But what about the problem of the GoPro Hypersmooth not working with the low shutter speeds of 1/50 or 1/60 sec which are required for the 180° rule of shutter? I'm surprised this hasn’t been mentioned in the video or in the comments so far. My personal workaround to this problem is to use my GoPro with my ND16 filter on sunny days but to leave the exposure on Auto exposure. That way the shutter speed reduces a bit to give some degree of noticeable motion blur (albeit not the proper full amount) but without compromising the Hypersmooth which is so important.
@@gsgcarreviews There are gimbal car mounts but if you do quick clips of those shots in your edits I wouldn’t worry about it. I used to shoot with a gimbal on my NSX but it was pretty bulky and time consuming to get just right. With a quick edit it’s hard to tell.

What about the fact that you can’t use Hypersmooth? I can’t find a practical use for ND filters on this camera. Any advice? Seems like it’s only for FPV drone pilots, or Vloggers with their cameras on a tripod.
If you want your photos and videos to show proper motion (cinematic), then you need ND filters. To keep hypersmooth, you bypass the GoPro software and use a gimbal which does the same exact thing, just mechanically. Several videos show it working perfectly together.. I know this comment was forever go though and everyone has already long since figured this out.
When these filters are mounted, is the GoPro still waterproof ?? will there be fogging or will there be water between the lens and your mounted filter, if used in watersports..
Hey Akos! After reviewing GoPro's website, it states that the the HERO8 Black is waterproof to 33ft (10m) with the door closed. This is true with or without our filters installed. It is recommended to periodically check behind the filter for drops or fogging if used in watersports or if the camera is submerged, since the filters are not water sealed. A water repellent can also be used on the glass of the filter if you choose. (: Feel free to reach out if you have any further questions!

Hi guys, just to know.....is there a way to set up the Gopro photo settings slower than 1/125 ??? I love the look of the photos shown on the video but those shutter speeds are not real on the Gopro photo mode. Please if somebody knows explain it.
It's true photo mode does bottom out at 1/125 shutter, however we used video mode with Protune 'on' for those shots and pulled stills from the clips. Video mode with Protune does allow lower shutter speeds dependent on the chosen framerate. We'd recommend contacting GoPro support directly for guidance on where to find those settings and how to use them. (:

Nice, luckily PolarPro answered this. Disappointing that a second set of filters is required for the media case. I’m guessing the media case and screen are going to be hard to find if the previous mic adapter is anything to go by. Hopefully GoPro gets the media case and flip screen into stores before the holidays.
How can I make sure that I’m getting the right exposure? Is there a guide included in the product? I feel like there’ll be some trial and error. On mirrorless cameras and DJI Osmo Pocket, there is a exposure meter to tell you if you’re under or over exposing.

Just for an added bit of security and piece of mind, I add a small piece of black electrical tape to the top and bottom of the filter/camera. Haven't lost one.....yet.
If I purchase this, will I have to buy a completely new set for the media mod? Or will there be a new adapter that will fit on the media mod that will work with these filters? Wondering if I should just wait. Don't want to buy now if it won't work in 3 months when media mod gets released.
Was just about to buy a set of these, 1 worry i have, is this going to work with the media mod as the lens housing seems to clip over one corner at the back of the body so looks like it will get in the way of the media mod, which is like a case that surrounds the body..... 2.. How secure are these really... just seen a review on Amazon with a guy snowboarding and his fell off, and he lost it. He's not blaming polar Pro but this stupid design of the fixed lens cover on the new Hero 8 black. This is the review... ***Edited*** First-day snowboarding with the filters the filter fell off and was lost in the snow. Super bummed on the magnets and their strength. Might work great for low action situations but this is a GoPro, it is going to get bumped and put into harsh conditions and this set up doesn't work. Don't get me wrong I love anything with magnets but the first day out I almost lost a filter fishing because I bumped it and it fell off. Thanks for reaching out (: The filters are meant to be easily installed and removed by hand, and this does mean they can be knocked off the HotSwap mount with enough force if hit from behind. Shy of an impact we would not anticipate their coming loose easily during an activity like snowboarding (the magnets have been tested in 60mph+ winds), however if a particular filter seems to be having trouble staying in place, please send a quick email to support@polarpro.com and we'll be happy to assist.
From my experience with my GoPro Hero 7 Black these ND filters will mess with your stabilization when you’re trying to do the 180 degree shutter rule while capturing video footage. Has this been fixed on the GoPro Hero 8?

Also just asking is there anyway you can possibly make the magnets a tiny bit stronger as they tend to fly off when riding a motorcycle with the stronger winds and what not , I lost all 3 of mine to this and have to order another pack now . besides that these lenses are amazing !
@@HigherRPMs So you lock ISO at 100 and then the shutter speed is what would with lighting conditions. So you want to go ahead and lock the Shutter speed at double your frame rate i.e. 1/60th if you are shooting 4K30. Now that you have exposure totally locked off you add ND Filters to balance exposure which changes with lighting conditions. I.e. Mid-Day, Evening, etc. The Goal of locking off exposure as described above is to create smooth blur motion. Yes the magnets were a rough design, which is why GoPro built the Hero9-11 with the lock on Lens so we can attached to that. The magnets are definitely not the best experience, but its really all we had to work with on the Hero8

I wouldn't use ND filters when Surfing, but windsurfing should be fine as long as the camera is not getting dunked constantly.

The only problem i have with this product is that it won't work with the media mod. And it's sad, cause I'm constantly using PL filter for my camera.

vibration causes movement, and causes noise. and media mod accessories will interfere more thought must go into that now. either the filter or the mod not both.

Hey, there! We normally set our sharpness to low, but this is definitely a matter of preference rather than a rule. The same goes for the color - you can shoot in either Flat or GoPro Color depending on your preference. Our filters will work well either way. (:

Just for an added bit of security and piece of mind, I add a small piece of black electrical tape to the top and bottom of the filter/camera. Haven't lost one.....yet.
If I purchase this, will I have to buy a completely new set for the media mod? Or will there be a new adapter that will fit on the media mod that will work with these filters? Wondering if I should just wait. Don't want to buy now if it won't work in 3 months when media mod gets released.

Was just about to buy a set of these, 1 worry i have, is this going to work with the media mod as the lens housing seems to clip over one corner at the back of the body so looks like it will get in the way of the media mod, which is like a case that surrounds the body..... 2.. How secure are these really... just seen a review on Amazon with a guy snowboarding and his fell off, and he lost it. He's not blaming polar Pro but this stupid design of the fixed lens cover on the new Hero 8 black. This is the review... ***Edited*** First-day snowboarding with the filters the filter fell off and was lost in the snow. Super bummed on the magnets and their strength. Might work great for low action situations but this is a GoPro, it is going to get bumped and put into harsh conditions and this set up doesn't work.
GoPro made it hard to add filters on the Hero 8 so polarpro did the best they could but it falls a little short. Don't get me wrong I love anything with magnets but the first day out I almost lost a filter fishing because I bumped it and it fell off. The filters are meant to be easily installed and removed by hand, and this does mean they can be knocked off the HotSwap mount with enough force if hit from behind. Shy of an impact we would not anticipate their coming loose easily during an activity like snowboarding (the magnets have been tested in 60mph+ winds), however if a particular filter seems to be having trouble staying in place, please send a quick email to support@polarpro.com and we'll be happy to assist.
From my experience with my GoPro Hero 7 Black these ND filters will mess with your stabilization when you’re trying to do the 180 degree shutter rule while capturing video footage. Has this been fixed on the GoPro Hero 8?
Hey, Daniel! We recommend turning the stabilization feature off when recording with an ND filter and using the 180 degree rule of shutter, in order to capture accurate motion blur.

What nd filter would i need if i do 4k 24fps or 60fps?
the filter does not depend on your fps but on your shutter speed and the light conditions.. bright outside -> high filter value. dark inside -> low filter value

hey PP ! I just got the new lenses for my H8B, so if im filming on 60fps 2.7k 4:3 , i want to have the shutter speed at 1/120th and which ND Filter ? from the 3 ? i only shoot on snow in the mountains , fast pace follow cams.

Also just asking is there anyway you can possibly make the magnets a tiny bit stronger as they tend to fly off when riding a motorcycle with the stronger winds and what not , I lost all 3 of mine to this and have to order another pack now . besides that these lenses are amazing !
@@HigherRPMs So you lock ISO at 100 and then the shutter speed is what would with lighting conditions. So you want to go ahead and lock the Shutter speed at double your frame rate i.e. 1/60th if you are shooting 4K30.
Now that you have exposure totally locked off you add ND Filters to balance exposure which changes with lighting conditions. I.e. Mid-Day, Evening, etc.
The Goal of locking off exposure as described above is to create smooth blur motion.
Yes the magnets were a rough design, which is why GoPro built the Hero9-11 with the lock on Lens so we can attached to that. The magnets are definitely not the best experience, but its really all we had to work with on the Hero8

The Fixed lens isn't too bad if you have filters over it for protection, but it is a little more exposed without filters on. (Apparently they are using a new glass that is stronger?) Thanks for supporting our brand for your Hero6!

What a huge miss by gopro...us cinematic surf shooters can’t use these Nd filters for surf. That just stopped me from buying the 8 🥺
