@@lagomholly I think you overcome perfectionism by identifying and facing it again and again. Act and take action when things are not perfect, it will start messy or unpolished but any sculpture goes through the same process and eventually ends up a work of art
I used to have the most vigorous schedule that I HAD to get everything done before I went to sleep I was up till 3 am constantly! I hated life, I hated everything around me as I merely saw them as intrusions to me getting my daily list done. I FINALLY started to keep my list but I know that what I could not do today, no big deal, that is what tomorrow is for. It's not easy but I'm finally realizing that people in my life are a blessing, such as family and friends, and I get what I can done on my list, it isn't the perfect way I want it but I was not enjoying life at all. Now I am... Thank you for being here for us.! Charlene
Thank you for sharing this, that does sound truly brutal indeed and no way to live at all. I think when things get to that stage you have to assess whether its worth it. Life is so short and we never know what's round the corner we have to somewhat find enjoyment in the current stage we're at! I'm glad to hear you're feeling better about things and are on the right path to a better balance. Wishing you the best 💛
You’ve got to let go and be authentic and go with the flow. If everything was perfect you would never learn and grow, and once you’re loose you are free of any outcome. That way you go beyond limitations and expectation, creating art and it releases you to feel really deep joy.
Love your opening sentiment: “Perfectionism is a prison and you’re serving a life sentence”. It hinders our progress. Embracing imperfections can be liberating and help us grow. This is so profound! 💛💛
Nice to bring that Holly! I think everyone has a different definition of perfectionism and for some people, perfectionism could include how to manage calmness while for some people it's just going 100% on everything. At the end of the day, nobody fully understands the true process of being "perfect but we all agree that there is always new things to refine. Accepting that we could not be good at eveything is a first step to be free from that addiction but it requires awareness. That awareness is found by failing at being perfect (in our own definition). At the end of the day, flexibilty is the thing that get us closer to perfectionism, even though it does not really exist. - As humans, we have limitations, we could not learn everything without forgetting. We are a different version of ourself every second, so progress will never be linear. Flaws and failing allow us to discover new paths and bring diversity to our development. I personally struggle with consistancy. Sometimes, I disconnect too long from thinking. At the beginning I could find peace but after a certain period, everthing falls apart cause I won't remember how to think and I won't understand anything
Thank you for sharing your thoughts here, I enjoyed reading your perspective on this! ✨ I totally agree that perfectionism is subjective and we all have our own battles with this concept but I really like the point you made about flexibility and I genuinely think thats the key. It's a skill though that takes time but has certainly helped me in the past with perfectionist tendencies and you never know it could actually end up working out better this way than you initially anticipated 😃 Thank you for watching!
Love this message Holly :-) it actually really spoke to me because perfectionism is one of my biggest weaknesses, if not perhaps the biggest. It's a hard life to live, if you hold yourself to such high standards, it is a prison. The reason why I'm recently learning to go easier on myself, is because if I don't I may unintentionally reflect that towards others, in placing high expectations on them. Beauty is in imperfection, when you said "it's actually like that imperfection makes me love them even more" that was really sweet. There is nothing more beautiful than someone you can truly be yourself around, flaws and all :-)
So glad you enjoyed this Stephen and it resonated with you too!☺️ I can certainly relate and it was a huge weakness that held me back with a lot of things (and still likes to raise it’s head every now and again)🙃 I think the key for me is knowing the difference between high standards and high expectations. I think high standards are a good thing as it marries well with doing your best and holding yourself accountable. But the issue comes with high expectations and how you think things should be, never being at peace with anything else. That’s where perfectionism is so damaging as nothing will ever be good enough to fit in with the expectations you get set on. That’s why for me simply doing your best has brought so much peace and allowed for a “it is what it is” mindset that perfectionism prohibits. It’s true though there’s so much beauty in imperfection and focusing on that has enabled me to embrace it too☺️ Thanks for watching!✨
@lagomholly Wow, Holly, your message just about brought tears to my eyes 🥹 that you obviously took the time to write me such a beautiful and long message, thank you so much :-) your advice is so good, I could take a picture of it, frame it, and put it on my bedroom wall, because that's how much your words touched me. I really have nothing to add to what you said because it's just so perfect (and ironically we're speaking about perfectionism lol) it really spoke to me and helped me on such a deep level, words I will treasure. Thank you for opening up to me and sharing your beautiful wisdom with me, and your struggle. I have a lot of love for you Holly ❤️ even if we are on literal other sides of the world. I was in a rough patch before, but I'm going on a road trip to Sydney this weekend to re-unite with a good friend I haven't seen in so many years, and a group of us are going to see two massive heavy metal bands called I Prevail and Parkway Drive (yes I love metal sometimes lol) in a big olympic arena. Your message is the biggest highlight of my week leading up to what will be an even more beautiful weekend because of your kind and encouraging words, so thank you so much, beautiful & lovely Holly :-)
@@stephenmacafee5478 no problem at all, that's so lovely to hear Stephen and I'm glad these words were a little helpful ☺ It's so humbling to connect with a like mind and hear your experiences that resonate with me too. Wishing you all the best for a safe journey and fun time in Sydney with your friend! I appreciate your support as always ✨
@lagomholly Thanks so much Holly, I really appreciate it! Sorry I know that message was quite long lol, but I just wanted to express my gratitude before I go, appreciate you taking the time to read it :-) and it always makes me happy to connect with you too, Holly, and to hear your experiences. I hope you have a lovely weekend, and I'm always happy to support you :-)
I think the worst part about perfectionism is that sometimes the thought of it not being being perfect or not coming out perfect, can stop you from doing it at all, and then you end up doing nothing, because you were afraid that it wasn't going to come out perfect. A lot of the things that we celebrate, were done on a whim or without too much mind to it, and others see the beauty of it, even though it was made through imperfection. It's all a matter of perspective. That being said, I think over time you will start slowly seeing ways to improve and little-by-little create your own brand and style of doing things. That's how you'll be able to perfect yourself and improve, but you'll be perfecting yourself in the way that you are meant and not the way someone else is, because you don't have the same exact skills or physicalities as someone else. Then, there's the idea that nothing is ever perfect. Even the best movie ever, is going to have some little editing mistake or something. It's almost impossible to do everything right, but you can get close to it over time, but never all the way perfect and that's okay. Definitely another good topic, Holly.
Thank you for sharing this and offering your perspective, that's an interesting away of looking at it! I totally agree that "perfect" is simply impossible but also a matter of subjectivity. We may think a movie was "perfect" but the directors and cast may have thought differently. I think focusing on our best will always be the most important and more powerful than perfect could ever be ☺️ Thank you for watching! ✨
Grass is not always greener on the other side. Other people's lives are mostly only known from the outside, and we only see what we are allowed to see 😊
If perfectionism and being perfect does not exist (according to you) how come this video is absolutely perfect? / I have not seen all videos of yours yet but based on those I have seen you seem to be the right person I´d like to be friends with.
Thank you for your comment and kind words, but I certainly don't think this video was perfect by any means! Always room for improvement and growth which is what I think makes life so sweet ☺️
Have you struggled with perfectionism?🤷♀️ If so how have you overcome it?✨
