HOW TO: BROWN TO BLUE HAIR

  • PRODUCTS NEEDED:
    - Lightening Powder
    - Developer (10 or 20 volume - I don't recommend using higher than that)
    - Violet based toner
    - 10 volume developer (or lower) for the toner
    - Blue direct deposit hair color
    STEPS:
    Lightening the hair:
    1) Mix 1 part lightening powder with 1 1/2 parts 10 or 20 volume developer
    2) Starting about 1/2'' from the scalp, apply lightener on THIN slices of hair, placed in foils to process.
    * Make sure you are checking the foils every 15 minutes or so to ensure they aren't getting too hot and are processing evenly!
    * DO NOT use any developer higher than 20 volume in foils if you're doing this at home and aren't a professional. The foils will allow the lightener to heat up, and anything too strong will get VERY hot and can fry the hair and potentially injure you/your client
    3) Remove foils and wash out lightener after ~45 minutes
    * If the hair isn't lifted to a level 10 pale yellow yet, you may have to repeat the lightening process ONLY if the hair is strong enough to handle another round of bleaching
    4) Apply lightener to the roots, no foil. Wash out once the roots match the rest of the hair.
    Pre-toning:
    5) Follow toner's instructions, applying to the hair to cancel out any excess yellow tones. Rinse out. Dry hair to get about 75% of the moisture out.
    Blue color:
    6) Apply direct deposit color (it shouldn't be mixed with any developer)
    * If you want to add some dimension and dilute the blue color like I did on Kellie, simply add purple or white conditioner to your mixing bowl until it's the shade you want
    7) Rinse out with cool water after 20-30 minutes. Condition, don't shampoo.
    Please remember these are just general rules/guidelines. If you're not 100% confident doing this yourself at home, please go to a professional!!!

    This is literally the only video I could find of a pro stylist doing virgin brown hair to blue lol. I dyed my hair ALL THE TIME in high school, but now I'm almost 30, and my hair is 100% virgin again, including heat. But I'm bored and I want to *properly* dye my hair blue 😂

    Awesome work!!! I'm soo glad your video is still up bc I used your method to dye my adult daughter's brown, virgin hair to real blue before they left home. I especially was searching for this video bc I really needed instruction on the Toner part. Do you still use a Violet/Purple base toner if the brown hair has orange tones after bleaching? Or Blue based toner?

    Thank you so much for this I've been wanting to go blue for a long time. Also I have a question. After having this blue (or maybe an aqua turquoise blue color) and having it faded, will purple go well over top without having to bleach again?

    • @kyliedotson8848

      It should because there is blue in purple. That sounds stupid because I suck at words, but yes, you can put purple on top of blue lol.

    is 2 process of 10volume bleach more damaging than 1 process with 20volume?

  • @WinnnJ

    When you said you wanted it light as possible it cut to the next scene where you were covering the whole head with bleach was it where you did the root first then after you wash it and all that you redid all of it again but in one go once more ?

    How long did this process take with short hair? And besides doing another process is there anything else you’d do for non virgin hair?

    • @briebalagtas4370
      @briebalagtas4370 6 лет назад

      Taylor Apolonio she'd most likely do a color removal process before bleaching so that the lightener has less dye to go through and the results will be more even! 😊

    • @styledbysamvay
      @styledbysamvay  6 лет назад

      It took about 4 1/2 hours all together. And I'd say start applying the lightener where there's the most color built up (the ends), then go through and do the midstrand, and then do the roots last. Since you're putting the blue on top and not leaving the hair blonde, you luckily don't have to worry so much about it coming out PERFECTLY even.
