- James Douglas Morrison (December 8, 1943 - July 3, 1971)
was an American singer-songwriter and poet who was the lead vocalist of the rock band the Doors. Due to his wild personality, poetic lyrics, distinctive voice, unpredictable and erratic performances, and the dramatic circumstances surrounding his life and early death, Morrison is regarded by music critics and fans as one of the most influential frontmen in rock history. Since his death. Together with pianist Ray Manzarek, Morrison founded the Doors in 1965 in Venice, California. The group spent two years in obscurity until shooting to prominence with their number-one hit single in the United States, "Light My Fire", taken from their self-titled debut album. Morrison recorded a total of six studio albums with the Doors, all of which sold well and received critical acclaim. He was well known for improvising spoken word poetry passages while the band played live. Manzarek said Morrison "embodied hippie counterculture rebellion".
Morrison developed an alcohol dependency throughout the band's career, which at times affected his performances on stage. On July 3, 1971, Morrison died unexpectedly in Paris, France at the age of 27, amid several conflicting witness reports. His premature death is often linked with the 27 Club. Since no autopsy was performed, the cause of Morrison's death remains disputed.

Sad That Jim Janis Jimi And So Many Other Young Singer's Who Died So Young But They Left Behind Such A Musical Legacy Rest In Peace ✌️
Drug and alcohol recovery therapists often say the "27 Club" is caused by ten years of abusing one's body...such as starting at age 17 and by age 27 it's too much to bear. Very sad. Nearly 60 myself...27 seems and is...very very young😢
@@redrooster1908 I Lost My Oldest Nephew 3 Year's Ago To Alcohol 37 Left Behind 3 Great Kid's
Loved his music❤️ riders on the storm 🌩️⛈️ sad the 60s and 70s were crazy for singer and actors. May he rest in Peace❤️
Your right. Those were some crazy and tumultuous times. The Viet Nam War, the Race Riots, Sit ins, Peace Marches, drug abuse. So, but don't you think it still might have been better then? People still weren't as polorized as today.
He was years ahead of his time.Great songwriter, Superb!
Jim Morrison was a great talent, all the Doors were. I visited in the very early 90's, frankly it was a state . Perhaps it has been cleaned up a bit since then.
My goodness! How time flies, and how Jim seems to have external youth when you see the photos of the handsome young man ,mop of curls and gorgeous bone structure…a real model look. I loved his music with the doors too, but this was a wake up call too, when being born in 1943 you suddenly realise he would be either approaching or in his 80th year had he survived! It doesn’t seem possible, and although sad at his unnecessary death, I am better equipped mentally to view his image “then” than an octogenarian bless him! ( no offence to people that age as I’m fast approaching myself!) Lovely tribute Cathal…Thankyou for finding Jim for us and paying respects. RIP Jim, and Thankyou for your music and writings which live on. 🙏💐💕🦋🦋🦋
I was in my third year of high school, how could I forget this guy. But I was not a druggie like a lot of my peers. So I was not cool at the time. I think "Light My Fire" was my favorite song. Sad he died young. RIP. 🙏♥️
Morrison’s grave, at first barely marked, soon became the most visited grave in the cemetery. In 1981, a headstone was crafted by the Croatian artist Mladen Mikulos. (The bust was stolen in 1988.) In 1990, Morrison’s grave was renovated and a new curb and headstone installed. Mikulos’s headstone was destroyed. Finally in 2004, complaints regarding the destructive behavior of some of Morrison’s fans- who were not only trampling on neighboring graves, but actually defacing them with graffiti and slogans- came to a head. The surrounding area was often littered with beer cans especially on the anniversaries of his death without any thought for the graves of the dead Morrison himself had so respected and wanted to be buried alongside.
why was his remains not sent back to his family in the U.S.? no one can watch over his grave or visit from that side of the family ubless they fly half way across the world, or old band mates. Shelfish move on his then wife? And he plenty of money, yet his grave is so bland and humble
There is a place for him, designated in Baltimore, MD. The nearby horses agree.
I visited in 92. What a mess! Absolute lack of respect by some Doors fans. Doors graffiti etched into other tombs, bottles and cans strewn on route to his grave. I was happy they fenced it off later.
@@amc5936 I believe the change in headstone came about after his parents visited. Maybe he was secretly moved then, by their request??
I visited 2019.....grave J.Morrison.....Hiii from Croatia😊❤
Nice tribute to Jim Morrison. My first concert was seeing The Doors in 1968. Jim's drug of choice was LSD or psychedelics.
It was his drinking that killed him, imo.😥
No, his drug of choice was alcohol. That was what caused the majority of his problems.
@@djhoneylove5710 I agree. In the early days he was doing LSD, bur it was the booze that led to his downfall.
I took a train from Amsterdam to Paris so I could visit Jim in 1999,
I was extremely high on magic mushrooms and it was an amazing experience. I’m
a massive Doors fan and this is an excellent video!
Sounds like you had a ball 👌 thanks Tommy
Do you still do drugs?
😂😂😂😉👌🏼
Thank you for the respect that you gave to Jim's story. He was one in a million and I feel blessed to have seen him in Miami. And for those who wonder if he did those things there....he did.
This was a great visit! So sad he went so young 😢. He had so much talent. Loved him and the Doors. Thank GV!
Thank you so much for the nice bio and for taking us to Jim Morrison's gravesite. It's a beautiful cemetery.
Thank you for going to Pere Lachaise cemetery to pay respects to Jim Morrison and I wish I could go but you went for me to see his grave on your video, Thanks Again.
Sad he died so young as he had great talent. The Doors were amazing. Especially that song Rider on the storm. Their best song to me. Sorry drugs seemed to go after him and his girlfriend.thanks for his story.
Wow I love The Doors thanks for this Grave Visitations.
Lovely everyone puts fresh roses and flowers on Jim's grave now after all these years...he really is eternally young and beautiful. Kim
Great tribute. RIP Jim. Thank you very much GV.
My favorite songs were "Light My Fire" and "Things are Strange". 27 was a unfortunate # for a lot of the best rock stars of the 1960's. RIP all.
Things are strange is not it. People are strange is the song
such a beautiful cemetery , I love the Doors music 🎶 great tribute to Jim Morrison, sorry I missed your premier it aired just as I was finishing work and was driving home
THANK YOU. I NEVER WOULD HAVE SEEN IT IN PERSON. I too grew up with and loved their music.
Glad you enjoyed it and got to see it with me 😊
GV thank you so much for this video, you've no idea what this means to me. The Doors were the band I loved throughout my lifetime & I was supposed to be in Paris next week to visit his grave but the trip got canceled due to various reasons. Total heartbreak for me. Not thrilled they fenced this off and I'm sure if Jim was alive today he would be singing the song how they fenced this world off to the masses. One of my favorite songs, When the Musics Over. I wonder who the people are who get to place that memorabilia there, maybe his brother & sister choose the items. I know Ray Manzarek, Robbie Kreiger, John Densmore visited just before Ray's death. I know John Densmore was livid with Jim and refused to speak to him ever again but he did attend the memorial with Ray & Robbie. I will treasure this always. Truly you don't know what this means to mean. The Doors will always live in my soul as their music was with me since I was 10 years old in 1968. RIP Jimmy and Ray. What a time to live through with the good, the bad, and the ugly.
You can jump/sneak around the barriers- just don't get caught. When I was there in 1990-91 there were no barries then and we could sit on the edge and drink whiskey. I poured some intonthe grave too.
One of My Favorite Performers
Rest In Peace Jim
Jim graduated from the same high school i went to. He graduated a year before i did, melbourne florida. He had a great talent and could sing and greatly famous for it. He was a product of the 60's like so many, myself included. He was extremely high before being famous and hit a neighbor of ours. The poor man nearly died, lost his legs and he never even reached out to say he was sorry. So sad😢. He later became part of the 27 club😢
Oh guys, I can't wait for this! Hope you're both well.
All good here 👍
I really like your Irish accent, it's lovely. I wish I could travel and see these sacred places.
Irish accent 🇮🇪😁
thank you. this was lovely. Jim was my first crush. i was almost 10yrs old! lol! i got to see them perform twice. once at the Hollywood Bowl show thats so famous and also at the Long Beach Arena in Long Beach CA. i understand why the barricades are up, but i know i would so want to see it up close and touch his stone. thank you again!
Didn't want to get arrested lol
A sad ending to a great talent like so many of his era, thanks GVsafe travels from ballarat in Oz,👋👋🙏🙏👍🇦🇺
Extremely talented man, in spite of his addictions, he certainly would have continued to achieve great things in Art, music, fashion, books, poetry and possibly have a family...if he had lived. Paul McCartney, Ringo Starr, Bob Dylan and others of Jim's era are 80 now, as he would be. Still, his legacy will live on. Thank you for taking us to Paris to pay respects!! RIP Jim Morrison❤
Great video, and thank you so much for sharing. Jim Morrison also performed where I grew up in Detroit, Michigan area at the grand ballroom in downtown detroit area.
🖤🌹 Jim
Grazie per questo video ❤❤❤
Thank you for the video . I like The Doors music Jim was such a good performer. The cemetery is beautiful.
Thank you so much for making this video, I'd love to visit this place but will never get there. Big fan of The Doors, too many great musicians gone before their times sadly.
Glad you enjoyed it!
I didn't really know him to be honest but hope he rest in peace thanks for sharing GV 👍

R I P JIM 🙏🥀🌹🌹
I have to give to you, you certainly know a lot about Jim Morrison and the “Doors ! Thanks for visiting his grave I always wanted to know what the cemetery was like . From what I thought and pictures I’ve seen, it seemed like a cemetery in New Orleans . I can tell your a big fan. My favorite song is Riders on the Storm !
May he Rest In Peace 🙏🏾🙏🏾🙏🏾🙏🏾🙏🏾🙏🏾🙏🏾🙏🏾
Awesome video Sir. I love Jim and his music. A few of my favourite songs are by The Doors.. And it's great to see you're Irish like myself. Thank you for posting. And keep up the brilliant work ❤👌👏👏🇮🇪🇮🇪☘️☘️
Aw thank you for watching great to have you on the channel 👍🇮🇪
Was in Paris a few years ago, never had time to go to see Jim Morrison's grave,I've wanted to see it,shame it's not looked after better.
Glad you got to see it
Thank you for visiting Jim Morrisons grave. From the time I learned to read, I was fascinated by those who would stray away from the mundane and touch the other side. I loved, and still love, his lyrics and poetry, which in the end are one and the same. I have a deep appreciation of songs, many of which were never bonafide hits, though I think one of my favorites, People are Strange, did fairly well. Land Ho is another favorite because I would sing it with my little girl, who would gleefully scream “Land ho!” at the appropriate time. I was 16 when he died and I cried my tender teenage heart out. Strangely, though saddened about the deaths of others in the “27 Club”, I was never as grievously broken hearted as I was over Jims death. His fantastical writing wormed its way into my spirit and has never let me go. RIP James, perhaps I will see you after I break on through to the other side. Again, thank you. ❤️
GV, thank you so much for making this trip to Paris to see Jim Morrisons' grave. Sadly, I wasn't even born yet, but I can identify with Jim. He was a huge talent, taken far too soon. ❤😢
Nice tribute Cathal! He was a wonderful performer and the songs were all great--you never can forget them. It brought a tear to my eye when you said rest in peace Jim--touching really. He would be in his 80th year. His siblings are still alive--sad he isn't. Thanks for taking us there. It must have been a surreal moment for you.
Visited Paris twice but could never find his grave. Appreciate your video and your kind respectful comments xx
Loved the Doors ❤. Looking forward to this!!!! Come on baby light my fire, People are strange…….they were great!!
such a beautiful cemetery pity that it's not kept very well including Jim Morrisons one
Come on GV, Light Our Fire!!!😁

Thank you for the video as that was my brothers time of life i enjoyed that brought memories back of them for me

@@GraveVisitations 🤗❣
Thank you g v you do what people can't do I appreciate it very much God bless
Love your podcast ❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️
Thank you 😍😍😍😍😍
I made the pilgrimage to Jim's grave in 1991 from Australia. Drank some whiskey at his grave. Almost got arrested for filming there without a licence, which I didn't know I needed. I still have a pebble on my bookshelf i took from the path next to his grave. The original bust on his grave deteriorated so badly in the weather, it started to look grotesque so on the 20th anniversary of his death his father installed the new headstone there today which reads: "the famous ancient Greek inscription kata ton daimona eautou (which can be translated as “true to his own spirit” or "true to his own demon", and the bust was broken up and dug into the grave. It wasn't barracaded off when I was there and it was -10° and my friend and I were alone. I poured some whiskey into his grave. It's an amazing place with sooo many famous people interred in the cemetery. An experience I'll never forget. Unfortunately my footage was lost.
I'm glad you got to see it again through my eyes 👍
@GraveVisitations much appreciated! Noticed but haven't watched yet, YOU almost got in trouble filming at the other cemetery in Paris!
Funny when the Head of Pere Lachaise was asked "Do you think Jim Morrison really died and is really buried there?" He said, "He'd bloody better be for all the crap we have to put up with, with that grave!!!" 😜
Did think it was stolen when one on the French president came to power in the 80 s ?????
@Granto-ni9qw that's what I was told when I was there as the bust was so weathered it looked like melted wax. I've never heard it was stolen but I don't know. It would have been very heavy and it's a long was from any of the high walled perimetre wall/gates which are locked at night. 🤔
Love the Doors ❤ Jim Morrison was so handsome 😍
That photo of Jim looks familiar. 🤔..... And do know a few of his songs. I think I've seen his picture used in a movie (lost boys)..
Yes strange . people go out in the rain , when your strange... 🎶... Yes that was on the Lost boys.. So yeah I believe it was his picture hanging in the cave of the vampires.
That's so cool GV.
Great video.
I really like that movie
A most unusual and fantastic band
Great video man I am 44 and have been a life long Doors fan since I was in grade 8 and really got into them in early grade 9 this has been one of my dreams ever since than is going too visit Jim ' s grave my favorite Doors songs are the End , When the Music ' s over , Severed Garden , Soul Kitchen and Chrystal Ship and Waiting for the Sun along with his many poems just too name a few Doors fans are not made they are born .

@@GraveVisitations You are welcome brother greetings from Canada and yes the Doors was a great band When the Doors of perception are opened everything will seem as they are infinite Robert Blake .
Thank you So Much for All the hard work & traveling that y’all do! Places I will more than likely never get to see in person. Love & Light Please Stay Safe Out There! Take protection with you to these locations ❤️🙏🏼
Thank you 🙏
He is deserving of a much better monument to his life
I have the Oliver Stone movie of the Doors on dvd, im 47 and remember when the movie was in theaters, never saw it in theatre but now have it on dvd. The movie a cult classic and so raw the way Oliver Stone does it, thanks for sharing this. Stay awesome 😎📸✌️
Very cool! Thank you for watching Matthew
Great walking, Jim was a beautiful and sensitive soul, most people he was aggressive. His last years were spent in Paris, like Chopin.
Wow great info I had no idea. Thank you
A friend of ours told us, "Jim Morrison was not meant to be old , he was meant to be eternally young forever".... SO TRUE. a TRUE POET> Read his poems....Kim
You did a very nice informative tour to Jims grave. I enjoyed every minute of it. I was about his age back then and loved their music and still have the albums. Just layely I have been spending time reading the book Robbie Krieger wrote. It is a very good read and very informative.
Ah thank you very much glad you enjoyed the video. Jim and the doors were a super band.
I really enjoyed his music. Nicely done video. Thank you 😊
Glad you enjoyed it 👍

Thanks for this vid ✌️🤘🎸
Rock on!
May our beloved dead by God's loving grace REST IN PEACE.
I was just in Pere Lachaise in Aug 2023 too! saw the same flowers so we must have been there at the same time. I always visit his grave when i am in Paris.
Wow that's crazy lol small world hey thank you for watching 🌍❤️

When 1st discovered the doors in the late 70s and when read that great book no one gets out alive i could listen to the doors for hours which still holds only elvis surpassed that many hours and it still holds elvis 3 hours on you tube doors 2 1/2 hours.
Both very good music artists. I really like elvis music more tho
@@GraveVisitations same here loved Jim but his music isn't really sentimental goodbye music and these past few years I've said goodbye to alot of my people including both parents.
@@toshiojohnston3732 sorry to hear about your loss 🙏
@@GraveVisitations thank you as you ger older you lose more of your people including cultural icons and idols and losing Lisa Marie was hard seen that girl grow up so sad but she's with her father now and his music is still with us.
Very interesting story thanks for sharing GV 😊
My pleasure
Each time we go to Paris a visit to Pere Lachaise is always on our list. It is always a moving kind of existential experience to see his grave site. There are always people there. First time there I pulled out a bottle of wine a tried to drink a toast. That was interrupted by a guard quickly grabbing the bottle as he quickly and silently came from behind a tree. Almost got kicked out!!!! If you can go,,,,do it. You will be with fans.
I've had bad experiences with Paris cemetery staff lol
Nice...I was there on July 3rd 1981, ten years to the day he left us. It was great to get there and stay for a spell. At that time, there was a marble bust sitting atop the marker but was stolen and during the get away the bust fell and literally busted. Jim was one of a kind. I always wanted to believe he faked it and would return as he said he might do but he never did. He really did break on thru`~
Hey GV Hope your ok mate. How is sue?? I really hope she’s feeling better🤞🤞. Looking forward to this mate. You and sue take care and stay safe God bless you both. 😊😊😊❤❤❤
I'm grand David thanks x
Visited Paris and Jim Grave 2019.....❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤my and sister...
Lovely cemetery and city
What are wonderful? Laid back a commentary. Superbly presented. Hope you have a good time in the place not just filming 👍
I will be watching it later tonight, I was wondering if you were going to visit his grave while in France? The Doors is one of my most favorite bands, and Jim Morrison dealt with a lot of his own personal demons, and you can hear that in many of the lyrics in his songs.
All the songs you mentioned, Love me two times, love her madly, touch me and light my fire were all written by Robbie Krieger.
Great songs
It is sad but jim chose to live that way as we all do things in life we might regret, i know i wish sometimes i could turn clock back (i never taken drugs tho thank god)
Thank you :)
So much love.Tony
Jim Morrison ❤️
My brother got to see them , when he was in the army. Pam, is buried close to Jim as well.
Pam is buried in America
Great video sir, dont why i missed the premier, thought i had the reminder set, but anyway:) how was oscar, he was close by to jim
Oscar will be another video
@@GraveVisitations lovely jubbly:)
Good video GV
Merci!!!
I've never heard of this man. But it's ashame he took drugs and things good looking bloke such ashame what a waste of a life when drugs are involved blessed be jim
I didn't know anything about this man.. but I visited Oscar wildes grave there in summer 1995..
Then I had a strange experience...I remarked to my two companions..isn't it lovely they put candles on it..
I saw a row of tea lites along a ridge on the tomb....they were lit in coloured receptacles..However upon getting the photos back from developing..there was no sign of the candles.. strange but true..
Ps.i was surprised to hear baby jackdaws in there..
Oh that is a strange one about the candles spooky tales I've heard about his grave in Paris
Jimbo had some set of pipes!
Everyone went through a Doors period. Mine was in the 80s when the 60s made a resurgence. I always wanted to visit
Père-Lachaise. I liked the footage of the cemetery, but was dismayed at the condition of Jim's grave. I just thought after all of these years, it wouldn't look so junky. As a kid, it's cool. As an adult, it's like, come on, clean it up.
I think the grave was vandalised in the past. Fans still jump the fence and leave stuff but yea for sure it should be cleared up
Oh my goodness I'm not jealous in any way.(yeah I am very very jealous 😂) I want to see Jim's grave so so badly I love the Doors looking forward to this,im just catching up with videos I've not seen it looks like you and sue had the most amazing time x
I have such a great memory of visiting back when Usher had the airwaves
Good times 😁
I am an elderly woman now but I did like the Doors music.
Always good to hear from you ❤️
All these super talents, what a waste, all down to drugs. RIP Jim, thankyou for the music.
Seems fame comes with a price unfortunately to many of these stars
R. I. P. Jim
Jims haircut was created by Jay Sebring, who based on a statue of Alexander the Great. I didn't know if you knew that or not. Prior to this a guy went to a barber and only had a few old tried and true styles to choose from. Jay did him right, that is a killer doo! Jay Sebring met his demise before Jim did. I kind of wonder how this might've affected him. We never know when or how our time will come so live your best day right now. Anyways RIP Jim Morrison and Jay Sebring.
Didn't know about the haircut but I've heard of sebring and cielo drive murders
Love his music I have 2 LPS.
This is the end the only end my friends doors track from apocalypse now
Hi GV how are you today just after jumping on your channel
