Newbury Park's Leo Young breaks national HS 3-mile record, formerly held by his brother, Nico Young.

- Newbury Park junior Leo Young etched his name in the history books at the 2021 Woodbridge Classic, storming to the national 3-mile record in cross country with an electric night-time performance of 13 minutes, 38.1 seconds at the nation's largest meet.
Leo's performance shaved 1.6 seconds off the prior national record, set by his older brother Nico, now competing as an All-American distance runner at Northern Arizona University. Nico set the prior record at the 2019 Woodbridge Classic.
Newbury Park also established a national team-time record for its scoring five at this race, shelling the prior standard by an unfathomable 100-plus seconds! Leo and twin brother Lex, siblings Aaron and Colin Sahlman, and Hector Martinez

It's incredible to see Colin's rise to the top. I mean we all thought Leo was the one to look out for, and then here comes Colin with a 3:58 mile.

I didn’t expect any of this. Absolutely crazy. I didn’t remember this race and I didn’t know these dudes went 1-4 with a time difference of like 10 seconds! Crazy! We are gonna see this team go 1-4 at NxN

Yeah, but SilverLakes is perfectly flat and the race weather for the 2021 sweepstakes was perfect (about 70F). Glendoveer for NXN can easily be cold, raining and muddy. Didn’t stop Nico in 2019, but you’re saying four out of four will have a good/great day and we just won’t know until the race is run.

@@iamreflex2565 imo they get Appleford in the top 15, likely chance LAL&C get 1-4. I predict Colin will catch back up to the form he was in this spring, even if he doesnt though, the winner, second place finisher, and third place finishers of every single NXN ever had a slower 3 mile pr than what any of these four ran on saturday, the only exception to that being Nico with his 13:39.
@@FranklynAlvarez all true, i'm just not counting anybody out. honestly i wouldnt even be surprised if they do go 1-4, but the course, weather, and time of year will be entirely different come november/december. someone could break that up if they have a lifetime race. we'll just have to see
