Hey bro i changed the water pump on my a4 b8 2.0t quattro and flushed everything, put new coolant in and i changed my cooling fan control module, now its all back together and my radiator stays cool even after running awhile, i got blazing hot heat inside the cab i just think its not circulating through the radiator? Is that make sense? I need some help and not the dealers, i used the oem radiator filll kit that uses the air compressor to create a vacuum to fill the system, any help would be greatly appreciated.
I have to say that your videos are outstanding. I own a shop and admit I'm not an Audi guy, but I never turn away work. Was able to complete the job very quick from the help of your video. Hardest part was the belt... Keep up the great work!
I changed the original water pump on my 2013 VW 2.0 TSI CC. I watched your videos. The VW was a little trickier than the Audi. The hardest thing was getting the charge pipe off of the throttle body and removing the throttle body bolts. There are two Copland lines that come from the passenger side of the engine remove those first, it gives more access to the throttle body bolts. I used the Graf aluminum water pump. Seems to have stopped the leak. Thanks for your videos they are very useful and entertaining.
Man I wish I'd seen your videos prior to working on my daughters Audi Q3 with 106k miles! Had to replace the Radiator so while I was at it, I decided to replace the water pump, the intake manifold (throwing a code), PCV, and will be doing the timing chain as well using your video that I watched yesterday.
Still using these videos Naptown! My son and I changed his entire engine on his 2009 with your videos. I'm not a mecanic, I'm in software, but learned so much from you. Thank you once again for the tips and tricks.
so question was your coolant temp sensor on the waterpump or was it in a different place. I have a 2011 audi a5 with some a4 parts installed and im thinking its my coolant temp sensor thats causing my radiator fans not to spin when the ac is on. its either that or the fan motors died out. I already replaced the 60a fuse in the centeral terminal checked the fuses in the panels and replace the fan control module and still nothing.
Just what I needed to see. I replaced mine today and was abit unsure of the belt as it wasn't hugely tensioned. But your video I can see the belt is easy to deflect like mine so at least I know its all correct
Ok now I am confused. I saw another vid showing thermostat replacement. Not water pump. I have 2007 2.0 ( b7) My car temp is running very cool. Very low heat on the heater. I have had mil engine temp codes. Any advice is appreciated
I was actually hoping you would show the removal of the temperature sensor. I am having a fan problem that does not come on it starts to come on but does not actually come on it spins around a couple times and then stops if I apply current directly the fan runs fine. So I need to replace the temperature sensor preferably without pulling the whole pump out and the intake and pulling the engine out and so on and so forth that means I have to know exactly how it becomes disconnected and pops out
I'm done with VWAG/Audi. Plastic cooling systems, plastic oil pans, plastic everything. I like metal much more. Remember metal? It lasted through the life of the vehicle.
This video was very helpful when I did the water pump 8 months ago but now I’m having issues with the coolant temp sensor not operating.. temp on gauge won’t read and fan always on. I replaced the temp sensor and everything was fine until the next day after a 90 mile drive it failed again and back to the same symptoms.. can it be that the temp sensor from o’reillys auto parts suck?

Any recommendations on what milage should you be looking to replace this water pump? Also would you advise replacing with the all aluminum upgrade for longer service life? Thank you Naptown turner
Hi, I am currently working on a 2011 audi a5 that has overheating issue. I took apart the water pump to inspect and noticed the balance shaft that drives the belt for the pump is not moving. Basically the pump is fine, but that shaft does not turn when the engine turns over. Any idea what part I need to replace to fix this? Thanks.
So I got a leak somewhere cant see it leaking leaks alot all I see if it leaking down the oil pan on drivers side coming from up top somewhere oil pump was put on 1000 miles ago back of engine where coolant flange is seems dry nothing on trans any ideas coolant comes to front of oil pan
Hi i recently did a pretty big 2.0t tsi vw rebuild and im left with a small metal peice smaller then a penny. It looks like the bit keeper on a drill but with out the teeth to move it foward trying to figure out how to upload a photo
Just changed my pump it is leaking from the small nipple that connects to the small heat exchanger. I even replaced the o-rings with new ones. Any ideas?
Hi. Nice video. I have a question? how do you bleed the air out from the sistem after you change this pump. The car do this automaticaly or you have to do something else. Thanks ;)
Exactly what I needed to see my 2.0 is setting a cooling performance code, so I figure I need to replace that whole module since the t-stat is in there. Do you have a opinion on the upgraded aluminum water pump modules? I am not so sure I could l do that with the intake still bolted up though. Maybe I will look into taking it off and doing some carbon cleaning.
Thomas Hoyt here is the intake video, ruclips.net/video/kR8zLHJVrNY/видео.html valve cleaning helps but I don’t typically do it unless there is an issue. Only needed to do it like 10 times in 9 years on this engine but I prefer to just do a rebuilt cylinder head on a car I plan to keep. No experience with the aluminum water pump someone had a cast-iron water pump and it didn’t fit right had to replace it. In this video when I show the other engine with the balance shafts look at that water pump.. there is a aluminum piece in the updated water pump and it looks like that.
I explained in this video that I’m showing it so you can get the best view outside the car.. and that you should do it with the intake still installed.
I have a 2013 VW CC Sport with the 2.0 TSI engine, is it possible to change the water pump without having to remove the intake manifold, since it is a transverse engine? doesn’t seem to be as much room as in the Audi’s.
i did one a few ago on a 2013 vw golf gti did it without removing intake manifold. was a pain in the arse but doable. take the throttle body off. the audi intake manifolds look much easier ti take manifolds off tho
The wires to the coolant temp sensor pulled out of the plug on a 2008passat 2.0t and don’t know wihich wire goes where on the plug or doesn’t it matter?
That’s why I save old wire harnesses, I don’t know for sure if it matters but I’d put it back the way it was. Sometimes you can take the plug apart and find enough evidence of the old wires to put it back together
The wires pulled right out of the plug so there was nothing to go by, I replaced the water pump and now a few seconds after starting the car both fans turn on full force. I went by your video and it was a great help, I dint replace the coolant temp sensor and tried wiring both ways and fans still run full speed. Nothing was wrong except for a leak prior to replacing. Any help would be great
Go to your local junkyard and chop off the connector and butsplice connect it. Even if you get it right it’s going to take about 10min unless you clear the faults
Already been to the two in my area but didn’t have anything but I was able to get the right plug just wasnt to the sensor, it’s been one of those projects where if it can go wrong it did including someone else previously worked on the car and I had to put things back the way they should have been. I appreciate what you do and your videos, best ones out there that I’ve found. Thank you, somehow I’ll figure it out on my own.
I finally figured out what was causing the fans to start up justAfter starting the car. The plug I got to replace the one that was on the car must have been corroded or something inside the pin, check for continuity and one side was dead so luckily while at the junk yard I grabbed a couple and switched it out, now runs like a top again, thank you for the help it was enough to get me to think and figure it out, except for all the if it could go wrong it did your video and instruction made things easy.
I just pulled mine apart, realized the small pulley is broken which is why it wasnt cooling the engine, how hard is it to put a new pulley back? Pls help!
Be honest, you broke it didn’t you? If it broke itself for some crazy reason I would feel it necessary to remove the entire intake balance shaft for inspection. If you broke it trying to remove it you’re gonna still have a bad time but it might spin out with a right angle pick (reverse thread)
I paid some dummy ti change my thermostat. Housing and i think he porbably put it on wrong and it popped after 3 months or so, is there a vid i can follow of you dismounting the intake etc?
I was able to take the belt off, i have it in my hands, i want to know what i have to do to put in a new one, i might have to change the whole waterpump anyways, bc there was a coolant leak and it looked like it was coming from the waterpump, i did not do a preasure test before taking it out so i dnt know exactly where the leak was coming from, it honesty looked like it was coming from the water pump area, and i assumed it was the water pump, also my car kinda overheated bc i saw the needle go to the high side...
Thermostat is Contained in the water pump housing and is usually all replaced as a single unit. Read the description on your new pump when ordering to make sure it says includes thermostat
My friend u need to learn more coz out side engine nd u strugling what abt if the engine in side the car i dont think so u gona do that waterpump , u can fit without belt waterpump first, tight the waterpump bolt , then after put the belt on waterpump gear nd turn the creankshaft pully anticlock wise !!

Id like to add, whenever that union or any plastic material turns brown in color, replace it. The plastic is deteriorated and brittle.

Nope. The balance shaft is timed (of course), but the water pump toothed belt is not.
