Always nice to see a relatively "old" property being so well maintained/updated, especially considering the challenging environment in which it is located. I feel like resorts often fail to keep neat grounds when surrounded by such untamed nature or tend to overdo and give an artificial atmosphere to the property. Anyway, thank you for your video. Brilliant as always!
Looking at the reviews on trip advisor I don't think Kevin's experience is indicative of the average guests. By the sounds of it the standard rooms are small and extremely tired. I reckon they saw him filming and upgraded him. Especially consider that he booked a standard room, but then got upgraded 5 categories to the second best villa on offer!😂
@jbennison5672 I think it goes without saying that I don’t film before checking in. As I specifically mentioned in the video, I was upgraded since it was an upgradable rate that I booked through Expedia VIP. I get upgrades through that program all of the time.
Wow...what a nice surprise to see such an extensive review on one of my all-time favourite hotels! I stayed here almost 20 years ago and it's so good to hear that it is still impressive and that the facilities are still so very well maintained. We stayed in one of the villas on the edge of the cliff (just a few minutes away from the pool) and it was magnificent. The service was great; definitely not in your face, and it was a relaxed atmosphere throughout. A really nice reminder of a wonderful hotel and location. Thanks, Kevin!
I stayed at this property about 4 years ago and it was just as serene and beautiful as it appears here. There were certainly more guests and LOTS more monkeys (seeing a hairy hand reach for my sandwich next to the pool was funny!) but the feel of the property, especially the wonderful staff, makes this one of my favorite hotels in the world.
Overlooked this property my last visit. It's so hard to choose though! Guess I have to return now lol Ubud is the most beautiful place in the world, even just sitting in a car getting from one spot to another, those winding roads, passing by the villages/scenery- Everything is picturesque. This Alila's design really complements the surrounding natural beauty. Truly timeless.
Gotta say I love the tour with the sound of the environment and music but the narration elevates it even more. Telling the history of Hyatt and this hotel is also a + for me. I subscribed and loved your video! For sure I’ll be sitting for the next 2-3 hours watching more reviews
I am finally going on my long delayed honeymoon to Bali in about 2 weeks, and we are staying at this hotel for 4 days! Awesome video. We are also flying Jetstar Asia from SIN to DPS so excited for that video too. Thanks!
Reminds me of my stay at Bingin Beach when I innocently left the balcony door open while I popped out for breakfast. Returned to find the room had been ransacked by monkeys. Footprints everywhere. They even managed to remove the screw top from a bottle of Jameson’s and consume the contents. Lesson learned!
Hi Kevin, surely seeing your hard work on the editing. Very detailed and catching glimpse at each corner as much as you can. I was thinking the video maybe too long. Around 15 mins is good to have the audience stay till the end.
Understand your point, but the property decides the length, not me 😊 If I cut 6 minutes off this video, you’d miss 20% of the resort! Thanks for watching 🙏🏻
Another fantastic review Kevin. Your videography is super and the soundtrack is ideal. I love the ambient sounds. You are correct about the macaques and I was bitten by one in that very same monkey forest, minutes softer. The monkey guardian telling me they were totally safe and friendly. I have rafted past this beautiful property. I continue to dream and by lottery tickets fuelled by your videos... Thank you/ not thank you!
Nice hotel. Love the room, simple and class. I am suprise by the price of the restaurant. They do not overcharge. For example, Bebek Goreng (expensive dish usually in Indonesia), it s the same price as some restaurants in Jakarta. I hope I will be back in Bali and stay in this hotel. Thank you for the video, cheers from France.
Thank you sssso much, Kevin for this video which is without any close up selfies. Packed with details of the surrounding. 🙏🏽🙏🏽🙏🏽 and very honest comments. 🥰
Thank you for another wonderful video. Rewatching in anticipation of booking our Bali trip and have a few questions - were you upgraded due to Globalist status? And any thoughts on the Viceroy vs Alila in Ubud? We have 6 nights and I want to do 2 each at Alila Uluwatu, Andaz, and somewhere in Ubud (either Alila, Viceroy, or non-Hyatt). Saw your comment about Como Uma Ubud and will look into that as well
I was upgraded due to Expedia/hotels.com status, nothing to do with Hyatt status at all. As for the more detailed questions I’m happy to answer all of them and more on Patreon within the relevant tiers. Look forward to doing so.
I have a suggestion: could you do a walk trough of each of the properties, like when you do the edits of the scenery in your videos. BTW love your videos when I go to these places I'll try to see if I can do everything there
Greetings from NJ! Thank you for sharing your vivid travel footage and reviews! When is the dry season to travel to Ubud? As a yoga teacher, May I suggest... take a class while you're there!!🧘♂️🙏😊 Stay well ❤Nina from NJ
Love your vidios, they are well made and very informative and to the point. I have been in many places you mention however not on that level :-). You ask for a comment: Give the food a little bit more attension because in my opinion thats a big part of it all.
Thanks for an informative video. Did you make use of the complimentary shuttle to town? What month did you stay here? I'm booking for my parents for March and so excited for them!
@@tfft oh wow surprised it was so rainy in June (not a bali expert but just thought that was dry season). we're thinking of going in sept vs oct/nov. would sept be better for less rain?
Still with you, enjoy the dialogue telling the backstory of each property but not as much as l enjoyed the imagined conversation with the Monkeys 😆 you have to admit the little ones are cute 😘. I would have been very happy just with the bread basket at breakfast, all those pastries looked delicious. Am l the only person that doesn't enjoy rainfall shower heads 🤔. On the prices in Bali/ SE Asia it doesn't look to bad until you add the + or ++ as noted on the Menus of this resort being 21% something l will never understand just add it in like we do with the GST in Australia (l think lve mentioned this bug bear of mine before). Once again another great review 👍
I agree with you about the prices- but at the same time no matter where I am (as an American) my brain just automatically assumes printed prices aren’t the real prices 😂. For the rainfall shower heads, I love them… but… Only if the direction can still be moved slightly so you can “escape” it if necessary 😂 Thanks as always Vanessa 🙏🏻
This one was booked on hotels.com. In each of my videos you can see in the graphics that has the hotel’s name I list where I made the booking. Thanks for watching 🙏🏻
Oh nice! Thanks for the video, it is nice to see, so relaxing and thorough review. Love the details! Can you somehow show other types of rooms in the hotel you review? It will be nice and helpful 🙏🏻
A couple of years on, do you still rate this hotel as highly? The likes of Capella and Banyan Tree have luxury concepts in Ubud but sometimes it’s the old school ones like Alila that seem most accommodating
Hi Kevin, Looking at the menu prices please can you let me know which currency the prices are in. I thought they were in Indo Rup which came out as a 175 meal costs under a uk penny. If only. Great review. Regards Steve
I don't have the menu in front of me but they are surely in IDR. Likely they are in 1000s. If the price says 175, it means 175000. Thanks for watching 🙏🏻
I've been binge watching your channel and am wondering... how long do you typically stay in a hotel before switching to the next one? If it's 1-2 days, isn't it really annoying to constantly pack/unpack?
Yes 1-2 days max it typical for me. Don’t tell anyone, but I kinda enjoy packing and unpacking 😂. At this point I generally only travel with carry on luggage even if I’m away for a month and I enjoy finding more and more efficiencies and finding ways to reduce my baggage while still being ‘comfortable’… After I film a room first thing I do is completely unpack and setup the room, takes around 5 minutes. To repack the next day, it takes 10-12 minutes.
There was I, thinking that there's no fast-forwarding, and you immediately picked-up the pace! Yep - I'm still amused. Monkey-etiquette? Treat them all as rabies-carriers - but this lot were undeniably cute. This looked like a pretty good hotel, with a great setting. Ubud? A nice 3-day filler for a 10-day trip to Bali? P.S. I see that Malaysia has just swept away the final COVID-related annoyances for wannabe vistors. Great news.
Yupp, 3-4 days I think is the perfect amount of time up there. For Malaysia, I thought all restrictions were eased 1 May… booked my trip there later this month at that time. Either way though- yes nice to have almost all of SE Asia open and easy to get around again. Thanks for watching 🙏🏻
Hi Kevin, do you think this resort was taken over by Alila Group as the first Alila resort should be the one in Manggis near east Bali which is less than 10 years old. By the way, I noticed a few Americans pronounced Ubud wrongly, it should sound like 'U Boot' not 'U Bud'.
I’m sorry I don’t quite understand the question about the first Alila. To my knowledge the first Alila was in Jakarta with the 2nd and 3rd (Ubud and Manggis) transferred from GHM at the same time. Thanks for watching 🙏🏻
An outstanding old property that looks refreshing and new. My concern about these properties in the real jungle is how do they keep snakes, poisonous scorpions, bugs, flies, wasps, bees, red ants, the crazy monkeys away from entering one's room or the pool areas, open air restaurants. I loved the upgrade they provided you with.
The animals are part of the charm haha. I'm sure there are some behind the scenes things done to try to keep bugs away, but snakes and monkeys... it's the jungle. Nothing much can be done unless you're in a bubble! Thanks for watching 🩴
There was, but I got the feeling it wasn’t at their normal capacity yet- so might want to inquire directly about the time period that you’d plan to go. Thanks for watching 🙏🏻

It was automatically offered. The upgrade was from my hotels.com Gold Status. Certain ‘VIP’ properties (this being one of them) are eligible for upgrade, early checkin, late checkout + one other perk (I believe it was 25% off F&B here). The same would be available for Expedia VIP members (owner of hotels.com). Thanks for watching 🙏🏻

I seem to remember that there is another beautiful pool further down in the valley...A bit of a walk but one of the best parts of the resort.
A different resort perhaps? The primary pool shown in this video is pretty much on a cliff, walking down into the valley isn't really possible.
Yes sorry the Maya resort...Also nice

The Alila isn’t half bad but I’d say the Como Uma Ubud in a Cliff pool villa would be my top choice.
