" which is considerably bigger and costs about the same
Thank you for starting the vid with the bow playable. Looks like I need 3x more rosin cause mine isn't grabbing the lower strings quite yet. (all steal strings).
That was a really nice intro!
Thank you for the review.
Wow, this is super cool Mitch!

See it first time today! But interesting!

Definitely something that needs some practice to use, but isn't that was playing guitar is all about?

Sounds amazing

what i must to do if i want to combine?fingerpicking and bow is it possible?
Do you know of any actual tutorials for this? I feel like the company should’ve made at least a couple videos.

maybe. I have enjoyed mine. It is like learning a new instrument but fun and you can get some unique sounds from it.
What about the rosin dust inside he guitar. Is that an issue?

I thought about that but I seems I would just be blowing the dust around inside. Thanks for the reply/
Led zeppelin was doing this in the 70s
What material is bow made out of?
The bow strings is synthetic.
Amazing, but it looks pornogrphic😂
HAHA. When I first got it and started playing with it, I was like So Many Jokes. Must resist.

I sense your fear of losing gigs replaced by a guitarist playing your parts 😂
I have one of these. It takes a lot of practice. A guitarist has to start to think like a violinist.
