Thank you for posting this. I just noticed that my car isn’t reaching operating temp so it looks like a new thermostat is in order. Audi puts so many objects in the way, sheesh. Still easier to access than the coolant flange though. (I replaced that a few years ago).
Min 8:14 what are those connectors called well the right hand side the smaller one , what is that connectors for and what it's called . I been looking through the web and cant find nothing . If you can answer this your a life saver
Hey idk if your still responding but I just picked up an 07 a4 2.0t and I’m pretty sure that I’m experiencing an open thermostat. Taking a decent amount of time to warm up and experience off and on throttle lag. Not sure if the thermostat affects that and I’m not experiencing any leaks so that’s why I’m here 🤣
How insanely ridiculous to have to remove all of that to replace what's consudered a maintenance/wear part. I love driving my B7, but some of the maintenance and working on it is just stupid.
Maybe I’m not to sure what year they changed, I know they changed and the thermostat is a actually part of the water pump assembly and you have to change the whole water pump assembly on those
Yeah apparently I have a use car that I'm working on. It's a 2012 audi a4 wagon and it has a permanent code. P2181 and can't sell it because the smog guy needs that code to be code
@@Itsdazeni For real. So I heard these engines are pretty reliable it's all the sensors that constantly fail. Mine needs a new thermostat, 02 sensor on bank 1 which I hope is the cause of the misfire in cylinder 1 and 2, and a Turbo Diverter Valve and I just bought it for 2,800. I miss my Honda lol
They do have a piston and spring, it's inside the housing. The housing is a weird shape because of the angles of the coolant pipes that connect to the housing.
my mechanic told me he thinks that this is the problem with my car after he fixed a leak that was in the back of my engine because my car keeps overheating
@@heyyitssdianaa4 sounds like you need a new mechanic lol so on this engine there’s a water pump in the back of the engine close to where this thermostat is. Those water pumps always leak but I’ve seen on a several of these cars with this engine where the thermostat causing over heating issues and coolant temp sensor on the back of the cylinder head not reading properly. But your mechanic should make sure everything is working proper ie. your cooling system is flowing meaning no restrictions in radiator or water pump not circulating Making sure the recovery tank cap is holding proper pressure, or making sure the cooling fans are turning on when they’re suppose too. And if the thermostat is opening or staying stuck closed. And worst case scenario making sure you don’t have blown head gaskets.
@@heyyitssdianaa4 hope this helps as for the cost the thermostat I believe pays 5 hours typical shop charges $100/hr so $500 plus parts so maybe around $800 using original Audi parts not no cheap after market stuff.

No trouble codes? An ETC that is reporting cold can cause hard starts or rough idle issues

By any chance still have part number for the housing?
wat is the metal pipe going into thermostat houseing mine keeps poping out ????? how to pls help
how much would this labor cost?
Great video. Very informative. I never thought about soaring penatrating fluid on the plastic hoses. Im gonna do that from now on.
I have noticed it definitely helps a lot with removal and installing these types of hoses especially on like ford & Chevy diesels
@@Itsdazeni vw and audi would help to.

would it be the same process on a 2011

Does the housing comes with the thermostat inside? Thanks
Yeah it does
How many hours does this pay?
Like 5 hrs

How stupid we can positioning a Coolant Thermostat?
Audi/VW: Yes!
Mine is also bad, but I ignore it.
This works with an Audi A4 Quattro, right?
Quattro just means 4wd so I assumed yes
I hate how they don't just use the good ol Piston and spring thermostat that just takes 5 minutes to replace 🤦♂️
They gotta be “different” Lmao

he thought the leak was causing the overheating so that alone was 400$ to fix ans he told me it would be around an extra 400$ for the thermostat

On a 2015 2.0 TT TSFI its nearly £900 - I just had a quote from Audi !!
It's easier if you just drop the engine and transmission.
It’s actually easier to just trade the car in
😂
Tackling this job on my tdi quattro and it's a bitch.
Nah, then you're screwing up your alignment (and tires, because camber will be off) because you have to undue and drop the sub frame.
Will this fit a 2011 audi a4 ??
well, you asking for b8, not even mentioned engine. I can say its different from b8 3.0t and 3.0tdi.
Good work.
Thanks!
Second time I paid to replace it in 3 years. This time it was with the oil filter housing. $770 in just labor 😖.
