    I had the same problem with a walk about kettle....So...I roughed up the kettle base with a very course sanding disc. The kettle was copper so was easy to do....Worked a treat....No more walk abouts for my kettle.

    Hi grandad and Grandma love the video you will soon be qualified to built narrow boats for a living seriously with regards to your kettle problem ocean going boats mostly use gimbal stoves with a steel surround on the top maybe something like that

    like the hob very nice Don't think your quite happy with your kettle being on the burner are you as being a little unstable its a large kettle that one if your boiling the kettle while moving and you hit something that could fall of the burner Ade will figure something out for that don't worry I thing we are having the Thetford oven as well great video guys . Steve & Sandra.

      Cheers Steve and Sandra. Gladly the kettle is fine now. I just needed to use the hob a few times to take away the shiny new surface. Everything grips well now. Yes we are getting on fine with the Thetford. We have heard many views from people that don't like them but we are not experiencing them problems on ours. Everything ive cooked has been fine. I rotate the roasting tin etc a couple of times while cooking and everything seems to cook the same as a domestic oven. We use the grill a lot and i like that its separate from the oven. Easy to clean 👍

    Well done on the 2K subs. Excellent fitting for the gas. Posh kettle. That’s a proper kettle, you’ll both have forearms like ‘Garth’ lifting that to make a brew. Hopefully you’ll be on the move soon. Happy belated Haley. If you got the kettle, I hope at least Adi, will make the first cuppa!

    It looks really fantastic, well done both of you. Isn't it amazing how intricately you can route copper pipes, over fifty years back I installed the gas and central heating in my house. I'd never bent a pipe before but soon learnt, by the way in those days you could do your own gas work, the gas board just checked it before they'd make the meter live.
    What a pity about that lovely looking hob that unfortunately isn't very practical, a big frying pan with a long handle (I use one) would overbalance on those tiny supports. You can get fireproof tubing, I have some that fits in the sealing groove on my wood burner's doors. It might be worth giving it a try.
    One thing that suprised me was that Grandad did not do a gas leak test, (unless I missed it). He is obviously an expert gasfitter but the cooker may be faulty like the hot water tank was.
    Hope that you had a great birthday congratulations on getting 2k viewers. It's a pity that you didn't have the cooker installed back in the winter when you needed a hot meal.

      Thankyou Tony, Yes the pipe looks really neat bent in just the right places. fiddly job though. We have now cured the hob. As soon as you start using it it grips much better. The kettle now doesn't move at all unless you lift it up and our heavy pans grip too. Yes sorry about not showing it all being tested I only realised I hadn't filmed it once i did the editing. Ady tested at each stage of the install. If we get time this week I will film him giving it all another check 👍

      @@makinganarrowboatwithnannyandg This would definitely be a good idea. It would empathize how important gas safety is.

    All this work on a beautiful design hob, and then you find out the kettle slides too easy, bummer! The design is to have easy access for cleaning and instead of beefy cast iron rings you got these tiny pins. To reduce sliding, the contact surface of the pins has to be increased. The wider the pins, the more resistance you will have towards the kettle. I hope the manufacturer can supply some satisfying solution, otherwise you may have to choose a different hob with more contact surface.
    I was hoping this job would end with a whistling ketlle and two cups of tea. Well - safety first! Have a nice birthday weekend anyway.

    Was thinking, maybe you could use silicon tubing to provide high friction and high heat resistance on the steel fingers of the hob to prevent sliding kettle syndrome🙂

    • @makinganarrowboatwithnannyandg
      @makinganarrowboatwithnannyandg  2 года назад

      Thankyou Jim, After a few goes using the hob it was able to grip a lot more and we think its solved the issue 👍

    Really nice hob and oven. Don't know the solution to the sliding kettle apart from don't use it when you are moving. Take care both. Avon ring was brilliant by the way, do it clockwise, Avon locks are fierce going uphill.

      Thankyou George. Sorted the hob. We just had to use it. It now grips the pans and kettle. Will stick the Avon on our list👍

    perhaps not looking at the hobs to change but looking at attaching a foot to the kettle to minimize movement, or for the hob, tabs of silicon tape to stop the slide... or stop drinking bloody tea and get back to work, I dunno H ya giving him to much lead...all the best guys

    Once again great update. May I ask what you intend to finish the walls to the gallery area with as the worktop etc look out of this world but if your painting etc above them lots of protection required.

    I wonder why in Britain, they're called "Olives", but over here in Canada (and down in the US, too), they're just called "Compression Rings". From what I see, they're exactly the same part. Just another one of the funny differences between "American" English and "The Queen's" English! 😄

    No PTFE tape or pipe dope? All the recent work I have had done around my water heater and generator used tape or dope or both. Is that just a US thing?

    • @makinganarrowboatwithnannyandg
      @makinganarrowboatwithnannyandg  2 года назад

      Hi Leslie, Yes it's a devil if you do and devil if you don't scenario. I agree with you but was told I couldn't use jointing paste on boats so put the tape on instead on the rest of the pipework and have since been told that I shouldn't use tape on LPG on boats even though it states on the tape it's suitable for LPG. So hence why I didn't use it this time but I am yet to be convinced it's the right thing

    You could look at welding a circle frame to the bracket stand on the hob so the kettle sits into the circle frame and won't allow the kettle to slide around.

    • @makinganarrowboatwithnannyandg
      @makinganarrowboatwithnannyandg  2 года назад

      Thankyou Brian. We solved the problem as soon as we started to use the hob. Everything gripped once it had been used a few times. It was just the newness that made it feel so slippy. Thankyou for your suggestion though 👍
