Billy is incredible - that tone is totally him as it always is - Nuno is great as he always is too!!
Mike Portnoy is the best drummer around. He has always had a high level of admiration for Van Halen and Alex especially - this is a great performance by three of the best musicians EVER!!!
And people say Diamond Dave couldn't sing. He was actually a great singer.
Their first Era will always remain the best and most influential and ground-breaking, with an impossible to beat lineup and the music to prove it.
The studio can do a lot for you. Watch his live early 80s videos
I totally agree @MrDantres! As for what @wob6776 is referring to…there some early, early videos of Van Halen playing very small dives, sounding like crap. If you pay attention, Eddie was the biggest issue, Dave was just clowning (entertaining) the people, but still singing okay. Eddie was finding his own style during that time, trying different things in a live setting. His covers were terrible tbh, and I’m a huge fan of his, but he was apparently having some bad nights, and/or had yet to find himself.
They didn’t auto tune or over produce back then. If you saw them live back in the day, and I did, they were great live and Dave kicked arse. Regards my friends, just one old man’s thoughts.
Great only in the studio.
Smoking !!! Gotta love the Mean Street intro by Billy and Nuno - awesome! Billy, Nuno and Mike are three of the best ever and they certainly didn’t disappoint here! Thank you gentlemen!
Billy is a Monster Musician, that’s all I’m gonna say.❤
Killer !!! Amazing how the vintage vh songs is still so fresh and influential yet today .. king Edward
I've always been a Hugh Nuno fan . Great job everybody ,thanks!
Nuno is super talented and a very humble guy .
I love when you can actually hear the bass. And I don’t mean that you can just tell when it’s not there but you can hear it enough to follow it.
Fricken stellar for an impromptu jam.
I first saw Nuno when Extreme promoted their 1st album and came to The Marquee in Westminster, CA. on April 6th, 1989. My buddy played keys and rhythm guitar for a band called HotBoxx and opened for Extreme.. Here is a link to a recording of that show... I already had the CD but to see them live I was completely blown by how fucking good the guitarist was.. I remember looking over at my buddy and saying this guy is incredible (fucking insane was more like it), he going places for sure, I wasn't sure about the rest of the band at that point but I knew Nuno was going somewhere and going to leave his mark and what a mark he has left!
Absolutely love to the greatest guitar player of all time 😊
Love to the greatest guitar player of all time EVH
Lots of love coming your way Tony 💛
Nuno is Eddie's greatest understanding.
that means nothing.
@@morbidmanmusic I understood it
Imitation = RESPECT!🤘
Nuno is so damn good..
That's love to the greatest guitar player of all time EVH
Woah! Great share.
Best part of the whole performance for me was Billy doing the "You or me?" at the beginning of Hot For Teacher.
Imitated but never duplicated
Love
Just always reminds me there was only one EVH
Excellent combination of musicians, and excellent performance! Plus, there's Eddie Trunk shooting footage on his phone from the side of the stage! :-)
And Tom Morello was hanging out too... Going nuts over #KingNuno
People are commenting about Nuno's playing and Eddie's hands, but no one has commented about what Mike Portnoy played here and how badly Alex's feel is completely absent.
Good call. It’s not swinging. It’s technically “right” but doesn’t have the power or swing of Alex.
People tend to overlook the obvious, the music of Van Halen was 80% the Van Halen brothers. Eddie set the groove and Alex completed it. That is the rhythm section of Van Halen... Alex was the rock solid backbone of the music... How many drummers can even rap their heads around playing to the guitar and laying a little behind the beat, let alone do it as effortlessly as Alex did. Both Eddie and Al made it look far simpler than it ever was.
Yup. Crap
You're 100% right. I was scrolling to see if anyone mentioned it.
EVH for ever!
I hope Tony is doing ok. I met him in Austin once and he was a super nice guy. We played pool and he won. lol
BS is the master!
BS Is definitely the EVH of the Bass
He's a weirdo Scientologist.
F#%k yeah!
@7:57 and Eddie Trunk as always there to document for the masses. This dude truly deserves an award!
Exactly, guys like Eddie Trunk and Mike Varney contributed so much to the movement (did Eddie Trunk help to produce any albums? I think, but I can't remember which ones) Either way, these guys are troopers on the field and I respect them
I think so* typo
Made my comment before I read yours. Exfuckingzactly.
The singer must of won a contest to be with these guys! I feel your pain!
04:08 Nuno absolutely killing it, and Eddie Trunk doin’ a damn fine job of documenting it. 🙌🏻 Just noticed Tom Morello is to the left of the microphone when Nuno is doing the solo.
That second or two before the first verse kicks in when he realizes he's too far away to kick on his Flanger... LOL
ヌーノもビリーもエドのファンだったもんね😍
本当素敵🎵
エド?視てる??😊
Nuno is struggling on " Hot for teacher ". Eddie's rhythmic feel shuffle is so hard to do . Even Vai had problems with it !
Satriani can't do it either
So true the intangibles are what make Eddie The King
Let's just say
Imitated but never duplicated
But it's love
Wow.. Not even Nuno can play the Rhythm as EVH did. Damn Eddie is and was KING!
Hey mike, there aren’t any china cymbals on Mean Street!!!!
Shinebox?
Alright alright alright
It's times like these when you realize how it always comes down to Edward's hands. Everything he did was in his fingers, brain, and soul. This sound good...but seriously lacks the feel Eddie had...also, Nuno as gifted as he is totally did his own solo because to try and replicate an Eddie solo is damn near impossible. You hit notes bit you can't get the swing and feel he played it with.
Nuno is swing personified.
Yes but he’s pretty close to The King Eddie
@@drdave971Agreed. Of any guitarist alive today, he's the closest.
Sounds great, but of course it does! By the way, is that Tobey Maguire singing??? Also, what’s going on with Tony MacAlpine? I noticed he has not been on Instagram in about a year.
musics=musicians 😁
I always like to hear how another famous guitar player playes Eddie's lead Solo's if they take the time to learn it, if not why even play the rythem the same?
Eddie Trunk just had to squeeze up there to make a phone vid..
Eddie has a very punchable face
The singer is Carl Restivo, I guess. Nices musics for a nice target.
Is he not a bassist?
@@davidstewart4310 True! I know him from Nuno Bettencourt's Sounchecks at Lucky Strike and he usually sings there.
Wait… RUclips/“Rihanna - Aol Session 2010 Full Performance” he’s at the acoustic guitar at bassist (our) left but he appears seconds 3 or 4 times!
LOCKDOWN stops the world but gives time. 🐱🚀
Great footage, some overtalented musicians paying tribute to a truely legendary act.
But somehow I miss the extravaganza of Diamond Dave...but then again, why would some imitate Dave 😁
Let's see....where is my Fair Warn----oh here it is, pheww.
Who is the singer??
Hey man, tell the singer to pull his drawer up man!!!!!
Why has Mona Lisa cut her hair to sing on these songs?
Came here after that satriani butchery
No offense to Joe Satriani at all as he is one of the greatest guitar players in history, that being said: Nuno Bettencourt should, respectfully be the lead for the Celebrate Van Halen tour. He is he only one ive heard that gets Eddies sound. This is in my opinion. Dont get offended.🤘ROCK N ROLL 🤟
Lacks the feel.
Wow This singer is true to the DLR form... forgetting the words and everything!! :)
Aaaahahaha 🤣 🤣 🤣
Hard to Nuno here on the mix. Love Nuno though. I noticed that drummer didn’t even attempt the info to Hot for Teacher. Lol. It’s a bitch to do right and most do it wrong.
No one can do the intro
I know a lot of people here on RUclips who imitate it perfectly.
Singer needs to learn time!
And the second verse haha but still awesome
I was really liking it until the singer messed up too many times on Hot For Teacher
Dave’s famous line was, “I forgot the F#@king words!”
Absolutely one of the most sexist rifs
Rabbit teeth is such a poser...
Drum pattern is incorrect...and he's all over the place. Not knockin it but he should stick to original grooves....Still very cool though.
Will everyone plz stop trying to imitate Ed or project there abilities vs his....🤐
if ed played a jimi or page cover there would be a bunch of A holes talking about how ed and van halen where crap and not as good as the originals yada yada .
they are replaced with ed fans slagging nuno and the band of
i suppose in time there will be a new great guitarist covering nuno and there will be old AH slagging him of to
Right. "No one can play like EvH" crap.
There are 100s of players who Imitate him perfectly. Wolfie, Stachel, Phil X... to name the most prominent.
The wuestiln is: who has an unique style like him.
That was gawd awful. I have honestly seen local cover bands do a more proficient job on Mean Streets, and the singer can't make up his mind if he's doing David Lee Roth or Anthony Kiedis.
Nuno has zero swing. Terrible.
Have you ever seen or heard Extreme? Nuno has plenty of swing and groove!
@@colleenkeefer2545 Yeah, I heard them when their first record came out. Nuno has no swing. He proves it here when he has the opportunity to display it.
@@stevemineer2857 Nuno terrible??? Puffff.....so funny
@@pabloinguanzo3082 terrible with a swing groove, yes. This video proves it. Of course, your ears may not be able to hear it.
@@stevemineer2857 Steve ... Try to be a little humble.... I just see your videos ... Covers from Vai and anothers..... If You have the swing why is your music so unknow...
none of these guys get it. pathetic. ps: nuno sucks.
lol grow up .
