Since the iPhone SE's launch in early 2022, it's remained at $430 for what is at its core an iPhone 8 with an A15 chip. In the same timeframe, the iPhone 13 has gone from $800 to $600. Right now, the iPhone 13 comes with twice the base storage, a much more premium build, a bigger way better display, and significantly better camera system for $170 more.
The iPhone SE is TERRIBLE value right now, please do not buy it. I like the SE as a phone, but don't give Apple your money- turn to the used market, where it can be had for half the price in good condition.

I am an RN, and every employee in my hospital is issued one of these (either SE 2020/2022 or iPhone 7/8) each day for clinical communications. There is a ton of equipment specifically made for the form factor like multi-docks and battery cases that the hospital buys. I think this is how Apple keeps the price where it is. The only notable improvments were obviously the chipset, (which improved the camera software, not the hardware) The battery life, and having a 5G cellular connection as opposed to the 2nd gen's 4G LTE. Basically the same phone. (Not surprising, as that's just what apple does.) And the fact that it hasn't had even the SLIGHTEST price drop despite newer phones coming out is kind of insane. Apple would’ve continued to sell it if it made sense and it obviously didn’t. If no one bought it when it was new and even less bought it when the price dropped $100, why would they expect more people to buy it now that it’s 2 generations old.

6:27 I agree with this statement. Recently I switched to working at a cell phone store and a customer came in to buy a iPhone mostly because they lost theirs on an Uber and basically couldn't buy one since they're so pricey and possibly knowing that they might have used the ones with a notch an SE wouldn't be an option since they mostly accepted that they may not receive their old iPhone back and had to go thru a financing process just to get a iPhone 12 since that was the lowest end iPhone we had at the moment. The 3rd Gen SE just does not make sense but is also would if a 4th Gen one comes with the mini body but iPhone 14 or even just the iPhone 13 mini design but gets upgrades that make sense and not just say that it has the lightest end SoC on our current gen device. I clearly switched to iPhone because I wanted to try a Home button iPhone before going to a notch one and that's what the SE 4th Gen should be. They kept the Home button iPhone for this long, it should be time to finally let it go and make the SE line as just the mini but maybe also keep it but like mentioned in the video, with a lower price than the $429 it is now

The price point is definitely to high. I think it should be $250-$300 but the out dated design is a selling point for people who actually want it and prefer Touch ID. Heck, I have 5 iPhones ranging from the 2020 SE and older just because I like the design (8+ is my favorite). I just put a new battery in my 2020 SE last week so it will be good for quite some time and I put a battery in a 2016 SE last year that has basically been my iPod ever since. I’ve been carrying the 8+ for the last 2 weeks just for fun. I’m really enjoying it.

Just picked up a new iPhone SE 2022 for $49 at Walmart with ST and a $35 monthly plan. Not all Walmarts participate, just the ones that have a 3rd party cell phone contractor at the store. You can unlock ST phones after 60 days, just did that with a $249 (now $199) ST iPhone 11 for my wife and put her CC sim in no problem to replace her iPhone 6SE+. It appears the iPhones automatically unlock after 60 days, though I did put an unanswered request in. It's an inexpensive way to get an iPhone. As far as the SE 2022 goes, it's a little small, but good screen and it's fast. Already upgraded to iOS 17. Got a $39 Moto Pure on CC and may replace it with the SE 2022 after 60 days. Hard to tell I like cheap phones (The SE 2022 is $429 on CC and the next cheapest iPhone 14 is $729).

The 2020 SE was a good deal... for 2020. Its refresh being a chip upgrade and 5G support and a slight price uptick was not the right call for 2022. In 2020, a time where companies were still fumbling with the transition to a bezeless design and the world was in a state of panic, it was nice to see an option that not only undercut the competition in price and performance, but also stuck to a tride and true design, even if it was 3 years outdated by this point. The playing field in 2022 and onwards is different. The new features are nothing more than the expectations that a new phone would have at the time, and not even all of the expectations of a phone were met. The 2022 SE was a bad deal from the start, and it's sad to see that the SE monocre has reached the level of negative press that it was originally meant to counteract.

You can currently get a certified Apple refurbished iPhone 12 128gb model from them for $489, which I would argue is a better value than the 2022 SE, even if the chipset is a step down.
I’ve been perusing options since my 64gb iPhone XS is starting to show its age, & burn in is becoming a problem. It’s not worth it to get an OEM or even a good soft OLED replacement for the screen. I’m definitely not gonna risk getting it replaced with an LCD given the draw that would be needed to support the backlight, and it’s also not readily apparent that a decent & cheaper hard OLED would be worth it. I want to sell it, but I’m of good character & would feel obligated to disclose if it had an inferior hard OLED display, which would mean the cost of replacement + fetching lower value would eat into my margins significantly, potentially even more than if I were to just sell it as it is with the disclaimer that it has burn in & an appropriate discount to account for that.
I’ll end this with a hot take on the next SE. I know it won’t be, but can we all just imagine how neat it would be if the next SE were to be an iPhone 11 + a current chipset + USB C?

In Norway the iPhone SE costs the equivalent of 600 USD for the 64GB model when purchased new.
Instead of that an iPhone 13 Pro Max 256GB costs the same if it is purchased used.
The price to get a brand new battery fitted to the phone from one of the biggest retailers is only 110$ so it is even worth buying used if the battery is worn out and just spend that extra 110$ to get a phone that is much better in every way except portability.
The SE 2022 64GB model can of course be purchased as a used phone aswell at 300 - 400 $ but it is still poor value for the money.

I got my iPhone SE 2022 second hand in perfect conditions with box and everything for 250$, perfect value and what it should really cost (more or less) if Apple wasn't so greedy. I'm perfectly happy with it, I love the small, simple design and the touch ID. I'm not a photo/video taking guy, so I don't really care about those things much, camera is good enough for my little needs on that aspect. Performance is beautiful for casual gaming and I don't feel any sort of uncomfortable-ness for the small 4.7 inch display.
However, for 429$ i would never buy it, so I guess iPhone SE is only a good deal if bought second hand in good conditions for under 300$, otherwise its better to go for the 11 or 13.

I bought an as new customer return iPhone SE 2020 a year ago for £229. It had a 100% battery when I bought it. It was half the price of a new iPhone SE 2022 and so given the fact that there is almost no 5G in my county for me it was a better buy. You can now buy a new iPhone SE 2020 for less than £200. The only downside is that like an iPhone 13 Mini, it does not have a whole day battery. I overcome this problem by carrying an iPhone 7 around me to listen to media on and save the battery in my iPhone SE 2020.

A follow up. Bought the 13 and with trade in on my SE3 and some gift vouchers, I paid £180 for a phone that was £800 a couple of years ago. That would mean less packaging produced when selling in their refurbished site.
