I had the exact same experience with Kirby's Dreamland 2 of all games lately. The True Final Boss was kicking my butt around the globe before I finally defeated him when, as a kid, he wasn't too much of a problem.
... I guess with this perspective, the "kiddie games" of today could be really difficult for us 80's & 90's kids.

Darkwing Duck is my favorite NES game. I think it's pretty easy once you get the hang of it and has unlimited continues to boot. It is way easier than the NES Mega Man games which it is based on. I hope it gets the Remastered treatment like DuckTales did.

This game is one of the many good licensed Disney games. There were plans to make a remastered version of this game, as with DuckTales and Castle of Illusion, but since Disney stopped making video games, this idea might never see the light of day. I also keep hearing rumors that Disney was planning to make a live-action movie based on the show.
Also, I'm pretty sure that crab enemy at 9:58 was the inspiration for Crabmeat from Sonic the Hedgehog.

i'm the biggest Megaman fan. at first i thought MN9 was great. then it became horrible when i spent a few hrs at it. then i got past an impasse - now it's better than the worst of MM like MMX6 but it's real low in the 30+ games. i have beaten them all several times. i will say: MN9 is cool if you have beaten the very hardest and are looking for another one.

This game is literally responsible for my path in life. I'm 34 and work as an environment artist in game development. It's 1990, I was eight years old and grounded, I'd recently gotten the brain development to know that the parents were hiding the christmas presents and I can sneak a peak when they're not around. Because I'm grounded, the parents took the NES away and I has to teach myself how to hook the NES back up to the TV. This gave me an interest in electronics, they're never as complicated as they seem. I managed to beat the game before they officially gifted it to me.

This and the sequel were two of the best NES co-op experiences I had. My brothers and I used to run through the game many times due to how much fun you could have either playing straight or trolling each other (via picking up and throwing).

I saw Darkwing Duck at Disney World! Broke away from my mom and little sisters to get his autograph. As soon as I saw that huge purple fedora peeking out from either side of that tree, I was GONE.

I heard that there was a contract between Disney and Capcom that gave the later exclusive rights to make Disney games in Nintendo's consoles, for that reason the Disney games in Nintendo's consoles were different than the ones that appeared in Sega's, specially with Aladdin's game. By the time the Lion King was released the agreement was over and for that reason the game was basically the same in Genesis and Super Nes.

Odd story related to Ryan's about ordering SF2 out of a catalog because stores were sold out. My mom ordered me Mortal Kombat 2 for my birthday on release, and they accidentally sent my copy to the other side of the country. She called and complained, then they next day aired me a copy. Four days later I receive the other copy in the mail after it was redirected to my address. Sold it for $40 to a friend.

_"kids with the emulators and stuff are kinda like in a privileged position"_
Uh... you mean *_adults_* with nostalgia - "kids" these days have no interest in playing games that are literally twice as old as them. And in this case, they wouldn't even know the show...

I'm pretty sure the one rescue ranger is Monterey Jack, like the cheese. Because I think he's a mouse. On Wikipedia, it says that his father's name is Cheddarhead Charlie...kinda funny if you ask me. Did they run out of ideas for names?

What I loved about the Capcom NES games was the control. Unlike many other NES games, it was so responsive that it made the games so much more enjoyable.

+Cinemassacre Look up 20XX on Steam. It is, in my opinion, a pretty decent Mega Man spiritual successor. Beats Mighty No 9 hand over fist.

I had this game when I was a kid and I didn't think it was that easy. I guess most of it was easy but there were a few parts that were hard and I don't think I ever beat it. I think I made it all the way to the final boss but I never beat him. And I don't think I ever played it with a friend. I did beat Duck Tales though. Yeah, those Disney games for the NES were way better than you'd ever expect them to be.

We don't need no Megaman from Capcom. Not after Keiji Inafune and Inti Creates part ways with 'em.
Last time Capcom made Megaman games without Inafune we got Megaman X 6-8. Eff this crap. Rather let Blue Bomer rust in peace than get X7'd.

You know, it took me 25 years of my life to get this, but I now understand where the aesthetic of Chip and Dale's costumes come from: Chip is Indiana Jones, and Dale is Magnum P.I.
I just blew my own mind.

Anyone else get a Mega Man 2 vibe from this game right away? Anyone else think Dale was kind of a wanker back in the day?

If you want a Mega Man vibe play the Darkwing Duck game. It was basically a Mega Man game reskinned to fit the Disney license. Which isn't entirely a bad thing.

The guy who designed the "I just want to be king" level for Lion King gave an interview a while back about how hard the game is - he said (among other reason) one of the reasons that games were so challenging was that publishers were putting pressure to make the game really hard to increase rental sales.

On the Boss with the cat that throws money at you and 2 spikes on the ground, I remember that if you played 2 players, the second player started out on one of the spikes and took a hit at the start of the fight unless the first player picked him up before entering the boss room. Great game, just remember that flaw!
