As a long-time skier, ski writer and publisher of a regional ski magazine, I have been to North America's biggest and best known ski resorts too many times to keep track. So, is my favorite ski area in the Rockies or Sierras? No, I bought an old miner's house in the Michigan Upper Peninsula snowbelt and now spend my winters skiing at Big Powderhorn and Indianhead. Tons of real powder as good as out West, short lift lines, a season pass for the cost of two or three days at Vail or Aspen, friendly Yoopers, great food at reasonable prices.
I feel like u can’t be serious. I just looked up big powerhorn and skiing from top to bottom can’t take longer then 60 seconds. I'd add another Canadian hill, having been to Steven's pass, Crystal and Copper. Either Fernie or Kicking Horse or lake Louise. Whistler is risky because of the bad weather that socks you in for days of wet cement. I wouldn't book it too far in advance. Revelstoke is a sure bet, watch out for the tree wells as it is very dangerous in that regard.

@@jazzijonj2310 you are either not too good of a skier/boarder or have have never ridden the peak or Headwaters area at Big Sky. That’s Nothing to be ashamed of. I’ve been to Jackson Hole, Snowbird, Whistler, and many other places. Big Sky’s alpine is as good or better than any of the names I’ve mentioned. I’ve had private expert guides take me places all over all of the mountains I’ve mentioned, and Big Sky is no joke. The Big Couloir, Marx, Lenin, Dictactor chutes, and Headwaters area are freakin legit.
For the resorts close to Denver, Summit County and so on, you nailed it! Keystone is my Jam! I LOVE that place great mountain and a great local, non touristy vibe! I pass Breck 9-10 times just to hit up Keystone.
Awesome that you mentioned stevens that’s my home mountain
Love stevens! How’s your season?
@@SnowboardProCamp it’s been great, they just opened up the backside. Hope to see you there this year🤙🏼
As a born and raised Washington native I’m happy to see 3 places from here in the list! Mt. Baker is the first place I ever snowboarded at 11ish years ago, and I recently started going again but to Snoqualmie pass… I’m excited to explore other WA locations as I get better
I usually love you guys’ content, but how do you do a “best resorts” list without a Utah resort? Colorado and Utah have arguably the best snow in the world
Because Utah hates Snowboards!!! (*Just Alta and Deer valley)
Nah the coastal mountain ranges get more powder like mt baker wa.
@@DontUputThatEvilOnMe more snow doesn’t mean best snow. Utah always has 3 out of top 5 resorts on snow score throughout the world
@@WatchTower71 are you talking about powder days? Usually just needs to be cold for that. Not sure how Jackson Hole and the Teton area would differ it’s always powder there, because it so cold. It rarely ever gets above freezing on their runs.
@@DontUputThatEvilOnMe it talks about the science behind it. I think my link didn’t go through but search for Utah Goldilocks storms. It explains why we have the best snow. My point tho is that, even if you believe we don’t, Utah is still the most popular ski state in North America.
My baker is def one of my tops. I like bachelor too but baker reminds me of bachelor but a lot less snobby.
I get a snobby feel from my bachelor!
Baker is amazing!
@@SnowboardProCamp it truly is. I will ride there again soon. May this next coming up season. I’d also like to try crystal mountain. I’m a powder hound!
awesome Vid! as a east coaster, Whistler has been my go to for 20 years. You have to choose wisely when you can only take a trip a year out west.. once Covid ruined travel we went to Alyeska last year and I loved It. Alaska all together was just Mind blowing but Alyeska is deffinity a special place.. and for sure I will return...
Sick. So jealeous! Currently living the vanlife and snowboarding in Levi, Finland!
Super great video. Hoping to hit some mountains in Washington after watching this. Curious though, where would NorthStar place in your top resorts? That’s my home mountain and I think they have an incredible terrain park. Hope to run into you again sometime too!
Maybe it will be a top 10 once I experience the full park!
Hit Baker! A hidden gem indeed.
Could you make a list of
Top eastern northamerica mountains you have done?
Stevens was really rough last year. They struggled getting chairs up, super understaffed. The staff there are awesome but they get paid nothing and asked to do too much.
So far this year everything looks good, all lifts on the frontside are open
It wasn’t always like this… I think it’s mainly ever since Vail resorts bought Steven’s Pass that it went downhill
@@Haramer no it didn’t we had one rough year. Stevens is running in amazing shape this year and things are getting better. I’ve been skiing stevens for 27 years.
IMO, Keystone is alright, but gets very crowded, and I personally prefer resorts like Copper, Loveland, Wolf Creek, and Purgatory (My home mountain).
Keystone is only good during the week, specifically non-SpringBreak midweeks. On weekends, the crowd on the front side is insane. Just like Breck
How are you living in Reno and “recently discover” Palisades? The terrain is endless, especially the challenging terrain
Mt Cain on Vancouver Island is a hidden gem but my favorite hill is Powder King in northern BC
How do you have Keystone. But not Breck Vail Beaver or Telluride? Or even A Basin? Keystone is like last on my list in CO
live 30 mins from stevens love hitting the tree runs on the weekends
top 5 east coast? Ik it sucks around here but not sure where to try
I had a greta trip to Banff, boarding at Sunshine Village with great pow almost for the whole 2 weeks, but I'm in UK so most riding in Europe. I love Mayrehofen & if you're feeling rich, Zermatt for the scenery is 2nd to none. I want to go with my son to US maybe next season as he's never been in really deep pow & is an excellent skiers (he's my main off-piste buddy) & we 'd love to get a guide for some dip back country stuff. Of all your choices, what woo ou recommend for a 2 weeks trip? Cheers, Neil
Utah didn't even get on the list heh
My favorite resort out west is snowbasin Utah and on the east coast mount snow or stow in Vermont
What would u rate the aspen mountains at?
I like the transition at 3:57, smooth
I'm suprised alta and snowbird aren't included in this list.
@@Ephesians2.8-9 Ah yes, I forgot.
I went to Revelstoke for the first time last year, it was so great I'm going again this year.
Love Revelstoke as well! Have fun!
The big one for me is Silverton Mountain Ski Area, CO. Also I like Kirkwood over Palisades for top of Tahoe. Snowbird, Steamboat, Telluride are musts.
Stevens pass is the best! I’m riding Stevens this whole month, the only part that sucks for snowboarders is the “slow poke” run. The name explains it.
Thank you from Mammoth Lakes Ca . Having a great season so far this year
would really love to se you head up to Banff! reckon it would make a great vid.
He should probably wait for more snow, we've been a bit unlucky thus far and are rather bare right now. Lake Louise hasn't opened half of their terrain.
Sooooo touristy though 😩
Mammoth is my home mountain. It'd amazing and It's got an awesome apres canyon lodge party now (starting 12/23 through spring) it's an absolute rager. It started in 2019 but last year truly evolved into something epic.
I agree with your list as much as I love mammoth whistler is best. It's like putting a mammoth mountain on top of mammoth, that's how big it is. As an ikon pass holder I was so bummed when vail bought it.
For ikon, aspen snowmass is my favorites. Have you been there Kevin?
You gotta check out mountain creek in New Jersey! It’s honestly one of the best resorts I’ve ever been to.
LOL
Seriously?
When ive been ro whistler, it was difficult to see powder because of too many people. If i go to revelstoke or bakers, do i have easy access to the powder,
Curious why no Oregon mountains? I’ve always wanted to visit Hood. You really think stevens is better than timberline?
Timberline is pretty flat. It’s mostly known for its summer snow season.
Timberline is great in the summer! Kind of a unique place. Timberline in the winter is top 25 for sure
Yes, Timberflats we call it. Meadows has Stevens beat when they have the snowpack though
A better title would be the "Best resorts in the Sierra and Cascades"... less Keystone and Jackson. I've skied them all but the Alyeska and Stevens Pass you listed. To leave out locations like Vail, Big Sky, Telluride, Alta/Snowbird is criminal. Still a good video. Thanks!
Should come play in Montana.... amazing snow this season
Blue mountain, Ontario! Crazy powder there!
Surprising to see so many resorts in Washington
Washington is underrated
Imagine not having a wasatch resort on the list
I am 100% in agreement with you! This guy is delusional at best! Utah has some of the best skiing in the World , hands down ! Canada is completely inferior in so many ways to Utah, Tahoe and Colorado , especially elevation and powder! Hands down folks! Think Wolf Creek Ski Resort for 500 inches annually ….Colorado
Definitely should check out some of the places in Utah or Tahoe. All of them fantastic!
sounds like you need to visit jackson again
If you want pure steep powder riding I would say go to revelstoke I’m going back start of January and the town makes it even more sick such a good vibe
Big Sky MT should be up there.
Need to check it out! Have heard good things
Top ten for sure
Wow 3rd place. I love mammoth. great vibes I agree.
Bro right now I live in Sedro Woolly, Washington by Mt. Baker and its my first time snowboarding ever and I'm doing ski bus.
How about a list overseas destinations (Japan, Europe, Australia, Chile, and places the rest of us might totally overlook)?
I'd add another Canadian hill, having been to Steven's pass, Crystal and Copper. Either Fernie or Kicking Horse or lake Louise. Whistler is risky because of the bad weather that socks you in for days of wet cement. I wouldn't book it too far in advance. Revelstoke is a sure bet, watch out for the tree wells as it is very dangerous in that regard.
Love how all my home mountains are on this list. Stevens, Crystal, Baker, Whistler, and where I learned to ride, Alyeska. Nice picks. Recommend hidden gem for you… Check out 49 degrees North and thank me later.
I learned to snowboard at alyeska & spent my first season there. 😍 but now I’m struggling for my life out here on this Midwest ice. 😢
that’s awesome crystal and stevens made it i love riding at stevens lol
Would love to go to Whistler someday and ride a lap with you, Mathias and Chris! Our family favorite for now is Prapoutel in France.
Come to purgatory it’s got a sick park with a half pipe and tons of trails with fun side trails
You should come to mount rose ski resort it has a nice array of chutes and it had a lot of different runs some with really nice views of Tahoe and Reno Nv
