@First_Grafter are you within EU? You should be able to simply uninstall the bloatware, make sure the region is also correctly set, mine was just there no need for registry edits or anything just uninstalled it like any other program, also at the setup offline accounts were an option without disconnecting it from the internet or any commands
Thank you for providing a resource like this! There are a lot of us who care about privacy that can’t switch to Linux, Graphene, and all the other super intense privacy practices due to work or other reasons. Thank you for serving those of us living in the middle ground!
I'm mostly a linux user but I have to keep Windows around on a separate drive for certain games, so a guide like this is really helpful. Thanks and keep up the good work!
Outstanding video and I THANK YOU DEEPLY for providing extensive sources in the description! It helps a whole lot and all professional youtubers should do it.
I just swapped to Linux. Microsoft takes adavantage of paying customers informatiom and makes it "harder" to update to Windows 11. The more people use Linux, the more application devs will develop for the Linux OS. I recommend a Linux similiar to windows so it won't be too much of a sudden change... One like Linux mint. Then you can check out his privacy guide for linux
Good updated tips for Windows 11. I can't wait to hear for best web browsers for 2025. I'm very curious about librewolf and what would be the best extension to use for your web browser.
I was surprised you did not mention using Windows from the EEA. It allows you to remove all the bloatware and uninstall Edge. Companies have to put people in the EU in separate files or face legal troubles. So, if they think you're from the EU, you get more privacy. I thought we would see a method where you switch regions or something.
Thank you for the video. Regarding the upcoming Linux video, could you please include the firewall settings and the Access Control (MAC) settings, at least covering some basics? I see many newbies switching to Linux, but they often do not configure these settings and leave everything on default. In most distributions, they are not configured or enabled by default. I wanted to create a video on firewall and MAC settings, covering everything someone would need to know, but I lack expertise in video production. It would be great if you could cover this topic, even just touching the surface would be fine.
I would use Linux but it still sucks in my use case. I've tried using Linux for 2 years. Learning and tinkering to make thinks work properly but I just got tired of using up a lot of time on that all the time and just want something that works with little to no hassle.
I'm here to raise awareness: Edge has had for a long time the functionality of Honey baked into the browser directly so it might be even more powerful. If anyone wants to inspect, I suggest not updating Edge anymore to preserve code.
This is good for people who have no other option, but MS are going to be fighting every day to undermine any privacy you try to provide for yourself while using their OS. IMO, the best way to have Windows privacy these days is to use some flavor of Linux instead. Or buy a new Mac if it’s in the budget. Really, anything but Windows (or ChromeOS, but that doesn’t count IMO).
With Microsoft ending support for Windows 10, people should switch to Windows 10 IoT Enterprise LTSC instead of Windows 11 IoT Enterprise LTSC will get security updates till 2032
I just tried 24h2 update and my pic would blue screen on start. I asked the manu and they state there is a compatibility issue with AMD. I had to reinstall everything, so do not use auto updates
Hey! Love your stuff, I’m currently running Next DNS on my iOS device, I’ve chosen ivpn for my vpn, I’m yet to configure next dns into the vpn, not even sure how to do that, do you have a video for it? But my main question is when I have the vpn on and next dns is just always on, it doesn’t upload RUclips and it doesn’t play music from music app, it’s deffo crashing out things, but how do I tweak it to not? Is there a certain thing I need to do, is it specifically to do with a domain thing or a tracker thing etc? Or just gotta experiment, problem is I don’t want to compromise any security and privacy by turning something off just so it doesn’t crash Thanks, long message I know!
Been dealing with this a lot the past few months, carefully documenting each step I take from install to gaming. Heres a tip you might like to know: there are a few apps (I prefer Browser Picker) on Windows that make it so any link you click outside of a browser, will present a menu to choose which browser you'd like to open the link with. For example, if you click a link within an editing program, it will open a small menu for you to choose the browser you'd like to use. It can be configured to never touch the internet, which is the only setting I change. This will also prevent accidental link clicking :-)
Note that randomizing mac addresses isn't a good idea on your home network. You won't be able to reserve DHPC addresses since they are bound to the mac address, you won't be able to identify the devices from your router's gui or logs since they typically use the MAC to do so, and a bunch of other annoyances caused by preventing your router from knowing what devices are connected to it - which yes, is literally what randomizing mac addresses is meant to do. It may also block your device from connecting or automatically place it in the guest network, depending on how your router is setup. Randomize mac addresses on your phones and laptops when connected to public networks, yes. At home? Shut that off. It adds no security at home and adds a lot of annoyances.
Agreed, but those tests are primarily conducted when you run the antivirus. If you are following this channel, I do not believe you are just an average computer user. You would be conscious about what you download and run, so you be fine
actually, microsoft defender has a lot of false positives, at least in the "pirate" side. they probably made commercial contracts with software companies, and this is just enough to not make me use it. not the pirate side, but the fact that other companies have a say on this antivirus.
"Windows security" is what you're talking about, the anti-malware program built into Windows. "Microsoft defender" is an entirely different product aimed at protecting your identity.
Just because source code can be publicly audited does not mean that it is. Open source is not inherently more secure than proprietary, as both can contain vulnerabilities.
Get an enterprise or better yet an LTSC key. Many customization require pro+ settings. (yes you can hack it to bits with CMD/power-shell but that's another story) And backup your STUFF and the computer before you start changing things. LTSC will allow you to make changes past Enterprise as its used by stock exchanges and computers which cannot go down or past civil setups where Microsoft being able to access the data would be a huge fine.
Linux can also get viruses. It's not that Linux is virus-proof; the main reason you encounter fewer viruses is that most malware is designed for Windows since it's the most popular operating system. However, if someone knows you're using Linux and sends you Linux-specific malware, you'd be just as vulnerable. Also, Windows comes with built-in protections like Windows Defender, which warns you about potential threats. In contrast, Linux typically doesn't provide such warnings. By default, Linux can actually be less secure than Windows in some respects. For example, Linux doesn’t always have a firewall, Mandatory Access Control (MAC), or properly configured user permissions enabled by default. If you're running Linux in its default configuration, you could be at higher risk.
Lots of good tips, but I don't see how all of this is just specific to Windows. Small parts were, like making sure your installation is up-to-date, but everything else can be copy/pasted on any other OS. Using password managers, VPNs, browsers, MFA, search engines, etc are all platform-agnostic. 5% of this video was specific to Windows, but the remaining 95% really wasn't. What about tools and settings to enhance privacy of Windows? Stripping telemetry? Blocking Microsoft/Windows domains at the DNS level to cut out telemetry altogether, etc.
Privacy & Security on Windows? Move to another OS ... oh yeah, that tip is at the end of the video. For everyone else who can't switch (lack of tech knowledge or MS$ corporates monopoly): If you don't have a decade of sysadmin experience on windows, please leave the updates on, and keep defender running. As much as I hate giving that advice, that is the best course. And if you do decide to turn those things off, please only do it on your machine, never ever in someone else's. Second: The privacy check on every single setting has to be done every time Windows updates itself. I guess they learned this from the company previously known as facebook, that has been doing this kind of crp since 2007 (MS$ did a lot of bad stuff back then too but rarely did this)
I'm convinced that only people who never used ZorinOS recommend ZorinOS It's not good. If we gonna steep that low go for Manjaro KDE as that has a million times higher chance of working out well for the avarage user. But nowadays it's either mint or whatever faithful+easy install arch flavor (CachyOS and so on) or fedora for microsoft corporate experience on Linux.
Can some of y'all just understand there are people that have jobs and are really dependent on Windows applications and just genuinely need some basic necessary security and privacy? Don't dismiss it mindlessly.
Defender is worthless, especially without Internet. Micro$hit has never been trustworthy in terms of security, like giving the keys to a serial burglar.

In EU we can uninstall edge, onedrive and any other microsoft malware they decide to install on your system. Customer protection is important
All countries should implement this
