Great video, Jordan ! I have about ten watches since you posted. I believe the photo at 12:15 was taken at the 'Broken Arrow' Ranch in N. Calif. On Bear Gulch Road, Redwood City, Cal. Follow Bear Gulch west to Alston Rd. then make a right. When you come to the first left curve, Neil's 'Broken Arrow Ranch' is right in front of you, as is 'Redwood Digital' studio. The woman in the photo is Carrie Snodgrass and that is Zeke on his lap. 'A Man Needs A Maid' was written here for Carrie and 'All Her Friends!" that "Filled the Ranch!"
i was born at 650 topanga canyon blvd in 1964, my parents were part of what they describe as a beatnik scene with lots of entertainment industry people, they were friends with Dean and crossed paths with Neil as it was a small community. i remember moving to beverly hills when my parents divorced in 75 and being much happier, it sucked being in the canyon as a kid too young to drive. the smell of pine and eucalyptus, playing on the trails and creek, the beach, you were either climbing up or down. trippy.
You know Jordan you hit the nail on the head here. Neil Youngs album was so influential in my life as I grew up through my youth into young adulthood. I lived couch surfing above in the mtns and below was the desert of Palm springs/Palm desert where i grew up. Having difficult times with life and parents i just found his album to be calming effect. The mountains with my friends on the Indian reservations and the small town of Anza and above in Idyllwild i found my release. Neil's Music fit perfect to accompany me through those tranquil times
Neil Young is perhaps the greatest singer that touched my heart with his songs and lyrics. He truly has a heart of gold. May his tribe increase. May he live longer and in good health. I wish there is a chance to meet him or to attend his concerts. Hope to meet him one day, sir.
Beautiful Topanga Canyon view. That fog added to the mystique of canyon lore. That’s the closest I’ll ever get to these hidden gems along the mountain side plus Neil Young’s creative stomping ground. Very cool 😎. Even though this video was done 4 yrs ago, it still sounds fresh & current for those of us that from that era. How time flies by. Thank you Jordan for all your efforts and hard work. Be safe and continue enjoying your adventures and enjoying Jah. ❤️🙏🏻🐕🦺
there is nearly nothing Neil ever did that I don't like .I even like his lead guitar playing, which puts me in a rare group. saw him w/ CRAZY HORSE in the '80's.Thanx, Jordan.
The World doesn't know... In 1977 in Santa Cruz, at Cowells Beach, I took Neil surfing.... The next day we went to Doug Hauts surf shop and Neil had a Long Board shaped....... Neil digs surfers..
Just came across your videos a few days ago and im enjoying them so much! I've always wanted to visit LA and I feel like im there watching these. Thank you!
Wow. I used to be a huge Neil Young fan, but haven't listened to any of his music in a long time. Now I have to dig out that album, and listen to it. Jordan, I was impressed with your knowledge of that album, and the house. I enjoyed the walk up the hill, and then the views of the canyon itself. Great job, Jordan. Thank you!
It was near this point, that Neil Young, would buy a ranch in Half Moon Bay California ( north) from three lawyers. Where the ranch hand ( Louis Avila ) would become an inspiration for the ever classic Old Man
I had to stop and listen to 'When You Dance' before watching the rest of the vlog - cuz' I knew it was gonna' be that good. Jordan, thank you - I looooooove Neil Young, and as always you tell his story so very well. As I go back through your earlier vlogs, I am more and more amazed at how talented you are at this - and how much you seemed to grow in confidence and ability with each vlog. Way to rock it. You're an old soul, and every bit as unique as the wonderful Neil Young, who to me is the definition of an artist - willing to walk away from the more commercial 'norm' to be true to his own style.
I couldn't believe that was fog! I was waiting for you to say there was a fire up in the hills someplace. That was weird. Thanks for the great job and all the info on that album, Jordan.
Jordan the lion; Great, entertaining vlog. I really enjoyed looking at Neil Young's house in Topanga. Hey, you also looked at one of the last films of Bella Logosi shot here in Sylmar; Great work on your part. Thank you so much for your editing and shooting at the Gold Rush house; I loved it. Keep your interest and your vlog going so that I may enjoy watching. Thank you Jordan. ..David
Great stuff and history, thanks for sharing....Gold Rush and Everyone Knows This Is Nowhere are hard to beat back to back, always such a western/Cali feel.
Watching from Detroit. Your interest in this great musician his life and the walking tour up to house is great. People in the flat lands like me don't appreciate hills like that often. Very nice guided tour and commentary. thumbs up #135
I had to stop watching! You made me have to refresh my love for Neil's music. Thank you! Now I'll finish the vlog. Finished it and loved it. Thanks. again.
That was an excellent album. With Neil's voice it made it all that much better! What is cool is that your generation also appreciates this amazing piece of work and the man.
Jordan thanks so much. its magical to see the place where that happened. topanga looks like an amazing place to live. reminds me of my old place up in the mountains in Taiwan. I must have moved there cause I was looking for a place like that. I wonder if Neil ever goes back there. 17,000 dollars sounds like not a lot of money and doesnt sound like a big advance but that is 120,000 in todays money
Hey Jordan! Did what ya said and listened to the album on RUclips!! It was GREAT!! I still remember my brother telling me back in the day how Lynyrd Skynyrd's response to Southern man was Sweet Home Alabama. I pulled up that song too just to hear the familiar retort within the song. I love that song too!
ca native, born and raised thru this canyon.....i can tell u all its a beautiful place but not exactly an "escape" from hollywood...(its only ten minutes away.)...if u like the beauty of topanga, take a ride thru tuna canyon, or visit malibu state park.
very cool Vlog I learned a lot and I'm a huge Neil Young fan I seem to remember that house is up for sale not too long ago amazing information thanks for a great video Jordon
Jordan, I just want to thank you for doing these, in my youth I used to go on very similar adventures. I hope one of these day's you can do the downtown Doheny mansion and the awesome grounds. I used to do volunteer work for one of the nuns and since she couldn't pay me she gave me beautiful costumes that had been donated by MGM. Wish I could share some of the anecdotal stories she shared. SCANDALOUS! lol
Wow!! Now that ive seen his house an informed of where he wrote the album an the views he had frm his balcony im gna dwn load this album take a walk an imagine what he was thinking. Michaels house en yard en view is like the BLUE MOUNTAINS in sydney. " BEAUTIFUL
I recently became a subscriber to your channel, and have been watching some of your older videos. When you said, in #336 (Ringo's 77th Birthday), that you weren't much of a Beatles fan, that felt like a punch in the gut. You lost a couple of Brownie points with me. But you redeemed yourself here when you said that Neil Young is one of your favorite musicians of all time, and that this particular LP is one of your favs too.
Wow what an interesting story, I didn't know this was where he met his wife, Pegi Young, I have her two albums. Funny how things seem to fall in line for people! I also love "After the Goldrush," "I was sitting in the burned out basement..." Bob were the critics wrong and he sure does have a unique sort of voice. maybe, Jordan, it's voice that made the man what he is today! Love your vlogs!
There's 4 women who counted a lot in Neil Young's life, besides his mum. 1969-70 : Susan Acevedo, waitress, his first wife. They lived in Topanga canyon house. 1971-74: Carrie Snodgress, actress, mother of his first son Zeke Young. They lived at Broken Arrow ranch by Redwood. 1978-2014 : Pegi Morton, waitress, second wife and mother of Ben and Amber Jean Young. They lived at Broken Arrow ranch. 2014- now: Daryl Hannah, actress and ecology activist, third wife. They lived in Malibu, then in Colorado, by Telluride.

That's a great song. That house looked cool from the pictures you showed.
Joe Walsh of the Eagles has a much worse voive. In my opinion he can't sing at all! I would prefer Neil Young any day!!
