How to Replace Serpentine Belt 10-14 Volkswagen GTI

    1A Auto shows you how to repair, install, fix, change or replace a broken, noisy, squeaky, worn or groaning serpentine belt tensioner. This video is applicable to the 10, 11, 12, 13, 14 VW GTI

    Thanks for the video! I was able to replace the belt from the top. A 3/8 ratchet with a 4” extension on the handle was just long enough that I could press down and hold the tensioner with my weight and pull off the belt easily with the other hand. Pretty much a 10 minute job after the hour it took to figure it out :)

    just got done doing it from the top no wheels removed, honestly pretty easy once you understand

    You can do this job from the top without removing anything. Much easier that way

    This works on the 09 model as well since the 09 mk5 gti has the TSI as well. And yes my belt just broke. Thanks for the video.

    Can I try to tighten it a little bit on a 1.2 tsi mk6? Or is there a spring inside the tensioner?

    What if you don't install the tire back on? Can you still drive it

    Takes less than 10 minutes from the top by yourself.
    There is no need to add an extra 30 min of work for the prep.
    Biggest “tip” i would suggest is when the new belt gets caught by the coolant hose, just poke it through with an extension.

    No need the Jack the car remove wheel arch trim, it can be done by just just a wrench or spanner

    Wow. That's a lot of work for a belt. Gotta love German engineering. I have a 2009 gti and it needs a new tensioner. Is it the same process pretty much or will I be able to replace it from the top?

    Good God. I'd just shitcan the car if it was that difficult! Thankfully, you can do it from the top and save yourself 80% of the cuss words.

    Those tires are way off. They're not GTI at all.
