I was towed by Phil once at Thunder Mountain Bike Park and he is to say the least a DH racer with the grace of a dirt jumper, he could spot lines and gather pop from seemingly nowhere, he had the ability to float thru the trail on both dirt and in the air. I don't think he realizes how skilled he actually is.
Considering its a ~45-50hr non stop drive from my house on the east coast of the US, flying is the the best way to get there. Just the airport travel time from Burlington Vermont to Vancouver with one stop ranges from 7hrs to 20hrs and costs $800-1100. If I used the town i used to live France (Blagnac) the travel time ranges anyway from 13hrs to 24hrs and costs $600-1100. So yes, that's certainly a little better for Americans, whistler isn't exactly close for a lot of Americans either. Obviously if you live in a city with a direct flight like Pittsburgh PA or Charlotte NC things will be a bit easier.
@@SkillsWithPhil Ever since I moved away from Atlanta, GA I found it hard to get a decent nonstop flight to other countries for obvious reasons. I feel you
@@manuabecassis I was 9 years old at the time, and my dad worked in the aerospace industry (but not for airbus). A little fun fact, the A380, was built on the land where I used to have BMX race practice.
Footage ON POINT! Check. Riding is RIDICULOUS. Check. Edit is SICK. Check. This should IMMEDIATELY be at the top on Pinkbike for the Whistler recap videos. That's as good of a view of the trails as I've EVER seen at Whistler. I could see every feature you rode, nothing was blown out, and you were plenty close enough for me to see the riders in front when you when trailing someone. I sound like the ultimate fan boy when I watch your videos, but man...they're the best out there IMO. I love how you just casually ran into some shredders named "Tanner and his brother," and they were throwing style right up there with the likes of Fairclough!! That knack-knack was the best hit on the entire video! The fact that you just jump in with those top Pros, and ride right alongside them, solidifies that watching your videos is like watching the top Pro's ride what you're riding. There is absolutely a place for what so many other RUclipsrs are doing out there, and no slight intended toward them, but I just so happen to love watching your videos the best, because you do things on a bike that I could never do, which makes it captivating POV. The tree bonk? Really? Nope. That was insane at that speed and commitment. Not even sure how to quantify the risk and skill needed for that move, which was evidence by the dude behind you who was obviously extremely impressed as well. I could watch this video over and over...it's that good, and lately it has been Whistler after Whistler video to the point of near boredom. Did you save this for last as a courtesy so everyone else would watch the others' videos first? :-) As far as I'm concerned, you saved the best for last! NAILED IT!
That's honestly the nicest comment I've gotten in a long time. Thank you Will, I'd love to see more comments like this. The footage I have for the next video is even more exciting!
Phil: These guys are such hard hitters and ride so much faster than the people I normally ride with. also Phil: Does a wheelie after a jump while everyone else doesn't
Survivng the riding is key. I'm at almost 40 Whistler park days this season, and the number of riders who we've lost to injury this season has dropped our numbers significantly. It's not an easy sport, that's for sure.
It gave me chills in a good way when you tire tapped that tree and the guy behind you started laughing. That whole run was awesome and you mentioned it but the guy in front of you has such a sick riding style.
I must say your camera angle is spot on. The way you have it attached to the helmet has that chest mount gimbal feel but with a better pov angle than what you get from chest mount. Also great riding!
I really like this video, thank you. Anyone can ride the smooth man-made sections of any trail centre, but the more natural sections, and steep rocky bits, really do look like a massive challenge to your skills.
Dude Phil! I love your videos! This has to be one of the coolest ones yet. I’ve seen all these trails so many times, but watching your perspective makes them even better! Also, what is up with the cliffhanger?? Haha hope you are good and can’t wait for the next one.
Dude, seriously!!! I love MTB riding, but, I crash so much like the clumsy bastard that I am. you make it look so easy and effortless! I'm gonna just keep watching your "skills vids" and praying to apply your knowledge to the trails.
Great video Phil. You really make these trails look easy lol. What pressures do you run in your suspension and tires? Do you have a video about your suspension setup on this bike?
It's not a huge park or downhill, but Yudicky in Nashua is very fun if you're ever in the area. Wasserman in Merrimack (NH) isn't bad either. All kinds in the area, like Horse Hill (Merrimack, NH), Mine Falls, etc.
Love your vids and your unique line choice. A thought for you, the sound of tires running on terrain is much better and more intriguing than any background music and I'd be more inclined to watch your vids because you've got skills! What kind of hip pack do you like? Peaz!
I still think the optional (to the left) steep rock roll on Duffman which shoots you directly into a stump is pretty unnerving. Super short, just not a lot of runout. I still haven't seen anyone ever ride the optional wood features on lower Clown Shoes. They are trials-style for sure: spaced ladder step downs. Not maintained anymore, but they're still there! I hope you got to ride some of these!
It's pronounced Fair-cluff [with or without the rolled American R ha ha!] speaking of pronunciation, the way I say your mate's name is Paw-tuh [with no aah] cool video, I like seeing you hit the rugged 'bony' stuff 12:18
Phil, you made these look easy! To everyone watching: they're a lot scarier than they look here!
Phil smashing DH lines on his enduro bike like it was nothing!

Dirt Merchant is much bigger than I expected it to be. I watched a ton of videos, and the step up still made me nervous as I came into it.
I would have hit 7 trees within the first minute 🌲
They look pretty damn scary here...
That turned out awesome, nice work Phil!! So much fun riding with you in Whistler, never have enough time there!!!
That transition just made it look like those guys disappeared 16:11
No editing, they just used the wizarding skills a dissaperated right in front of me!😂
@@SkillsWithPhil That's why that part of the trail is scary...Ghosts!
That was the coolest transition I've ever seen
Reminds me Initial D :D
WTF glitch in the matrix
After the “GoPro effect” I just discovered the “Phil effect”, make everything smoother and easier than real life 😅 nice video 🔥
Phil tapped that tree so hard it got a spot on SharkTank to get funding for its maple syrup startup.
Redding Shelby 😂😂😂
So specifically funny 😂
Imagine having Brendan Fairclough, ( or any of those riders ), as your tow-in on a run !! I'll just break my legs with a hammer and save time.
More like my collarbone but that’s just me lol
Americans: "Going to Whistler is my dream! But it is so far!"
Europeans: "Oh, really?"

Phil I just can't get over how you can make crazy stuff look so smooooooooth!!! The roller at 6:37 was pretty sweet ;-)
Confidence , skills with Phil and plenty of riding its what it takes . Great video 🤘
So true dude!

Phil and Jeff KW are the smoothest riders out here on the youtubes.
Attack the trail. Don't be along for the ride.
Knew that but needed the reminder/mental note.
Great riding as always!
What a Fantastic Vid! and doing a couple of laps with the Bren Dog must have been amazing!
I swear Phil hums this music in his head while riding and it gives him extra confidence and flow.
Sick video got some gnarly rock rolls for sure! Thanks for putting me in the video🤘
You were so fully matching bren dog, blake etc on that 'warm up' run and seemed to hit the hip way higher
Honestly, you are a great rider. I am amazed every time i watch a video of yours
Best part of the video was when the kid noticed you while in mid air on the hip jump. 😂
Brendog, Blake Samson, Ben Deakins.
I'm legit jealous :D
Awesome riding!

"Warm up lap" killin me smalls. Phil - your content is awesome, keep up the good work.
glad phil does yt. top 3 mtb youtubers hands down. love the vids
Dude...that was such a great video...like one of the best I have seen even with the corrupt footy. That tree tap was insane!!!!
So awesome watching pretty much the best in the business all riding together!! Awesome video phill!! Cant wait to see more from you man🤘
Ayeee a shred with Deaks and The Dog !! Love the colab 3 of my favourite riders Phil Brendog and Deaks!!
loving the little camera transitions you've done, some serious editing time and effort is obvious and it paid off! Sick ass video phil 👊🏼
Sick! Phil can still roll with the big boys! Great vid. I hope you do a race again
The ride is good for sure but the edit on this video is amazing!! Good job!!
That tire tap was NASTYYY, bet that got the HR up lol
You got so nice videos phil! And you are such a good rider!
Riding with Brendan and Blake 👍 that’s one hell of a pair of teachers right there
The progression of your videos has been rad. Nice work dude.
I am glad you are making videos again! Missed watching!
Awesome video phil! Love the tech!

Sick, such a great point that you and Eric shared (don’t be a passenger on your bike/ ride with an aggressive approach). Tamed a bit!! Cheers!!!
Phil has such a fun style of riding to watch!
Blake in tha house!!! Awesome vid mate! 👊😀

You have some major skills! It's cool to see GMBN guys on here too
I love these vlog type videos!
Keep em comming
sick lines and sick footage! amazing stuff!
Sick riding Phil!
3:46 DID YOU TAP A TREE???? jeeezus
You can see it in Ben Deakin's channel
What a great episode! Thanks Phil ;)
Sweet riding. You make that look easy.
Great video! I think the scariest part is how easy videos make this look and then you go try it in person before realizing you are in over your head
Just bought my first dh bike at 27. Been busy but looking forward to getting out and riding after watching your vids for 3 days straight.
Sweet. I've been waiting on a video from Phil, cause Phil got skillz. Nobody rides like he does. Keep it up now that cooler temps are on their way.
It's always summer somewhere! 😉
That will always be true. I just prefer fall riding to the summer. Thanks for the reply and keep the awesome content streaming.
omg the Brendog follow-cam is soooooo good

Brendan fairclough! That guy is a sick rider!
Unbelievable.... Such an awesome video!
16:40
Kid: Is that Phill Kmetz?
Phil: Shouldn't you be looking at the trail?
Watching you ride is as satisfying as peeling a protective cover off a screen !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Always nailing those gnarly features!
Great video and wonderful, cool music. Top stuff as usual, well done Phil. Ciao Gaetano
Thanks GR!
Whoa dude those narrow tree line at 4:50 is sweet... love how I can hear everyone's Ooooos and Ahhhha and giggles of joy!
rad! absolutely sending it! i can only dream of going there and riding like you XD
I think the guy at 15:29 said “are you Phil?” Lol
Glad you got my boy Dakotah Norton in there, use to ride BMX with him back in Michigan years ago. Really dope guy!
That tyre tap off the tree was mental!!!
Great video Phil. You really make these trails look easy lol. What pressures do you run in your suspension and tires? Do you have a video about your suspension setup on this bike?
Have not been to a bike park yet. Don’t like waiting in line. Looks like fun. Great video as usual.
Respect man 👊 Some of that stuff is utterly terrifying. Maybe in another lifetime for me...
Love ur videos. Keep them coming

Your vids are the best Phil
Got a flat.
We're going anyway!
Yeww!
Here comes Phil with Skills! You're the best! :)
This is SICK Phil!
Sick day 2 video! Thanks for sharing
I want to see the follow cam of you doing that tree tap!
16:10 - 16:13 - those two kids disappeared.
WTF? That looks crazy. Great edit, or cool ghosts, either way, Wow.
The part at 16:12 kind of mind blew me! I had to go back and rewatch it lmao! I was wtf did those other guys go! they just disappeared!
same lmao
3:38 over and over again. "Drools profusely".
Hanging with heavyweights bro🤘
Phil definitely has the skills!
loved this video , have ridden some of these lines and what you said about full confidence is spot on
Neil Tilley yeah that’s the key!
How your bike can still alive after that omg.👍👍👍👍
Talk about heavy hitters, damn. What a crew.

I've been saying propper for a long time, though my use of legend, and quality has certainty increased.
Phill your the best man, so smooth! Cheers from Burke, VT!
Hehe, the "warm up lap" with Ben Deakin, Brendog and Blake Samson is hitting dirt merchant harder than most people ever will haha.
Old school GT colors. Nice 👍🤘🏾
Can't wait tell the 2 and 3 video
Quality Content! I felt like I was watching a 40 min video
Awesome video Phil
Still laughing, cause I saw Blake from GMBN the other day, saying something like: “These guys are too much for a warm-up!“ 😂😂😂
I cant get enough Whistler, hope to some day get chance to ride there 🤙 Great vid like always 💎💎
Nice cliffhanger at the end :D
Damn dude, if it looks this gnarly on video, I can only imagine what it's like irl lol... You're a boss
After watching this video is has truly shown me how much smaller the Go Pro makes jumps and downhill sections look. Nice work !
