This reminds me of a thing I do every year where I gather up people's old decorative pumpkins and cook them into various foods for the whole month of November. Pumpkin soup, pumpkin curry, pumpkin pie, pumpkin cake, pumpkin pancakes, pumpkin pierogi, and the list goes on! It's fun, saves money on groceries, and gathering them up can be a real adventure. Pumpkin is amazing!

Your amazement and interest in the finest of details makes you such a great person to watch and the stories you show that always showcase the beauty in something. You go out on these adventures and see the natural beauty of your neighborhoods, but you also see the beauty in a suffering physical challenge. Everyone says the wildlife in Australia is deadly, but when I see someone bivvy camp next to their food and kit all willy nilly it makes my American heart tremble. Here that's a recipe for waking up at 2am to fight off a bear who's interested in your pic-a-nic basket 😂
lol! I was thinking the same thing - when you've camped in grizzly/black bear country all your life - camping in a place with no big predators is just weird. First time I did a wild camp in the UK and cooked and ate right next to my tent it just felt wrong! Beau doesn't seem to be in dingo country... so it's just snakes and spiders I guess 🙂
I know Australia has a reputation that everything is out to kill you in the bush, but they really don't have many large predators. In contrast, the US has several species of bears, mountain lions, wolves, etc, but because we don't have any giant spiders we kind of lose perspective in the comparison.
I'm pretty sure that Beau would probably act the same way in any county and probably view the 2a.m. bear incident as one of the best moments of the trip. The bear, on the other hand, would probably vow never to get within 10 miles of a human ever again!!! 😂

I am grateful your elementary schools over there don't need to be concerned about the security risks of letting a strange man onto campus the way we would in the U.S. One thing I really related to is how nice it is when room mates leave precious or useful items behind. It's also really neat that you still have your Gran and that your kids get to have time to know her. I hope they get a lot of time together.

But otherwise, yes, very country and trusting to a degree
