Thank you so much for your vid. Im just getting started with my university and everything is *just reading* so i really hope i focuse more on the text books and do better this semester. Maybe after this semester i'll comeback to reafirm and share some few straps ab my experience
1. You might need glasses. 2. You might need enough lighting. 3. Your eyes might be dry. 4. Need a bit tiny of distraction. (Like listening to calming music like lofi and not the songs you're usually listening to bc it can distract you if you have adhd like me) 5. Drink water to stay hydrated while reading. 6. You might be tired (8hrs is enough)
I think one way to decrease falling asleep while reading would be to have a notepad and pencil next to you and write down all the words you don't understand completely, make summaries of the chapters, write any ideas that are stirred by what you have read, etc. anything you can think of that equals active engagement with the material. I think what keeps me involved with youtube or podcasts is that while listening I can go to google and get additional information or verify what is being talked about. Reading a book doesn't have this immediate engagement so my notepad/pencil technique would be a way of creating it, recording voice notes would be another less mechanical way and more immediate. And all of the items listed (even the listing words I really do not know the meaning of despite being a college educated native english speaker reading material written in English!) have all helped me be more engaged. It also usually means I am sitting up at a table or desk and not slouched in bed against a pillow (something about that just feels like less oxygen is getting to my brain, but I have no means of testing that). I like the ideas of looking away from the page, drinking water and having some background sound going. Feels like those would be really effective. Also, I had never even thought about lighting, but when I think about it now, it makes perfect sense. Thanks for making this little video and Happy Reading!
Wow thanks for such an in-depth comment. I really like you're suggestions. I almost do some of this because I write notes while reading so I can put together reviews and it probably does help keep me awake!
Lots of great reminders! Another big one for me, especially if I’m reading for long periods, is to change up my reading location from time to time. So I’ll read on the couch for a while, move to the balcony when I’m noticing myself getting distracted, and maybe read in the park for a complete refresh! Definitely helps me read a lot more in the day. Also, switching up what I’m reading, especially if I’m trying to get through a more dense book can help keep my mind engaged and focused longer.
Something that works for me is to change it up so I'm reading in different environments! If I'm reading in my bedroom, that's the place that my brain associates with sleep, so even if I'm not tired my brain will still think that I am and I'll end up wanting to nap more than I want to keep reading (the opposite goes for if you have trouble sleeping; maybe take as many distractions - like games, TVs, etc. - out of your bedroom as you can so that your brain can see the room as one purely meant for sleeping instead of entertainment mediums).
Ohhh yes that's so true. If I read in bed, I'm going to fall asleep. I used to work in the bedroom but I gave that up years ago and my sleeping schedule is so much better.
I have 84 chapters/whole books to read for uni from now till December and I managed 11 pages of a 19page chapter today before being absolutely drained.
I wish these things would help. I fall asleep reading aloud to my kids as well as when I read a book to myself. Maybe if I keep cold water nearby and some music going along with bright lights?! Or maybe I’m never not tired.
I always read in bed and on kindle so i read at night but if I fall alspeep it's either because I'm tired or not enjoying the book, but now I'm also going to be conscious and aware of the lighting and eyestrain! love thisexcellent video so much! This is an excellent video!!! so many useful tips and fascinating facts!!! thank you!
This is interesting because it's only happened a few times when I had an audible book on but not an actual physical book. My MIL always falls asleep with a book on top of her haha
Sometimes I do find myself nodding off while reading during the day. I usually take the dog out for a quick walk and that reinvigorates me. I keep meaning to read in other places too - like walk across the road and sit at a picnic table or go to a cafe.
I recommend warm, cosy rooms with soothing lights This video is great, Gina! I already love reading so much so this video was very helpful for like late night reading. Also I am stuck into my books but I keep getting distracted, this helped for that too
tip: Have someone tickle your feet while reading a true crime novel, that's a joke, and it wouldn't work because true crime novels or books about love and vampires actually stimulate the female mind so much you will not feel sleepy, fact
Greetings from Russia, Gina 🫡 I really started learning English in 2020 (with breaks from time to time and still doing it cause it helps to improve the brain). I found your video very useful and will try to use your advices in my nearest reading session Have a good night!
Do you have any extra tips? Leave them in the comments ❤️💤

Ohhh yes, if I'm doing a readathon I'll absolutely need to change where I'm reading, you're so right!
Seriously great reminders Gina! Light, temperature and hydration a classic for me, you're truly making everyone fall in love with reading again ;-)
Aw thanks Ale

Ahhh yes, I read in bed on my kindle too and I get about 10 pages in before I fall asleep
@@GinaLuciaReads ahah me too sometimes xx
Thanks for this... But then, its not just reading. If am watching a movie, i fall asleep too east except its an intensly action movie..
Getting under a blanket always gets me feeling tired!
Yep, too warm and cozy!
This is interesting because it's only happened a few times when I had an audible book on but not an actual physical book. My MIL always falls asleep with a book on top of her haha
Ohhhh yes I bet I would fall asleep during an audiobook too. Especially if I wasn't doing anything else.
Sometimes I do find myself nodding off while reading during the day. I usually take the dog out for a quick walk and that reinvigorates me. I keep meaning to read in other places too - like walk across the road and sit at a picnic table or go to a cafe.
Ohhhh yes, fresh air is a great one. Even just opening the window for a bit would probably help.
I recommend warm, cosy rooms with soothing lights

TBH I think it's because I worked all day or if I haven't reading makes me forget about anything stressful and BOOM I get sleepy.
Yes! It makes you feel all relaxed and safe, I get that
You look like skylar from Breaking Bad!
Greatings from india😎
The dry eyes, were kinda wierd
Sounds like I need reading glasses
