Most people I know (who aren't acquainted with the genre) tell me the same.. on the contrary, I get so happy and hyped up when listening to brutal death metal, so I often do so when I cook or go for a run.
@@Metalton95 Exactly, it's relaxing listening to metal. Not that the music itself is relaxing (becase usually it's intense) but it works as an outlet for relaxation.

Dave's riff under the solo is awesome though!
I liked Friedman's contributions on his album, but think Dave was wise to remove him. It was almost too much polish for the band...and I believe he was pushing to get Megadeth more into the mainstream.
@@sydhamelin1265 it's good to change mix different genres into one, the only fault of megadeth is they theyve never changed their sound.
@@maxjudge020 I'm all for mixing up a sound, as long as it's done for creative/artistic reasons. I prefer musicians who write what they want, then focus on making it popular, rather than write what they think people will like.

When I bought "Rust in Peace" in early 1991 I didn't know the monster it would became. One of the best albums in metal history, for sure. What a privilege to grow with this in my life.

I always got a chuckle at how this song starts out being about the Israel-Palestine conflict and in the middle Dave Mustaine loses interest and kind of wanders off and starts singing about the Punisher or something like that, and then at the end of the song he remembers and kind of goes back to the original subject.
I thought it’s about Northern Ireland Catholics and Protestants and the Israel reference was telling them not to be like Israel and Palestine

Great song, perfect album (treat yourself to entire thing, not a bad track on it). From their previous album So Far.. So Good.. So What is an incredible song "In My Darkest Hour" which you'll both LOVE. In My Darkest Hour in my opinion was their best early track that set their tone for the following albums of Rust In Peace and Countdown To Extinction.

I feel fortunate, as I saw the "Big 4" back in the day...Megadeth twice (in 1987 opening for Alice Cooper and on the next tour opening for Dio). I also Metallica twice (on the same tour, "...And Justice For All", with Queensryche opening), Anthrax in 1987 ("Among The Living" tour) and Slayer in Dallas in 1988 (rode in the back of a pickup to Dallas for 4 hours from Ada, Oklahoma, lol!)

My personal vote goes to Iron Maiden "Hallowed Be Thy Name". But really it all depends on your flavor of metal as to which song you would consider the best of all time.

I think holy wars are really good songs but to be called the best of all time, it feels like it's very doubtful. compared to the master of puppets, it's too far away. to be the best metal song of all time the song must have several criteria. one of them is the song riff must be strong enough to survive against time. so let's look at the riffs of the holy wars so we won't find a riff that is strong enough for metal lovers to always remember. compare with riffs from master of puppets, then we will see riffs that all metal lovers will smile and be amazed, even though from generations who don't know metallica. that's i call a timeless song ... :)
but as I said before, holy wars are indeed very good song for everyone to enjoy.
There is no such thing as a "greatest metal song of all time." Same goes for any genre. Music is entirely subjective. What you consider the greatest song someone else might think is dog shit.

People who are classically trained in music usually always like metal, or at least can appreciate the musicianship involved.
Ever since this song came out, all other thrash songs have been measured against it as the bar to beat.

Heh.. the "Go Dave" solo part at the beginning was actually Marty Friedman. :) Though Dave definitely has his own solo parts. His is a bit more chromatic or blues based. He does the really cool one after they do the galloping on the low E string.

I've seen most of the really great thrash bands live, but somehow I've never managed to get to a Megadeth show. Though I believe they always close each show with Holy Wars, and for good reason. What could top it?

Funny thing about this song is Dave wrote it because he was embarrassed at a riot he started being naive and in Ireland said this song is for the cause. He said there was a divide in the crowd between the Catholics and protestants. All hell broke loose and they had to be escorted out of Ireland in armored cars. Then the second part of the song is inspired by Frank Castle the Punisher.
I totally understand what you mean by being 10 years behind in the music. We all have our own musical journeys and we find the right music at the right time, no matter what it may be. Perhaps 10 years ago you wouldn’t have liked this stuff but now you do. It doesn’t matter when we get there, just as long as we do! Rock on! 🤘

I remember when this came out. I was stationed in Germany at the time.
My close friend Gary passed away in a most unfortunate way on May 9, 2014 when he hung himself. Asshole. Anyway, I placed an unopened collector's edition Rust In Peace CD next to his head in his coffin. Every RIP for me is Rust In Peace. One of the best thrash metal albums of all time without a doubt!

As to Rich's comment about the Metallica / Megadeth Drama I see it as Dave helped start Metallica and really got screwed over and stood up , brushed himself off and went and created another band from scratch So ....... 👏👏👏👏 Kudos to Dave Mustaine , he is a Metal God IMO 🎸 🎶
