    Best Cuban link chain I've seen!
    Hi Huss, I've watched a heck of a lot of videos on Cuban link chains and the tightness of your links make all other videos look like amateurs, not to mention the very stylish clasp.
    Thank you for sharing! Very much appreciated!

    If you stick a screwdriver in the other end link you can pull and twist that at the same time and you get a lot more leverage trying to twist until the solder joints are all in one side...

    What was the acid you put it in the beginning? Do you have to do the same with gold? I want to try and make my own necklace. I’m mechanically inclined and think I could make the links and solder no problem... would have to practice on twisting and get a roller? I would probably use a lobster clasp, just because that lock you made looked like the hardest part, and many yrs experience to make! Wow excellent craftsmanship.

      Wow I’ve never made anything out of steel but I would make it the same way just hope you can twist it the same way I’m not sure what will happen with steel but don’t doubt get it a go you will learn and pick up so much from the mistakes 🤞

      @@MadeByHuss well after spending some time in contemplation about your technique. I think after annealing the round stock which is something i do all the time and following up with your techniques without polishing. And then reheating up to critical temperature and quenching then tempering and finally polishing. Hopefully this will work i.d.k. yet as far as the twist goes if worse case ill have to do so hot instead of cold forging. Anyway beautiful work and thanks for the advice and wisdom.

    Hey huss, I decided to give this a go myself, and I was curious how the rolling mill helps the chain sit flat? I can twist the chain and over twist a little to straighten it, but it seems like it does want to unravel or hangs straight until I wiggle it a little. Could you explain what that process is to get it to stay straight?

    • @MadeByHuss
      @MadeByHuss  3 года назад +1

      I try in the video I found that when it happened to me i had to start again what work best for me is to have the links tight together and when i twist the links I have to pull that the same time you don"t have to use the mills it can be taped flat to with a hammer so don't worry about over twisting it someone made a comment about hanging a wight on the end to pull it down then to twist it but i haven't try it yet hope this helps best of luck

    But I still got a question ; I never see anybody filing or sanding the chains after soldering right before twisting it. So I wondered … I see it’s not necessary in your video so I assume that you have to use a little as possible of “solder” to fill the gap and on what position you want to have the soldered seams?

    Hi, Thank you for making this video. It has really helped me. I made the Cuban link chain and after a few tries I managed to get it straight. However what are the qualities of a well made chain? Also if I hold the chain from either end and twist it so that the chain spirals. Then I let go of one end should the chain automatically re-twist so that is is straight again. Because with my chain I have to run my fingers down the links to get it straight when I do this?

      I know when the chain hangs it need to be straight and this is hard to do with me it helps to have the links tight together with not to much gap and I think when you are making the links it needs to be pulled hard and twist because we do this by hand it makes it very hard to do

    Is it just implied that they file Down the opposite side of the Cuban link? I never see any person do that in there videos

    • @MadeByHuss
      @MadeByHuss  4 года назад

      KYVYN Mhh you don’t have to you can do it the way you want it’s your work but I feel most Cuban links are done that way as for the videos I think they just want to keep the video short if you get the chance to do it you’ll see doing one side will just look ugly help this helps

    How you choose the rod size on which the wire is wrapped

    • @MadeByHuss
      @MadeByHuss  3 года назад

      Twice the size of the wire so when you put 3 links together the 2 links can go through the one in the middle.

      MadeByHuss for the twisting on some other channels it looks like they just put one end in the vice and hold the other end with a vice grips or so and then when they twist all the links just go together , why does it look so difficult for you

    • @MadeByHuss
      @MadeByHuss  4 года назад

      Laura WH yes your right I know but to twist all the chain at once is difficult and you have to pull it too I don’t think they do this by hand I’m sure they have a tool to do this and they don’t show you how

    What kind of sterling silver wire is it? Is it like half hard? Dead soft?

    • @kathybradbury
      @kathybradbury 3 года назад +1

      It doesn’t matter, because you’ll need to anneal it a few times during the process anyway. Dead soft will work harden after making links, as will half hard

    Man to get this chain straight is so annoying I hate that process do you have any tips on the straightening process, I have a mill and a vice I just can’t get the damn thing straight

      Also using round links

    • @MadeByHuss
      @MadeByHuss  4 года назад +1

      Sanjeev Basi yes I know very stressful the chain needs to be pulled very hard when turning the links some have a device to do this I don’t have one may be if you get some else to pulled it all so I think oval think are better for that you can try a sample like 3-4 inches just to try out and keep your links tight not to much gap best of luck
