- Adventures in the Magic Kingdom NES Secrets and History | Generation Gap Gaming - Thinking back to the dawning of the 1990s can trigger a plethora of nostalgic emotions for a pop culture junkie like myself. But few of those memories can hit as close to the heart as times spent playing the NES and experiencing Disney TV shows, movies, and theme parks with family and friends.
So when Capcom and Disney joined forces to produce a collection of NES games, it was bound to be a successful partnership. Retro gamers frequently recall their fond memories with games like Duck Tales, Chip and Dale Rescue Rangers, and Darkwing Duck.
But one lesser discussed Capcom and Disney title is Adventures in the Magic Kingdom, where you can virtually explore a Disney theme park and become immersed in classic rides like Space Mountain, Pirates of the Caribbean and even the Haunted Mansion.
And thanks to detailed accounts from producers at the core of this game’s development and me actually playing through two different early prototypes of Adventures in the Magic Kingdom, we will discuss many special additions, omissions, and nuances that shaped the final product and can help you complete the game yourself. And I can’t wait to share all the secrets and history with you in today’s video, so let’s get started. #NES #Capcom #Disneyland #WaltDisneyWorld

Fun fact: The composer for this game was Yoko Shimomura who would later go on to work for Squaresoft and compose the music for the Kingdom Hearts games which are heavily based around the Disney universe.
Yep. You are correct!
Don’t forget Mario RPG
I rented this a lot as a kid. Even being a California kid, we didn't really go to Disneyland as often, so this was sort of an alternative, haha
Same here. Definitely a frequent go to rental for me
Please consider sharing and liking this video as it really helps to build our community. It would really mean a lot to me 🙏.
I shared on one of my discords!! Great work buddy!
Is that mullet boy at 6:19? I don't think so, but maybe...
Jeez this one is hard...
Never mind, that 1st comment... got him at 7:55 .... WOW you're getting really sneaky my friend lol
Friend of mine and I would play through this nearly every morning before school.
I'd play the heck out of this game as a kid, never beat though till recently. Thank for highlighting this hidden and often forgotten gem
You are most welcome man. I enjoyed making this one
Imagine they made a remastered version with other rides like Nemo submarine, Star Tours , Splash mountain ect.
@@mo_musashi_284 Back to the Future ride :o
My little sis and I would rent this game all of the time. We had so much fun. Awesome video! Thank you.
You are welcome. Definitely the perfect rental game for a couple bucks.
Looking back, that train level is so damn unfair. Unbelievable that the original idea was to have it even more frustrating :D
I had this as a kid... I must not have liked it much though because only the Pirates level is even remotely familiar. Great video once again my friend!!!
Thank you kind sir🙏
I just got those damned songs out of my head after about 30 years... Here we go again.
I loved this game as a kid. Some of the levels were extremely difficult, but it was great once finally defeated.
Completely agree my dude.
Hey thank you for the content man!! I love all of your videos!! Brings me back to the 80s and 90s a lot... very nostalgic.
🙏 My pleasure Daniel. Thank you for the kind comment
Man, you're really making me wanna go back to Disney World again. Got to go there my first time back in late 2019, and it was also the first time I ever got to take a proper vacation. A glorious time was had.
This is one of those games that really surprised me when I first played it. Still have the haunted house music playing in the back off my mind great choice of games so many memories of better times. Duck tales ,Chip and Dale and this one put many smiles on my face
Sounds like we share similar memories Charles. Thanks man
I love your work. Even in this case a game I hadn’t played (yet), it makes me feel like TMNT just came out. Thanks!
Thank you so much. Truly means a lot to help keep me motivated.
I appreciate this video. That was a game I remember seeing a little back in the day but like you said Rescue Rangers completely overshadowed it at the time. I do remember renting RR a couple of times back then as I was a big fan of Capcom in the NES & SNES days.
Capcom was always a favorite back then. Thanks for the kind words 🙏
Some cool insights into the development in this video. Nice one, Tyler!
Thanks so much man. I was surprised how many documented discussions about the development were out there.
Really appreciate the time you take doing these videos, the research you put in every video already lets me know once I click I’m going to find out things I didn’t know what went into the game, plus the game itself with the tips! I look forward to every game you research no matter if I ever played it as a kid, actually it makes me want to check the game out after! Didn’t even know to much about this game just the other three, Duck tales, Mickey mousecapades and Dark wing duck. 👍🏼👍🏼
I enjoy the work, but it really helps motivate me even more with comments like this man. Thanks so much for the kind words as always.
Love watching your channel brings back memories of a much simpler time
Thanks John!
Well done video! I enjoyed the additional background information and props for the dedication to bring the game on your family vacation to get those shots in the park!
Thanks Trevin. I try to bring some interesting facts as much as I can. I don't regret taking those shots for the video either. Got a few strange looks from other park goers though lol.
Great video thanks. You had lots of interesting facts about the prototype. This game was a perfect weekend rental. It was easy to beat in a few days and just when you got tired of it, it was time to return it to the store. Always fun to pick up and play again every few years. There were all kinds of playground rumors about secret attractions you could visit like Small World and Jungle Cruise. Never knew there was actually a seed of truth about Jungle Cruise. Thanks again.
Thank you Greg. It was my pleasure to make the video.
I remember playing this once over a friends house as a kid. I had no idea so much went into making it. Great video! My wife and I just took our boys to Disney world in January! Love the shoes by the way. I tried to order a pair the day they came out but they were already sold out.
I hope you and the family had a great time at Disney World. We were there in February. I think everyone handled the social distancing precautions well. Glad you enjoyed the video and thanks for the kind words about the shoes.
Dude! Did you take that box into Disney World to get that shot? 😂 Awesome!
You know I did! No regrets lol
Another great video G3 Gaming. All of your videos are well put together, and are fun to watch!
Thanks so much 🙏
Wooah im not ready for this one lol surprising us with another upload! Niiiiice!!!!!!! Can't wait thanks😃😃😃
You are most welcome man. It has been a while since I uploaded lol
This was actually one of the NES games I could beat as a kid! Loved it! 🍻
Guess I need to be on the hunt for this one! Honestly didn't know this one existed despite knowing how much capcom worked together! Looks pretty fun but also has that capcom soundtrack!
Tyler awsome NES Sneakers!!! Old School at its best.Hope all is well with you and your family.
Thanks Ray. My wife and kids got me the shoes and I love them too. We are all doing well thanks for asking. Hope you and yours are doing well too.
Great game. Thanks, man. Your channel is the best.
Thanks so much dude. You are too kind
I’m amazed at how punishing this game was to us kids, but we kept coming back for abuse due to the charm, intoxicating chip tunes, and Capcom’s extra polish that made NES games somehow better than most other NES developers.
Perfectly said man!
truth
I’m not a big fan of all the games you do. But with that being said,I love all your videos. I love the way you profile the games. You’re research is unbelievable. And I share the love of old nes games like you do. Great work as always.
Thank you Mark. I do know that people probably wonder why in the world I cover some of the games I do. I need to try some more mainstream stuff sometimes. It does mean a lot that you still enjoy watching them.
I love that you do the not so mainstream games. That’s what I love about your channel. The games you do are great games, but I would never think about them. But thanks to you profilings them,I want to play them. I love your channel and the work you do,so please don’t change anything. And thank you so much for replying to my comments.
Great video! Loved this game as a kid! Really wish they would have added that 6th stage as the game always felt short.
I would have been cool with Jungle Cruise of Splash Mountain level. Have a great weekend Samuel.
Love the videos, I'm am 80s baby as well! Also yours is probably the first intro I actually like. Super clean NES kicks!
Thanks man! Yeah those shoes were a gift from my wife and children. They know me very well.
I played this game a lot as a kid. I did alright with the normal stages, but the trivia questions were a problem. Being a kid from a country where English is not the default national language, this was a major obstacle for me.
So glade you have a new video uploaded. I so look forward to watching your content.
I really appreciate that Daniel. Makes me happy that you enjoy watching.
Another great partnership was Sega and Disney when Disney games were made for the Sega Genesis. There are games like QuackShot and World of Illusions which was literally two of the BEST games I ever played to this day. It really seemed like when it came to Disney games, Sega/Disney put in extra effort to make those some great games.
Both of those games are awesome. Genesis Disney titles are very legit.
Great to see a new video, and I always learn new things in your videos
Awesome, thank you! Have a great weekend Thomas.
Its always nice to see another G3 video! Thanks!
Always my pleasure my friend🙏
Awesome video as always. Can't believe you brought the video game box to Disneyland to take that shot! LOL
Thanks man. I take it a little too far sometimes lol
Great video on a title I've only ever heard of through you, great to learn more about it. Sounds like it had an interesting trip to the stores for sure. The multiple game styles really remind me of the old Ocean multi-game-genre film licenses like Robocop and Batman on the home computers. Don't know what those NES games were like, I know Batman was Sunsoft on NES rather than Ocean so is an entirely different game, but Batman the Movie had platform, puzzle, driving and flying segments. Thanks for another fantastic mini-doc, hope you're keeping well!
thanks so much as always dude. Ocean was a mixed bag of good and bad NES games lol
@@GenerationGapGaming Yeah I think they were that way everywhere, but my Nintendo familiarity is really focussed on the Gameboys and the Nintendo DS. Their Gameboy games seem pretty great though. For every great title there was one like the C64 version of Robocop (which I still own on tape) which has a totally glitched 4th stage you can only beat with a level skip or a map to tell you exactly where you can walk.
Loved this game as a kid
Great job once again 👏 content and quality always a 10 👍
I appreciate that. I try to make it interesting for you. Have a good weekend.
One of the first "weapons" in Second Life I built was the throwing candle. To me, it made the most sense to have an item that I could use as a projectile but something that didn't look like a weapon for areas that banned carrying weapons on you.
Wise decision
Nice kicks at the beginning and as always great video 👍
Thanks man. My wife and kids got me those shoes. I love them too.
Been binge watching your channel. Like secrets revealed videos
Awesome! I am truly happy that you enjoy watching them.
u got footage AT disney 😂😂😂😂 u crack me up man. Im going there in a week!!!!! Maybe ill bring my copy also 😂😂. Awesome video!!!!!
Really glad you guys are going soon! I'm kinda jealous 😅. Yeah I knew I wanted to make this video one day and we went in February so I planned ahead lol. Think of me if you get an Orange Citrus Swirl in Adventureland. Those are soooo good
Oh man I loved this game. Still have it. So challenging
It can be deceivingly difficult at times
Excellent video, brother. Keep up the great work.
Thank you sir🙏. Have a great weekend.
This video really makes me want to finally go to Disney World one day...I need to reacquire the game as it looks like it’s pretty easy to get through.
I hope you get the chance to go one day Eric. Really is something special no matter your age.
I remember Duck Tales, Chip & Dale and Dark Wing Duck games but I don’t remember Adventures in the Magic Kingdom. 🤷🏻♂️ Great video. 👍🏻
Thank you sir 🙏
Tried playing this a lot as a kid and couldn't even beat one level. Think I got to Star B on space mountain but that was it really
I had this game. Got it when I was seven. Figured out pretty easily how to rack up stars in Autotopia
Nice! You knew what was up.
Another good one. I remember renting this one. Never beat it
One of the best rental options for sure. I think that is the proper way to enjoy this one back then lol.
It’s been driving me crazy for a while now, and tonight I will finally say something.. the little table to hold the plastic wood for the Karate Kid figure to chop in half is UPSIDE DOWN. He’s supposed to chop through the wood. I had that figure and that was one of my favorite things to do. I hope you have since realized this and used it as it was intended. OCD dude checking out.
It's always a good day when GGG posts a vid! 🕹️🎮
Thanks for taking time to say that!🙏
Fantastic adventures of dizzy video would be cool if youve ever played it. Lotta nostalgia for that one
I can look into that one. No experience with it myself though. Thanks for the suggestion Daren.
I've loved this game as a kid. I think I'm going to dust it off and play soon
Awesome 😎
I loved that you actually brought a copy of the game to Disney to get B Roll. Defiantly something I would do. All goes right I'll be visiting there in October this year 😁
Great video as always
Awesome Russ! Being there during their halloween decorations and activities is awesome. Our favorite time to go.
Another great video Tyler! Hope you and the family are well!
Thank you Rob! The family and I are doing well. Hope you and yours are doing great as well.
One of my favorite games as a kid!
Awesome! I have always really enjoyed it too.
I loved this game and borrowed it from my best friend regularly.
That's what friends are for lol
Glad to see you make another video
Thanks 🙏
TripG. Glad to see a fresh post.
My body is covered in poison oak. It sucks. This was a nice distraction
Get better soon man. Poison oak or ivy rashes are not cool. I've dealt with that quite a bit in the past myself.
I only got most of Disney's NES titles from the Afternoon Collection on PS4 and XBox One. I did have most of Disney's Sega games though. Like The Jungle Book, Aladdin, and The Lion King.
You can't go wrong with any of those games Josh!
7:55 mullet boy... wow tough!
Dang dude you found him first! I'm impressed. That was a hard one 🤣
@Flapstick look harder...
@@GenerationGapGaming took me like 2.5 viewings lol...I was cursing you under my breath as I put the phone to my eyes lol... cool video man, I like the real shots of your trip there!
I could not find it and I watched it 3 times and the last being at 1/2 speed. Good job
@@PatrickM-dm6sf haha thanks... yeah, I speed it up too... I got a few other techniques too I use, but I shall not divulge them here, as I want to "win" all of these lol....and I believe I recognize your name as another guy who's found him multiple times..!
The thing that's never made sense about this game is how Mickey tells you they've lost the keys, and you have to get them back, but then he's like, "You need to race me and then I'll give you this key."
What...?
Sweet!!! I didn’t really like this game but G3 made an awesome video on it.
Thanks for taking time to watch even though you didn't really enjoy the game. I truly thank you.
Great video once again! Its been awhile
It has been a while Mike lol. Glad you enjoyed it.
2:52 she really be rockin the spongebob look
What would everyone want to see in a reimagining of this game for modern consoles? I’d love a Roger Rabbit Crazy Taxi minigame as Benny the cab going around Toon Town. Maybe playing as Goofy in the Star Wars universe in some fashion as well 🤔
Are you the ex- relief pitcher of the Indians? 🍻
@@risboturbide9396 I’m not but my classmates used to give me his baseball cards back in elementary school. 😂 ⚾️
I'd definitely be down with the Roger Rabbit concept. A water level for Splash Mountain would be cool too or It's a Small World with the evil animatronics trying to attack you🤣
Had this game as a kid, never been to disneyland or whatever.
I beat it only a few timesause good lord some of those stages were frustratingly difficult.
yesss love me some new Secrets and History from G3 😊😁
Oh yeah Russ! Good to hear from you man.
One thing that stands out regarding this game is when I used the game genie to get a "super jump." When I entered the haunted house and jumped as soon as the level started the spectre would stop me and kick me out of the level. He had text saying something but that was so long ago I don't remember.
I know what you are talking about. I almost put that in the video too. The super jump code definitely gives an advantage lol
You Returned YAY! your a god!
We are back lol. Thanks so much.
Kudos for taking videos of the game at the actual park rides lol. There is a sequel to this game on the Super Famicom called Mickey Tokyo Disneyland Daibouken.
Nothing in the Super Famicom game indicates that is a sequel to this game. Just because it also transcurs at a Disney park?
Man i couldn’t wait to get to
Work to hear this one!!
Hope you enjoyed it Michael. Appreciate the support my friend.
I def want to get this one on my collection.
Im sure you will be able to find one fairly easily. Good luck.
@@GenerationGapGaming I grabbed one from ebay already. 👍
Keep up the good work bro
thanks so much. I will try my best🙏
I could never beat Pirates or Space Mountain as a kid. Weirdly had no problems with Haunted Mansion.
Yeah the Pirates level is deceiving because you can't get a weapon until the last minute lol
Thanks! 🙂
You're welcome!
Love this game, great video, as good as a disney parks game this is i have to say i think disney world magical racing tour on dreamcast is better though ☺
Thanks 🙏. Never played that on the Dreamcast. Can't believe I missed that one.
Congratulations on your video, it definitely is thorough and well made.
Maybe more so than the game deserves…
As can be seen on longplays here on RUclips or by playing it first hand, it’s a (frustratingly) short game.
It definitely has that Capcom/NES feel of good quality of playability / graphics / music (Yoko Shimomura is a personal idol), but the fact that over half the map is unplayable is frustrating; all that wasted potential…
At the very least it would’ve been fair to be able to play one final level inside the castle, as a reward. We don’t even get to see the parade from the game’s premise, just a still image for an ending.
I wish for someone to hack the game’s ROM in order to create more levels, providing so of a more complete Magic Kingdom experience.
I had this as a kid.
Nice!
The difficulty to Big Thunder Mountain depends on the assigned station. 4 is the easiest, because if you choose not to steer the train it automatically goes to station 4.
This was the most expensive game that my parents bought for me back then.
And the 2021 CBR600R keeps the undertail exhaust.
So... New game for me to play. Cool. :)
Oh yeah! I mean it's not gonna be the best game you've ever played or anything, but it's fun. Have a great weekend Hunter.
@@GenerationGapGaming you as well sir.
Good work bud
Thanks man!
That haunted level looks very similar to Ghosts n Goblins on the nes.
I completely agree!
Yeah!
7:55. Mullet boy on the space mountain console, under 1B!
There ya go! Nice eye
@@GenerationGapGaming I watched it twice and I couldn’t find it. I had to cheat by looking in the comments. What’s funny is I knew it would be covered by the text. And I had a feeling it was in space mountain bc that’s every kids favorite ride. Dang it :)
"Great videos ✌😎👍"
Glad you like them! Have a great weekend.
I always felt like there should have been a Jungle Cruise Level (for adventureland), and a final unlocked level in the castle (represents fantasyland) after you get all the keys. This game seemed too short and could have been a masterpiece otherwise!
Another great review .. I love and hate this game ...’never could beat the space mountain stage
Thank you sir🙏. The turns are a little wonky during that space mountain level at times
I had that same tv
Very cool Dan. Such a nostalgic TV too. Good times.
You missed a chance to mess with people: Use Ghost and Goblins music during the Haunted house gamplay part.
My son and me tried it for the first time this past weekend
Nice! Hope you two had fun.
Did you go to Disney just to get B Roll for this video? That's why you're channel is so good lol
Didn't go just for that, but I knew I wanted to cover this video soon so I tossed my box in my backpack lol. No regrets Tony. Hope you are doing well buddy.
@@GenerationGapGaming I knew you were dedicated to making great content but I wasn't sure exactly how far you'd go lol. I am doing well thanx and I hope you and the fam are doing the same!
I never really played Disney games, as I wasn't into Disney growing up. In fact the only Disney movie I ever saw, even to this day when talking about the classics at least, was The Jungle Book, and that's only because I went to the movies with my friend and his parents and that's where they took us lol... so it never really transferred over into my gaming that's for sure. I played Rescue Rangers, but I never played Ducktales, as sacrilegious as it apparently is lol.... that mickey and minny mouse game looks kinda familiar so maybe I played that for a bit, but overall I just ain't into Disney (never saw lion king, beauty and the beast, snow white, Cinderella, etc)...how this game actually looks kinda cool...
Also, I assume you went to Disney recently and took those pics with the cartridge for your channel and this video specifically? I mean, I see u in the mask in this video and unless u wore one years ago like a weirdo, I assume these are recent shots just for your vid (not that you went to Disney World JUST to make a video lmao)
I didn't travel to Disney just for the sake of making this video lol. I did know that I wanted to cover this video one day and we went back in February and I took my game box and cartridge along for the ride. Timing worked out well lol. Also since everyone was wearing masks and social distancing I don't have to worry about blurring people out of the crowd 🤣
@@GenerationGapGaming haha I know, I was joking... lol, nice didn't think of that...less editing on their faces !
I actually liked this game
I kind of wish we saw sequels
It would be a cool modern update for a homebrew of newer disney rides and attratctions
I've never tried this game. Guess I need to. :)
If you get the opportunity it is a fun and quick game to beat. Have a good weekend Jeremy.
@@GenerationGapGaming now-a-days quick is good.. lol have a good weekend as well bud.
