Calliope - one of the loves of Morpheus.
Will he forgive her for the mistake of the past and take her to The Dreaming?
If you like it, give a like and sub :)
Thanks!!!
Enjoy watching! 🥰 - Видеоклипы
You know what just occurred to me? The scene where he spends the day with Death and she has to come and take the baby? Dream looked so stricken and I thought he was just empathetic but he really understands what the mother is going to feel since he also lost a child.
That makes a lot of sense. I hadn’t thought about that before you mentioned it.
He may not actually desire offered up their grandchild for him to kill the endless are both more and less then human as his real is dreams and sense children have the most powerful dreams he might simply been morning a lost his kingdom
The quiet fury in Dreams eye when he face Murdoc was terrifying. Imagine meeting him after doing something like that to someone he cared about
imagine upsetting someone more powerful than a chaos god
In that moment you know you are dead man hahahahaah
@@luiousy7329 Powerful yes, but he still follows the ancient rules. He is not permitted to kill unless it is to protect the dreaming. He also believes in serving humanity and we are his master not the other way around.

This actress (Melisanthi Mahut) needs to be back in season 2.
Her portrayal as Calliope OOZES warmth, love, inspiration and forgiveness... Damn, the casting in this show was astounding.
The fact that she is half Greek as well.. OooHH the enunciation on her words, really brings her Goddess within.
SPOILERS for the graphic novel below:
Depends on when they do the Orpheus plot, which probably will be entwined with when they adapt _Brief Lives._ Which will probably be Season 3, or even 4, depending.
@@Landis963 Well, the next time that Calliope will probably appear in the show will be when they decide to adapt Fables & Reflections, and since that arc is a short story collection like Dream Country, it could easily fit as a special chapter in the second season...
She’s also the voice of Kassandra the main female Greek assassin in Assassin’s Creed odyssey 🥰🥰🥰
I loved how the changes they made in this scene from the comics, Morpheus is way more tender and passionate ("You came - you called", "because he hurt you", "let me help, please, I owe you that much") Calliope has more agency and integrity (she willingly calls him, and they didn't explicity showed the SA scenes) and they went from "I don't think that's a good idea" to "perhaps, one day"
Wait the dude sexually assaulted calliope???!!!
Yes, it’s explicitly depicted in the comics; but if you go back and pick up on the many clues (such as Fry suggesting that Richard “use force” or the scratch on Richard’s face after he goes to Calliope’s room and then suddenly his writer’s block breaks), it’s made clear enough.
@@Batman-ro9mj Yes, his mentor talks about how he found force to most efficacious, then we cut to the man having writer's block, then the man trying to woo her while still holding her captive, then more writer's block. Then he gets up from his computer and it cuts from a word doc devoid of text to a word doc full of text being filled with more. Plus he also has scratches on his face.
I love the changes to Calliope but I'm less fond of the changes to Dream for 1 reason: it's too early. It's only season 1, he is still supposed to be an arrogant cold a**hole here. The beauty of Sandman is too see Dream slowly evolve into a better person during the different stories. If he is already an empathic guy at the end of the 1st season I fear this will give him less room to grow later on. Sure the imprisonment changes him but it's more like the catalyst for the change itself that happens quite slowly. 🙂
Tom's acting is so intense and perfect that it takes your breath away, pure emotion.
Yes
Ikr!
additionally it hurts seeing him hurt - so good. Breathtaking indeed
SPOILERS:
This was a scene for me that makes him more mortal to us.
However, I noticed now looking back on each episode in Season 1, every episode Morpheus becomes less hardened, and more like humans.
Only because he's finally opening up to what it really means to be human.
He's more compassionate now and less cold than in the beginning.
This particular scene though... I kept thinking he must've had a lover and now here she is.
It reveals more about Morpheus than we initially realized.
I can't wait for season 2!
I hope they will both be able to properly mourn Orpheus, as Calliope wanted. He was the perfect combination of both Dream and Calliope, a dreamer who loved so deeply he went to the Underworld to save his dearest wife, a man who convinced even Hades, God of the Underworld, to give him a chance to save her. But like a man, like his parents, he was still flawed and doubt won in the end -- doubt in Hades' word; it was his doubts that caused him to lose her in the end.
Spoilers: Orpheus is not dead, not entirely.
more spoilers, orpheus would be morpheus fall
@@patlee4858 what is orpheus power?
Here’s some takes on the Orpheus myth I always found compelling:
Marianne (from a portrait of a lady on fire): “He chooses the memory of her. That's why he turns. He doesn't make the lover's choice, but the poet's.”
- choosing the memory of a perfect ending over an uncertain future.
@@patlee4858 it would lead to the dream being attacked, but in the end Morpheus choose to end it
Seeing this, knowing about their son, gives a whole new depth of understanding to why Morpheus was the way he was with Rose and her brother, and why he seemed to understand J.Constantine's nightmare about not being able to save a child who meant something special to her.
Also that look he gave when his sister Death took the baby. He was moved by it and hurt at the same time.
Barely 10 minutes and i want a 2hr movie of just them.
I'm really hoping she returns for the Orpheus sequence, later.
Sameee 😂
I really hope we see more of her character!

"Without forgiveness wounds will never heal"
That line cuts DEEP
Haha, I got it 👍.
I love the way she says>in a Greek way!
Is there any other way to say it…? I mean it’s Greek and at least I have been taught to pronounce foreign words in their native way….
@@tommay6590 The only thing that sounds a bit ''off'' is the selection of giving the word ''dream'' a male pronounce. Dream is ''oneiro'' in Greek and with a neutral nature, not male. Since he is a supernatural being , they could stick to ''oneiro'' rather than ''oneiros'' which is not even used. (at least in modern greek)
@@vasilikib.7419 In Greek Mythology there was a deity named Oneiros / Όνειρος. She called him with that name, not simply "dream".
After that episode, I would gladly watch the whole backstory of these two. You can see that there is still respect and even some lingering chemistry between them
About that. If Netflix continues to support the series, your wish will be granted.
And with the same actors.
Dream still has feelings for her. He was shocked when she asked to go back to his “place” so they could grieve together, but remember his realm was probably still trashed. Also maybe a reach, but two former lovers grieving about their child together can lead to a lot feelings and emotions in which could lead to sex. She’d been raped and abused for over 60 years. He wants her to heal as he has to heal with his own problems as well. “One day”
Well thought out
I do kind of like the implication that Sandman was like "Oh crap my place is a mess right now... Maybe some other time"
The reason why he stated that they shouldn’t grieve over Orpheus is because
Orpheus is still alive
Such beautiful but still emotional scene, it's clear that Dream still loves Calliope but because of his nature he can't show much of his feelings, 3:50 it really show how much wants to be with her.
Also his grief over his son, I don’t think the guilt or blame has been healed between them.
I agree with you, I think that Morpheus still loves Calliope
You're both right. He clearly stills wants to be with her but at the same time he has not forgive himself about what happened to their son.
@Clio same.
I agree 100% 💔
that tender moment when they touched heads hit me like a train running over my soul, such a tender beautiful moment, we need to see more scenes of these two together PLEASEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE
I love how the conversation between Dream and Calliope was lit, she in warm golden light like the sun, he in blue light as cold as the moon.
Loved this episode so much!!! It made me furious and made me cry. I love Morpheus and Calliope’s relationship.😭😭😭😭
Same
Me too. The dream of the thousand cats was one of my favourite issue in the whole comic series. The adapted it incredibly. I was in tears.
This shows much in the span of a few minutes. 1: It does a great job implying just how cruel Dream was before his century-long imprisonment, and how much ego and pettiness he's left behind (though there is still plenty left).
2: The pain of losing a child never goes away or lessens in strength, even for gods.
2.season more calliope morpheus 🎉
A Woman who loses a Husband is called a Widow.
A Man who loses a Wife is called a Widower.
But...the GRIEF is so great when a Child is lost, that there is NO WORD to describe those left behind.
I felt well either when Caliope abandoned that house, hoping that no more pain seeks her out.
So that's why Morpheus only opened the door for her
I dont know what is more beautifull, but Callipe heart, even for a Godess who have the power and fury of Zeus in her, instead, forgive the mortals, becuse she knows its good to her. And the way she also forgive herself by allowing her and Dream to fell the pain of lost, just show how powerfull she is. And its great to see a different side of Dream, as even for a Endless, he also fell Grieve and Lost, and is more in touch with humans dreams. I think i always so Morpheus Dream Aspect as something Ilusionary, like The Fantasy, but in this show I belive that his character is actually the Embodiement of Dreams as Hope and Horror, both in union, he is every part of the Endlesss actually (Destiny, Death, Destruction, Desire, Delirium and Despair... make part of the Dreaming) and by so, he also fells all this feelings. Desire to Calliope, Despair for Orpheus, even Delirum as he is shown to curse Madoc with it.
The actress who plays Calliope also voiced Kassandra in Assassin's Creed Odyssey! I loved seeing his relationship with the Muse. Very interesting!!!
Tom's Sandman gives me feels...
Same😄
I wish see them together again 😍
They are amazing together
I love this part of the episode it shows how much he still loves her
That's true forgiveness, letting go of the things that others have done to harm you, not the people themselves mind you but the things they've done to you. It frees you from the pain and suffering of holding onto those things, you need to be free from that in order to move on with your life. Don't let the bullies criminals or misguided people make you suffer twice over for each evil deed.
I really felt like this is season 2 already, God so magical series in a long time
Be interesting to see dream confront the olympians about what happened to there son as he's significantly more powerful
They’re probably not around anymore. The Hecate said (in this episode) that most of the old gods were dead.
Only the Endless never fade
@@austinboylan5476that's very likely! And is a common theme in Gaiman's work: without the power of people's beliefs, they get weaker and eventually fade.
I think he still want to be with her but she's like "let's talk about our dead son" and he's like "I don want to even think about that!! So good bye"
🎉🎉 calliope
I literally cried this time😭😭😭
Gaiman seemed to doubt that would be a second season due to the cost, but I hope there is.
Just got confirmed 🥳🥳
I kind of hoped The Sandman debuted in HBO instead of Netflix.. I want this show to go on until season 10, cz there's still so much to tell from the Sandman's source material and it's very unlikely that Netflix will keep renewing this show until season 10, probably just until season 3 or season 5..
Can HBO afford the budget that Netflix provided tho? Just curious cuz I’m not familiar with it
iirc the contract to make sandman did not bind it to netflix if they decided to cancel it, exactly so neil gaiman could offer the show to another platform in case that happened. I also doubt netflix would stick w sandman long enough to turn all 13 books into live action (their mistake), but that's not impossible overall
Didnt know Kassandra also started

Side Note:
I went to a comic book store meaning to buy Death and The Sandman graphic novels and ended up watching the show flon Netflix first.
Neil is a fantastic writer and dreamer himself. He really poured his heart into this one.
Being on set with him must have been so surreal to the people working with him.

Fantastic show. Highly recommend! 100 stars. Every speckle of dust was perfect. Didn't and still don't have any complaints about The Sandman on Netflix!

The end title is beautiful. I wonder, who composed it?
It was composed by David Buckley

I wish they adapt the Nada and Kaikul storyline
I would to see that as well!
They would have to, it’s going to be important in the Adaptation of season of mists.
I dont
If a season two comes, I imagine it will be a whole episode, especially because his going to release her is the motivation Lucifer needs to exact her plan. And Desire and Despair basically bait him into it. I think they may have already filmed it since I feel like I have seen stills between them that were different than just the drive by in episode 4.

Nah. You're entitled your opinion, but Episode 6 was wonderful.

So the Sandman's name is ONEIROS
Oneiron in Greek means dream. Oneirology is the study of dreams. His original Greek name is Morpheus but she is calling him like when people call him "dream" instead.
In the very ancient times Oneiros (oneiro means dream) was the personification/deity of dream. You can find him even in Homer's Iliad. There were also the 3 Oneiroi (plural). Morpheus who was taking human form in the dreams, and delivered gods' messages to kings. He was the leader of the Oneiroi, and was equated with Oneiros. There were also Icelos/Icelus or Phobetor and Phantasos/Phantasus.
We heard 4 of Morpheus' names in this episode, if memory serves. Oneiros, Morpheus, Dream (the Fates name-drop him as such, IIRC), and his Roman title, "the Shaper of Forms."

of course the hideous joke is: thier son isn't dead. Not yet. he's still just a severed head....but he's alive. and Morpheus KNOWS this. it's ACTUALLY killing Orpheus out of mercy that empowers the Furies to hound Morpheus to his death.
Sort of to you i read the entire comic, but it´s a heavy heavy heavy spoiler to who don´t read.
I never understood this volume in the comics and it rub me in a wrong way. This ep is bad writing also. If a person tells you he locked someone in a room why wouldn't bring the police to check it out? and why do a rapist get to go around walking free? He clearly would do it to a human woman if he had the chance and could get away with it, I don't understand this part in the comics, so her being a non human woman is not a excuse
In their defense. They prolly thought he was going crazy and didn't really believe him. I mean look what he just did to his hands.
@@johnrayordas well why did she go to his house in the first place ? If she thought he was mentally unstable.
She chose to forgive him. That's the heart of things. She chose to not let him suffer any longer. It was her choice, and not Dream. @@klaojungwiwattanaporn6927 I still don't understand why that's a good idea, do you?
@@glorfindelchocolateflowery6392 As in why did Calliope choose to forgive him? It could be for a variety of reason. She's a muse which mean she would continue to live for a very long time. Chances are she wouldn't want to inflict on another person what had been inflicted on her (a long-lasting torment), even if that person had been cruel to her.
She chose to let him go because what else could she have done? There is nothing she could have done to undo what he did to her. Letting go was the only course of action because alternative would be subjecting him to excruciating torture.
All in all, it's fair to say she didn't forgive him. She let him go because she was a nice person.
And they didn't contact the police because what are they going to tell them? That the rapist kept a mythological muse locked up? I don't think Calliope want to spend another second in the whole mess, she just wanted to go home.
Pay attention a woman asked for a man’s help and also emphasized that he suffered as well, and then man came to her rescue. You won’t see this nowadays, usually the woman says she doesn’t need a man to save her and that she’s better or suffered more …. Ahem… she-hulk and Batwoman 🤢
