I’m 24 so there’s not many friends I have that even know of the Doors so it’s always dope to see people posting videos educating and keeping their name alive
Indeed the real rock and roll stars that wrote there own songs that never had to cover others music to make a buck off of someone else! Thank you very much 💖
Be sure to check out the documentary, I believe called The Canyon, produced by Jacob Dylan, that covers the music scene of the area. Lots of Brian Wilson, Tom Petty, and Mamas and The Papas content.
I ran food concessions nightly at Topanga Corral 1978 and met and prepared delicious fresh food for its patrons and many talented musicians like Neil Young, members of Canned Heat and so many others. It was exciting. I was unfortunately attacked by two men behind the building where I stayed in my motorhome that were later identified as the Hillside Stranglers. It was a very traumatic experience I survived and I left and returned to my home in Southern Oregon 1979.

I was born in the Valley in 1956. My parents took me to the Top of Topanga. There was a burger place there. I can't remember the name but it was torn down perhaps in the late sixties. As a young guy would take dates to that lot. Just dirt then. Great view. "The Corral" is what we called the bar in Topanga. Great place to hang as almost anyone could pop in to play. There was/is a dirt road on that lot going over the hill. My friend lived in a farm house with his wife and two other families. Had a little recording studio. I played drums. It was an amazing time. I left Cally a long time ago. Still, it's nice to see the areas of my youth. Topanga Canyon has so much history that nobody knows about. Gone in the mists of time.
The RUclipsr awoke before dawn he put his boots on, he took a face from the ancient Gallery and he walked on down the hall. "Canyon". I really enjoy your videos, Thank You, keep up the great work.
Topanga canyon road is very unique place. Everytime I drive it, I always say, this place is frozen in 1969. If you read Diane Lake's book, (Manson family member) she tells you about what was happening on Topanga canyon. From the 118 freeway to Pacific Coast Highway. It was very popular with the hippies.
Jim Morrison is and will always be my favorite artist of all time. He really was a true Poet. What a beautiful place. Theres something about California and the canyons and beautiful winding roads that takes my breath away. And lots of history. Whenever I think of Topanga canyon, I can't help of think of Gary Hinman, one of the victims in the Manson murders. He lived in Topanga Canyon when Manson had sent Bobby Buesolei, Susan. Atkins and Mary Bruner to rob Hinman. And we all know how that ended unfortunately. Definitely a grim fact but history none the less.
As once quoted by Morrison himself,... There is life, and there is death,.....and in between,....... There are the Doors. Long live the legend of The Lizard King and long live The Grimmlifer Legion! Awesome video as always. We Grimmlifers hope you NEVER run out of places to travel to and do videos on. Cool stuff. Happy Halloween!
You’re a gifted story teller and that’s why I enjoy you’re Chanel so much. Yes the grim side of life is very fascinating. But history in general is great and I hope you do a follow up video of this with the other folks you mentioned about topanga canyon
I had friends who played at Topanga Corral all the time. I knew Larry Taylor , the bassist from Canned Heat, and he talked about the Corrall all the time.
@@paulcooper5748 that is true!! I was madly in love with Jim for a while back in 92. For a few years. My best friend and I watched the movie The Doors so often while drinking 5ths of ol Jose Quervo that we were almost convinced Val Kilmer was Jim's kid😂😂😂😂 Val done all the singing in that movie I'd heard not long ago in a RUclips video of "The tragic story of Val Kilmer". We were crazy then✌💖 to ya.
I remember as a kid in Vancouver, there was a restaurant called the Topanga Cafe. We'd sometimes go there as a treat. I guess someone went to California and got inspired. It was a Mexicali restaurant.
It seems like a good time to bring this up. Michael's finger coming into frame to point out details makes me laugh every time. Don't really know why, it just strikes me funny. Everybody, have a good weekend and let someone close to you know how important they are. GRIMM FOR LIFE!
The Roadhouse baby The Roadhouse awesome thank you guys Michael and Jessica you guys are the rock and rollers of the Grimm life collection much love from Huntington West Virginia 🙏❤️😳🥰
The Canyon has so much history. The original Alice Cooper band lived there around 1969 when they first came to southern California and he tells a story about, how they'd see these hippies at one of the gas stations; a real big group of them. Well, it turns out it was the Manson Family they were always running across. Not sure what gas station/convenience store it would have been.
Another great video!!! Have you thought about doing a location video for The Burbs??? The Burbs would be soooo cool!!!!! And how about a tour of Laurel Canyon, that would be so cool too....walking in the footsteps of Neil Young, Joni Mitchel and all the awesome bands of the 60s!?!?!
Your talk of the road reminded me that I hitchhiked through Topanga Canyon from the valley to the coast one morning after a late party. Got a ride in the back of a van with no doors on it. He drove fast. That was kinda hairy.
I traveled Topanga Canyon on a regular basis going from the San Fernando Valley to the beach always a sight to see I also remember an album I had back in the 70s Canned Heat at Topanga Coral

Wish I knew where to look for this, I love Roadhouse Blues and would have loved to see the land in person. Don't think I was anywhere near there (was driving north on PCH, right on Sunset and left on Topanga) was the general area.
I've been to Jim Morrisons final resting place in Paris. It would be cool to see you go to Paris and find where Jim Morrison lived, died, and everything else.
Loved the video! I think that although the Door's are not necessarily Grimm, they sorta are and they belong on your channel. Along with your great narration and camerawork, it makes the history come alive

Makes me think of the "Terror in Topanga" section of the 80s horror anthology movie "Nightmares". "Friday the 13th The Final Chapter" was also filmed in Topanga.
I spent my first night after arriving from Takilma Oregon 1977 & was parked here at Top of Topanga, but there wasn't a park here, just dirt open area where my boyfriend Don Massey whom had grew up in LA area and Pomona, he quite a bit older than I by 19 years my senior and I was 17 years old. We came down from our home in our RV Schoolbus. This spot always in my memories because after arriving at thus spot late night and my first morning here, while I cooked our breakfast my boyfriend went for a hike down the hill and like I normally did to let him know his food ready to eat I walked over to the edge and hollered at him to come eat and I returned back to bus, sat down eating my food when suddenly I looked out window and saw police cars surrounded our bus, I quickly exited out to see what was going on, an large group of police officers approached me and one of them in front identified himself and his fellow officers to me telling me they were the Hillside Strangler Task Force and that they'd received report of a woman screaming in the area, I realized it was me that someone must've heard hollering when I was trying to get Don's attention to come eat, so I explaining to them my actions and about this time Don appeared on foot walking towards us and he verified my story and shortly they dispersed and left the scene. Later that same day both Don and I had driven down to see an old friend of his named Gary Dokken that was employed as a bouncer for the Topanga Corral Nightclub and he introduced us to the Owners Sandy Freeman and Sidney Fish and after discussion, they agreed to hire us as caretakers and allowed for us to park our bus behind the building and we also operated food concessions for the Corral Mexican & American Cuisines, we also cleaned the building daily prior to business hours. We became friends with members of music group Canned Heat, Bob Hite aka the Bear really liked a specialty pie I made Orange Custard and I always had one ready for him to take home when they left. I met many musicians and celebrities while I lived and worked at the Topanga Corral Nightclub in 1977, 78. We returned to Oregon January 1979.

I live right near Topanga Canyon and I've been to The Top of Topanga. I didn't even know there were hiking trails. I just thought it was a dirt parking lot. I did take pictures of the valley down below but it was a smoggy day so the pictures didn't come out well. It was just a bunch of rooftops of houses anyway. Not very pretty at all. But, If you take Topanga all the way south, you end up at the beach.

I forgot to mention that while working at Topanga Corral Nightclub, in which movie scenes were filmed here, I was an extra in bar fight scene of movie "Flatbed Annie & Sweetie Pie- Lady Truckers" that starred Kim Darby & Annie Potts (1979), but the actual filming took place summer 1978. Another film crew of "The Elvis Presley Story" used this place for certain scenes while we were there. My how time flies. I was 17 years old (Legally Emancipated Minor at 16 years of age in Oregon) and the Owners of the Topanga Corral celebrated my 18th Birthday and Canned Heat played my Birthday Song.
My husband and I had already bought an acre in Topanga to build the house that I am sitting in today. Once we broke ground on this house, I knew we would never leave. Had I gone outside, and listened very intensely, I may have heard a special birthday celebration sounding like Canned Heat. . . and pretended it was for me.
Hi! I think that your channel is very nice! :) I find interesting the way you present the places and people you see and visit. I did not know everything about Jim Morrison. The only thing I know it is that he is buried in my home town. (I live in Paris, if you need a hand for anything about tombs/graveyards or another place you heard about in Paris I can help you :) )
A great follow up to the hangin' tree, I would mention maybe it's better to space things about a bit. The southland does have a lot of things to post about but there's a possibility of running out of must sees(?)
You two would have loved living in NYC in the 80's and 90's when I was there. The East Village would have been a place that you would NEVER want to leave. It's not the same now, so I would avoid it.
I’m 24 so there’s not many friends I have that even know of the Doors so it’s always dope to see people posting videos educating and keeping their name alive

It is also mysterious how he died too

(I live in Paris, if you need a hand for anything about tombs/graveyards or another place you heard about in Paris I can help you :) )
Welcome to the VALLEY 818 💯💯💯💯💯🇲🇽🇲🇽
A great follow up to the hangin' tree, I would mention maybe it's better to space things about a bit. The southland does have a lot of things to post about but there's a possibility of running out of must sees(?)
I always have to put on the Doors for a night drive to Las Vegas.
Five to one .this a awesome video.
Long live the lizard king.
You two would have loved living in NYC in the 80's and 90's when I was there. The East Village would have been a place that you would NEVER want to leave. It's not the same now, so I would avoid it.
