Black Mist Provides smooth and subtle highlight roll-off.
Gold Mist warms your highlight roll-off for that golden glow.
The most popular strengths are 1/4 for Black Mist and 1/8th for Gold Mist as they add subtle diffusion to smooth out sharp digital sensors.

Looks like awesome filters! Is there any chance of releasing Helix Maglock filters that are only gold mist or black mist to be used in conjunction with existing filters instead of just on the VND/PL like the previous Mist-L? Would be great to use with the VND/PLs I already own and have the option to use a mist without having to purchase two additional VND/PLs with mist to cover the entire stop range

Thanks for this Jeff! Is it accurate to say that all the Mist filters in the PolarPro lineup, such as the older mist filters, are a Black Mist not a Gold Mist? And only the newest Chroma VND/PL has the Gold Mist?

You got it! All the older filters that say Mist, are a white mist. Black mist and gold mist filters are all specified on each product page that they are available on.
The Chroma VND/PL has both Black mist and gold mist options for you

So, a standalone gold mist filter on its own is not available?

I’m interested in the Chroma VND/PL - McKinnon Series with Black Mist. Question is, is the mist effect ON at all times or is it adjustable as well so you can essentially switch it “on/off”? Thanks!
