Spit Out The Bone from Hardwired is so underrated, such a bad ass tune. Ride the Lightning is my favorite Tallica' album but Spit Out The Bone may be my favorite song of theirs. Top 3 at least

I definitely would give the Load era another look at. Some genuine great slabs of heavy rock that sadly were overlooked at the time, with Metallica's image overhaul taking most of the headlines. Load especially contained some of Hetfield's more introspective, moodier lyrics set to tones of Black Sabbath, Corrosion of Conformity, and Led Zeppelin. "Bleeding Me" is fantastic. There are huuuge shades of Sabbath's "I" stomping through that. Elsewhere, "The house that Jack Built" is a brilliant song stalking its way thru' gnarly, snarly riffs, moody melody, and laced with a cool, eerie, doomy atmosphere. And "The Outlaw Torn" is a massive, monolithic monster, that growls and broods with maturity and menace. And its enhanced, Orchestrated counterpart on S&M is one of the best things they've every done. Seriously, Load is legit. I loved it at the time, and still do. I am especially pleased to see a lot of it- and Reoad in places too- get recognized and appreciated these days, especially by younger fans.
@@yapfloptheunquenched1452 I agree. ReLoad has got its moments- "Fuel" is great revved up fun, Unforgiven 2 continues the more broodier melodic undercurrents ebbing into Load, and Ive always thought that "Fixxxer" concludes a sort of 'trilogy' on the two albums- Bleeding Me,Outlaw Torn and Fixxxer sound great together. But even Hetfield himself reckoned a couple of years back that they should have been a bit more 'selective',regarding the song output. I like all the songs in their own way, but if they had released the Best of the Best from both into one 12 song album, it really makes me wonder how tings would have been different.
@@yapfloptheunquenched1452 I thought the same exact thing. Each album has quite a few throwaways for me which is why I don’t regard it so high. But I also think those albums don’t deserve the hate they get.
Good list Pete. Your lucky you got to go to Rock 'n Roll Heaven. Classic shop. Here's my list. Metal Militia Fight Fire With Fire Battery Blackened Call Of Cthulu Damage, Inc. Mama Said The Unforgiven III Here Comes Revenge Orion Honorable mentions- That Was Just Your Life Spit Out The Bone Moth Into Flame Master Of Puppets Trapped Under Ice All Nightmare Long
And Justice is my fav album, too. Master is a very close 2nd, but I love And Justice!! 1) Battery 2) And Justice For All 3) Damage, Inc. 4) Ride The Lightning 5) Trapped Under Ice 6) Whiplash 7) Blackened 8) Hit The Lights 9) The Wait 10) Anesthesia
People should give Death Magnetic a listen... Death Magnetic is such resemblance of the AJFA album... Crap production, wierd loud mixing and compression... Really good songwritting, long progressive songs, with loads of greeat riffs. Great fast oppening and closing songs, power ballads, a slower song, progressive guitar jamming sessions and transitions, a masterful instrumental (Suicide and Redemption) which is underrated.
I’m pretty late but I really love all eras of Metallica, through stylistic changes and the works. Load and Reload are excellent albums. Never understood the hate for them. Off the top of my head: Bleeding Me Until It Sleeps King Nothing Low Man’s Lyric Hero Of The Day Memory Remains Fixxxer Slither Unforgiven II The House That Jack Built Prince Charming The Outlaw Torn Carpe Diem Baby All of these are excellent and I won’t be convinced otherwise. I’m sure I’m forgetting some other favorites but anyone who didn’t give them a chance after Justice can go kick rocks. Their songwriting is still objectively good.
1. The Four Horsemen 2. Leper Messiah 3. Jump in the Fire 4. Ride the Lightning 5. Blackened 6. Creeping Death 7. Metal Militia 8. Dyers Eve 9. Welcome Home (Sanitarium) 10. Seek & Destroy

In chronological order The Four Horsemen Fight Fire With Fire Creeping Death Master of Puppets Leper Messiah The Thing That Should Not Be Blackened Harvester of Sorrow Frayed Ends of Sanity The Day That Never Comes
1. Creeping Death 2. Master of Puppets 3. Fade to Black 4. One 5. Disposable Heroes 6. Damage Inc. 7. For whom the Bell tolls 8. The Four Horsemen 9. Blackened 10. Welcome Home (Sanitarium)
My favorites are 10 fight fire with fire 9 frayed end of sanity 8 and justice for all 7 The Unforgiven 6 master of puppets 5 Holier than thou 4 creeping death 3 for whom the bell tolls 2 Fade to black 1 Blackened
1. Battery 2. One 3. Disposable Heroes 4. Master of Puppets 5. Ride the Lightning 6. Blackened 7. Hit the Lights 8. Fade to Black 9. And Justice For All 10. Damage Inc Very off the cuff list but the Top 3 songs, in varying order depending on day, are my 3 favs by the band. For other albums, I really love Nothing Else Matters, King Nothing, Fuel, and Some Kind of Monster. I also love the last two albums, especially songs like Cyanide, Suicide and Redemption, The Day That Never Comes, All Nightmare Long (honestly I love the whole album), and also Hardwired, Moth Into Flame, Atlas Rise, Now That Were Dead, and Spit Out the Bone. Have only seen Metallica once, in 2017. Still one of the best days of my entire life.
1 - Welcome Home (Sanitarium) This was the song that REALLY got me into Metallica and convinced me I needed all of their albums. 2 - Orion - Honestly this is an underrated masterpiece of an instrumental, I'm sad they stopped doing Instrumentals. 3 - Sad, But True (My favorite from The Black Album) 4 - The Four Horsemen 5 - Creeping Death 6 - Wherever I May Roam 7 - Fixxer - Easily the most underrated Metallica song and the best (IMO) from Re-Load 8 - Outlaw Torn - Also underrated and this would be my favorite song from Load 9 - For Whom the Bell Tolls 10 - Whiplash - This was the song that got me to buy my first Metallica album when I heard it on Tony Hawk's Underground 2 Honorable Mentions: (By order of album) Phantom Lord No Remorse Ride the Lightning Escape Call of Cthulu (I love it, but I like Orion more) Master of Puppets (Probably their best title track IMO) Disposable Heroes Damage Inc. (This would probably be my number 11) The Unforgiven Nothing Else Matters Of Wolf and Man Bleeding Me (Also a gem from Load) Fuel Memory Remains if you removed that "NANANANA" part, ruins the song for me. Where the Wild Things Are (Probably my second favorite from Re-Load) P.S. I included nothing from Justice for All because I've never really been all that impressed with it.
10. The Outlaw Torn 9. Escape 8. Orion 7. Hit the Lights 6. The Shortest Straw 5. Eye of the Beholder 4. No Remorse 3. The Thing That Should Not Be 2. Fight Fire With Fire 1. Master of Puppets Master of Puppets is my favorite song of all time, and my favorite album of all time just after Steve Walsh's Schemer-Dreamer.
1. Master of Puppets 2. Spit out the Bone 3. Blackened 4. Creeping Death 5. One 6. Enter Sandman 7. The Four Horseman 8. Seek and Destroy 9. For Whom the Bell Tolls 10. Ride the Lightning HM: No Remorse Fight Fire With Fire Fade to Black The Call Of Ktulu Welcome Home (Sanitarium) Disposable Heroes And Justice for All The Unforgiven Bleeding Me Fuel St. Anger That Was Just Your Life
My personal favs Again I’m a huge sucker for those first four albums 1. Fade to black 2. Master of puppets 3. The call of Ktulu 4. One 5. Seek and destroy 6. Creeping death 7. Harvester of sorrow 8. Damage inc. 9. Hit the lights 10. Blackened
would love to hear your top ten load and reload tracks , its sad those albums get ignored, the first few seconds of ain't my bitch are what got me into metallica bad seed from reload kicks as well and i don't care but i really like mama said, also attitude is one of my fave metallica tracks as is cure and bleeding me is a masterpiece
1. Creeping Death 2. Disposable Heroes 3. The Four Horsemen 4. One 5. Master of Puppets 6. Blackened 7. The Shortest Straw 8. And Justice for All 9. For Whom The Bell Tolls 10. Spit Out The Bone
1. Ride the Lightning (that solo break!) 2. Battery 3. Motorbreath 4. Blackened 5. Call of Cthulu (Cliff's bass wah) 6. Jump in the Fire (cool nod to NWOBHM) 7. Escape 8. Struggle Within 9. Fade to Black 10. My Friend Misery One is alright, but it's just another version of Sanitarium, which is another version of Fade to Black. Gotta go with the original. It's why I like Ride the Lightning best. Master of Puppets is great, but it's the exact same thing as before. Even Justice is the exact same formula. One thing we can agree on... Metallica has sucked for well over 25 years.
My top 10 favorite metallica songs and honorable mentions 1. Battery 2. Master of Puppets 3. One 4. Fade to Black 5. Welcome home (Sanitarium) 6. For Whom the Bell Tolls 7. Blackened 8. Damage INC 9. Metal Militia is an underrated almost deep cut from Kill ‘Em All. One of their heaviest, trashiest songs. That is probably my #1. However, I don’t disagree with your picks. Ride the Lightning is a great album
10. Jump in the Fire 9. Creeping Death 8. Ride the Lightning 7. The Four Horseman 6. Anaesthesia( Pulling Teeth) 5. Orin 4. Eye of the Beholder 3. Blackened 2. Welecome Home (Sanatarium) 1. Fade to Black
My favorites change all the time but right now it would probably be 1. Fade To Black 2. Blackened 3. One 4. Master of Puppets 5. Creeping Death 6. Nothing Else Matters 7. Moth Into Flame 8. And Justice For All 9. Battery 10. For Whom The Bell Tolls
1. To live is to die 2. Fade to black 3. Orion 4. The unforgiven 5. For whom the bell tolls 6. Creeping death 7. Master of puppets 8. The four horsemen 9. And justice for all 10. One
10. Fight Fire With Fire 9. Ride The Lightning 8. Eye Of The Beholder 7. For Whom The Bell Tolls 6. Welcome Home (Sanitarium) 5. The Unforgiven 4. Battery 3. Fade To Black 2. One 1. Master Of Puppets

To each his own. I used to as well, but for me it hasn't aged as well as their earlier albums. Enjoy it if you do Marty, doesn't matter what anyone thinks of it!
I agree. I'm probably less of a metal fan than most on this channel, probably why I'm more drawn to songs off the Black album then say Master of Puppets. There's an exception though with One being my favourite song by them, Nothing Else Matters would be next.
Creeping Death Ride the Lightning Fade to Black For Whom the Bell Tolls Welcome Home (Sanitarium) Fight Fire with Fire The Thing That Should Not Be Leper Messiah Master of Puppets Disposable Heroes Honorable Mentions: The Call of Ktulu and Orion (only left them out of top ten because they are instrumentals) And...Fade to Black only ranks so high for the long guitar lead that ends the song. That is the best solo Kirk Hammett ever did. I will often fast forward and listen to that solo over and over again. It was built from the ground up like an architect builds a beautiful structure. Every note is in its proper place and executed perfectly with intense feeling. Too bad I have NEVER heard him play it perfectly live...and I have looked far and wide.
1) Damage Inc 2) Dyers Eve 3) Disposable Heroes 4) No Remorse 5) Ride The Lightning 6) Metal Militia 7) And Justice For All 8) Whiplash 9) Creeping Death 10) Blackened
1. Fade To Black for me too. I knew when you were describing your #1 & 2 what they were going to be. Very similar, but Fade To Black did it better I think and 1st. Ride the Lighning is my favorite album far and away.
1- Orion 2- Kall of Ktulu 3- To Live is to Die 4- And Justice for All 5- Eye of the Beholder 6- Leper Messiah 7- Frayed Ends of Sanity 8- Welcome Home 9- Damage Inc 10- Creeping Death
10) Orion 9) And Justice for All 8) Four Horsemen 7) Call of Ktulu 6) The Unforgiven 5) Fade to Black 4) Master of Puppets 3) Wherever I May Roam 2) One 1) No leaf clover
1. Creeping Death 2. Harvester Of Sorrow 3. Spit Out The Bone 4. Ride The Lightning 5. Leper Messiah 6. Fade To Black 7. Master Of Puppets 8. The Unforgiven II 9. Whiskey In The Jar 10. So What
My only complaint about Fad To Black is it is too damn short. That guitar at the end should go for about an hour or two longer. Well, maybe not that long but I never tire of that guitar at the end.
It’s impossible to pick 10 top songs from Metallica’s first four albums because it’s all pretty damn good. I love it all, including the $5.98 ep. An easier top 10 for me would be my favorites from their Post-80s catalog. 1. Sad But True 2. The God That Failed 3. Halo on Fire 4. Hate Train 5. Bleeding Me 6. Broken, Beat, Scarred 7. Where The Wild Things Are 8. Outlaw Torn 9. Just a Bullet Away 10. Until It Sleeps

Blackened (...And Justice for All) ...And Justice for All The Shortest Straw Harvester of Sorrow To Live Is to Die Dyer's Eve And, Whenever I may Roam (Metallica)
I’ll give you 7 because I consider them my untouchable favourites. 1. Creeping Death 2. One 3. Fight Fire with Fire 4. Master of Puppets 5. Ride The Lightning 6. Blackened 7. Battery And then a ton of songs competing for the last 3 spots: The Four Horsemen Seek And Destroy For Whom The Bell Tolls Fade To Black Escape The Thing That Should Not Be Disposable Heroes Damage Inc Eye of the Beholder The Frayed Ends of Sanity Enter Sandman Don’t Tread on Me Broken Beat And Scarred
10 The Unforgiven trilogy tied 9 Prince Charming (starts “safe” and unravels with a great close) 8 Battery 7 Enter Sandman 6 The Four Horsemen 5 Sad But True (first song I ever heard by them- didn’t even know what the words were when I was five years old but I still tried to sing along!) 4 The Outlaw Torn 3 Now That We’re Dead (this is easily the most fun Metallica has ever had on a song. It was the first time in a long time that a first listen made me go YEEEEEESSSS and do a goddamn backflip) 2 The God That Failed (visceral, ethereal, evocative, and a good headbanger) 1 Bleeding Me. Full stop
I can get behind pretty much every one of your choices, but I don't get Now That We're Dead. Way too long, has cheesy lyrics, James' voice is also too cheerful. I only dig Kirk's solo on it.
My top 10 would be: 10) No Remorse 9) Disposable Heroes 8) Whiplash 7) Dyers Eve 6) Battery 5) Fight Fire with Fire 4) Damage Inc. 3) Wherever I May Roam 2) All Nightmare Long 1) One
10- no leaf clover 9- Orion 8-welcome home (Sanitarium) 7-harvester of sorrow 6-ride the lightning 5-creeping death 4-fade to black 3-blackened 2-one 1-master of puppets ofcourse there's so many other great songs but there is only room for ten

The video Cliff Em All introduced me to Metallica. Nowadays I'll watch Live Shit: Binge & Purge [live in Seattle 1989]
1. The Outlaw Torn (S&M & Original both amazing but S&M is 10 times better) 2. No Leaf Clover 3. The Unforgiven 4. Orion 5. Bleeding Me 6. Welcome Home (Sanitarium) 7. The God That Failed 8. For Whom the Bell Tolls 9. Halo on Fire (S&M2 version) 10. Agree. I'd actually put Outlaw Torn on my to 10 list, or even in the top 5.
I've always like load and reload
@@yapfloptheunquenched1452 I thought the same exact thing. Each album has quite a few throwaways for me which is why I don’t regard it so high. But I also think those albums don’t deserve the hate they get.
Good list Pete. Your lucky you got to go to Rock 'n Roll Heaven. Classic shop. Here's my list.
Metal Militia
Fight Fire With Fire
Battery
Blackened
Call Of Cthulu
Damage, Inc.
Mama Said
The Unforgiven III
Here Comes Revenge
Orion
Honorable mentions-
That Was Just Your Life

4) Ride The Lightning
5) Trapped Under Ice
6) Whiplash
7) Blackened
8) Hit The Lights
9) The Wait
10) Anesthesia
Nice Brian!!! Great picks.
I've always loved "Hero Of The Day." I'm probably in the minority here, lol.
I’m pretty late but I really love all eras of Metallica, through stylistic changes and the works. Load and Reload are excellent albums. Never understood the hate for them.
Off the top of my head:
Bleeding Me
Until It Sleeps
King Nothing
Low Man’s Lyric
Hero Of The Day
Memory Remains
Fixxxer
Slither
Unforgiven II
The House That Jack Built
Prince Charming
The Outlaw Torn
Carpe Diem Baby
All of these are excellent and I won’t be convinced otherwise. I’m sure I’m forgetting some other favorites but anyone who didn’t give them a chance after Justice can go kick rocks. Their songwriting is still objectively good.
Hero of the day is amazing!

Very off the cuff list but the Top 3 songs, in varying order depending on day, are my 3 favs by the band.
For Whom The Bell Tolls is their greatest moment for me...Sx🎸🔥🎸
1 - Welcome Home (Sanitarium) This was the song that REALLY got me into Metallica and convinced me I needed all of their albums.
2 - Orion - Honestly this is an underrated masterpiece of an instrumental, I'm sad they stopped doing Instrumentals.
3 - Sad, But True (My favorite from The Black Album)
4 - The Four Horsemen
5 - Creeping Death
6 - Wherever I May Roam
7 - Fixxer - Easily the most underrated Metallica song and the best (IMO) from Re-Load
8 - Outlaw Torn - Also underrated and this would be my favorite song from Load
9 - For Whom the Bell Tolls
10 - Whiplash - This was the song that got me to buy my first Metallica album when I heard it on Tony Hawk's Underground 2
Honorable Mentions:
(By order of album)
Phantom Lord
No Remorse
Ride the Lightning
Escape
Call of Cthulu (I love it, but I like Orion more)
Master of Puppets (Probably their best title track IMO)
Disposable Heroes
Damage Inc. (This would probably be my number 11)
The Unforgiven
Nothing Else Matters
Of Wolf and Man
Bleeding Me (Also a gem from Load)
Fuel
Memory Remains if you removed that "NANANANA" part, ruins the song for me.
Where the Wild Things Are (Probably my second favorite from Re-Load)
P.S. I included nothing from Justice for All because I've never really been all that impressed with it.
10. The Outlaw Torn
9. Escape
8. Orion
7. Hit the Lights
6. The Shortest Straw
5. Eye of the Beholder
4. No Remorse
3. The Thing That Should Not Be
2. Fight Fire With Fire
1. Master of Puppets
Master of Puppets is my favorite song of all time, and my favorite album of all time just after Steve Walsh's Schemer-Dreamer.
It makes me happy to see that someone is having Escape on the list, really great song for me to.🤩
The Day That Never Comes is a kick ass tune. It also has one of the best videos ever made.
It might be my favorite Metallica track post AJFA.

6. Jump in the Fire (cool nod to NWOBHM)
7. Escape
8. Struggle Within
9. Fade to Black
10. My Friend Misery
One is alright, but it's just another version of Sanitarium, which is another version of Fade to Black. Gotta go with the original. It's why I like Ride the Lightning best. Master of Puppets is great, but it's the exact same thing as before. Even Justice is the exact same formula. One thing we can agree on... Metallica has sucked for well over 25 years.

And yeah my opinion don't get offended by it :)
Metal Militia is an underrated almost deep cut from Kill ‘Em All. One of their heaviest, trashiest songs. That is probably my #1. However, I don’t disagree with your picks. Ride the Lightning is a great album
10. Jump in the Fire
9. Creeping Death
8. Ride the Lightning

6. Anaesthesia( Pulling Teeth)
5. Orin

4. Master of Puppets
5. Creeping Death
6. Nothing Else Matters
7. Moth Into Flame
8. And Justice For All
9. Battery
10. For Whom The Bell Tolls
I’ve always loved Disposable Heros
Nothing else matters but 80s Metallica, anything after Master of Puppets is not real Metallica, no Cliff Burton no Metallica.
How about Load and Reload.
He doesn't like it.
Personally I think they are much better then Death Magnetic, which is heavy but dumb.
Missing thrash sound
Steven Brown Bleeding Me is so underrated. It’s a travesty it doesn’t get more respect
I gotta go with Disposable Heroes for #1.
Trapped under Ice starts with a ripping guitar solo-which broke the formula at the time. Straight up banger.
The Outlaw Torn is my favorite Metallica song

2. Damage Inc.
3. Creeping Death
4. The Thing That Should Not Be
5. Disposable Heroes
6.(Welcome Home) Sanitarium
7. Orion
8. Trapped Under Ice
9. Whiplash
10. Wherever I May Roam
My favorite cover tracks by them: Blitzkrieg and Whiskey in the Jar
The black album is a masterpiece I don't care what anyone says.
To each his own. I used to as well, but for me it hasn't aged as well as their earlier albums. Enjoy it if you do Marty, doesn't matter what anyone thinks of it!
Black album is a good hard rock record
Yes i agree
I agree. I'm probably less of a metal fan than most on this channel, probably why I'm more drawn to songs off the Black album then say Master of Puppets.
There's an exception though with One being my favourite song by them, Nothing Else Matters would be next.
@@candyman666ification it's not hard rock it's straight up metal the riffs are heavy af especially sad but true.
Creeping Death
Ride the Lightning
Fade to Black
For Whom the Bell Tolls
Welcome Home (Sanitarium)
Fight Fire with Fire
The Thing That Should Not Be
Leper Messiah
Master of Puppets
Disposable Heroes
Honorable Mentions: The Call of Ktulu and Orion (only left them out of top ten because they are instrumentals)
And...Fade to Black only ranks so high for the long guitar lead that ends the song.
1) Damage Inc
2) Dyers Eve
3) Disposable Heroes
4) No Remorse
5) Ride The Lightning
6) Metal Militia
7) And Justice For All
8) Whiplash
9) Creeping Death
10) Blackened
1. Fade To Black for me too.
I knew when you were describing your #1 & 2 what they were going to be. Very similar, but Fade To Black did it better I think and 1st. Ride the Lighning is my favorite album far and away.
1- Orion
2- Kall of Ktulu
3- To Live is to Die
4- And Justice for All
5- Eye of the Beholder
6- Leper Messiah
7- Frayed Ends of Sanity

My only complaint about Fad To Black is it is too damn short. That guitar at the end should go for about an hour or two longer. Well, maybe not that long but I never tire of that guitar at the end.
It’s impossible to pick 10 top songs from Metallica’s first four albums because it’s all pretty damn good. I love it all, including the $5.98 ep. An easier top 10 for me would be my favorites from their Post-80s catalog.

3 Now That We’re Dead (this is easily the most fun Metallica has ever had on a song. It was the first time in a long time that a first listen made me go YEEEEEESSSS and do a goddamn backflip)
2 The God That Failed (visceral, ethereal, evocative, and a good headbanger)
1 Bleeding Me. Full stop
I can get behind pretty much every one of your choices, but I don't get Now That We're Dead. Way too long, has cheesy lyrics, James' voice is also too cheerful. I only dig Kirk's solo on it.
