I still own my 1984 replica, since I bought the comic in 1988. Therefore, not an original print. Just to be clear. My Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles #1 in black and white comic book. As for determining which iteration on the silver screen was the BEST? Definitely the 1990 Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles film. Based on the 1984 original comic. It had the best story, the turtles looked great thanks mostly to Jim Henson, and the fight choreography was superb. As opposed to the shit that came after. And don't get me started on Michael Bay's turtles. Fuck that guy. The 1990 film was great. It wasn't perfect. But it was great. I own the Blu-ray and watch it at least once a year.
Well, if you watch the 2003 TMNT cartoon, it was pretty close to the original comic books. But yeah, maybe a direct-to-dvd dark TMNT movie will be great.
Great channel, I love these types of vids. Very informative and full of great trivia! Keep 'em coming. Would love to see more about comic book adaptations.
I guess Turtles Forever is the closest we'll ever get to an animated version of the Mirage comics. But man, that would be sweet if an animated version of the 1st issue was ever made.
Killing someone doesn't make it dark. Even magical girls cartoons show them kill the enemies and they aren't dark. In the 2003 series, the Turtles actually kill a bunch of people like when they made the Crystal Moon exploded, killing an entire city of Y'Lyntians.
The joke of the original comic was that a group of trained killers going through gritty and action packed fights and adventures were called teenage mutant ninja turtles. The genuinely introspective and heartfelt moments make the concept funnier. It's why the creators, Peter Laird in particular, had reservations about the 1987 show, it missed the point and went all the way into the corny.
You keep throwing the word murder around. That the turtles had a mission to "murder" the shredder when it's obvious there would be a battle. I would say "kill" sure and I agree with dark but murder seems a little harsh.
If I were merely paying back an eye for an eye I'd say perhaps vengeance and a plain kill. If the payback is personal, deeply felt and emotionally attached to the task I'd claim my kill as a ruthless murder with glee. Make them feel it.
3:43 Wow, so that's where the scene from the 2012 version came in. When Casey Jones did the exact same thing. I like how the 2012 version still keeps in touch with the old shows/movies.
Please do more research in the future, as you clearly weren't aware that TMNT (1990) was an adaptation of the comic book, not the cartoon, as those rights were sold separately. This is why characters from the cartoon - Krang, Beebop and Rocksteady, didn't make an appearance in any films until this year, when those rights were finally acquired.
I would love a gritty 80s aesthetic of a turtles cartoon where it's not afraid to get dark but balanced out with light hearted moments like a shonen anime. It could get bloody, gritty, dirty and the turtles are not afraid to throw down even resulting in killings their enemies
Court of Source If you really want to know, then sure. +Angry Bee Checked out some ASMR vids. The compliment is well appreciated, because my voice was originally a part of this that I had real concern about. I'll make sure to keep the content interesting. Thank you buddy.
I’d like a live action or animated series on Paramount+ where the Turtles are grittier. It doesn’t need to be overly adult oriented. Just have it at least as dark as the 1990 film, a little more blood, maybe an occasional f-bomb, make Shredder scary. The turtles’ portrayal can still be their normal selves. Give it the atmospheric mix of an underground hip-hop and grunge rock music video.
Let's not forget about TMNT 2003th cartoon. This one is the closest to dark and cruel turtle's nature, at least much more on point, comparing to other tv-shows we had. We really need R rated TMNT movie in our future!
That’s why I always loved the comics a bit more than the shows. I hope they make a movie or show based closer on the comics one day, I wanna see Leo actually use them fucking swords on someone
OG Karens & Kens bitched that TMNT was "too dark for children". When bad & negligent parenting was to blame, like always. Fast forward a few years later & you got the colorful animation and new cartoons that were family friendly. Splinter raised the Turtles to be assassins in the art of ninjitsu & H2H. The original comic line, the turtles murked folks. Shredder's final fight is gruesome and no joke.
TMNT has been fun, kid friendly and innocent since 1987, I'm down with a (what Mikey said in the animated film "Tutrles Forever") "hardcore crazy", grim, gritty, serious TMNT series and focus on the Mirage Turtles. Go all "Ninja Assassin" on that series.
I think a rated R TMNT film could really work seeing how Logan and deadpool was such a success it would be fitting to go back to the classic books feel but a problem arises that Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles is own by Nickelodeon and will never take a move like that they want to appeal to children and sell toys it sucks but it kinda makes sense and a business standpoint.
1. Nickelodeon is a bunch of wimps. 2. The people of Nickelodeon in their mindset still sees TMNT as a franchise for kids & continues to both emulate & riding the coattails of the 1987 series, they wanna ignored the 1984 comic. 3. They're owned by ViacomCBS. They (along with Paramount Pictures) can work on an agreement to adapt a R rated TMNT film or a TV-MA series without Nickelodeon's involvement.
@@jakeystarsuper I'll be honest with you, as long as Nickelodeon holds the rights to the franchise, remains family-friendly, with the new "TMNT: Mutant Mayhem" coming out in August, it'll be a long time before we see a TMNT adaptation based on the original Mirage Studios comics.
People always give Michael Bay's reimagining of the Turtles to be an absolute sin against the source material. Another series of 'ruined childhoods,' if you will. And, well, no one's wrong about that. But people seem to forget it was the '87 cartoon that did it first. That was the real bastardized TMNT.
@@jakeystarsuper Oh of course, you're not wrong. I don't think anybody could be wrong for enjoying one iteration of the Turtles over another. I enjoyed 2003, and then the original comics, before I did 87. I don't have any issues with 87, personally, but I used to find it very annoying how people would talk smack about the 2014 Bay movies just for looking and being different. I just like to use the changes made in 87 to the changes made in 2014, is all. In my opinion, Bay's movies sucked! But not because the Turtles looked like weird third cousins of Shrek, or because the origin story was changed. I think they suck because of the writing, acting, and product placement! Haha
I was a huge TMNT fan when I was a kid, and I’m still a fan to this day. I will always have my heart set on the 1980’s and 90’s cartoon series. That’s when I became a fan after watching the cartoons and getting the action figure toys. I even loved the 2003 TMNT series. However, I gotta admit that the new Micheal Bay wannabe movies are a bit weak and the new cartoon series got all woke, I have to agree that it’s time to bring the true origins of the TMNT to life. Giving the Turtles a dark origin story that’s much like the comics might help bring the hero’s in a half shell some more mature dignity. Much like how we got from Batman Begins after Batman and Robin as an example. I read the comics when I was still in elementary school, and I was blown away from how different they were from being dark, violent, bloody, serious pages it had and that I loved it! The closest we got from the comics was the 1990 movie. Parents complained about the dark tone and violence like the typical SJW that they were back in the day, and made the sequel movies get all bubblegum down to a weak point in TMNT 3. I’ll admit I did enjoy the latest TMNT 2 movie thanks to finally seeing Bebop and Rocksteady being on the big screen, but I think it’s time to bring the turtles out in a new and darker direction that they were meant to be in the first place. After all, if it works for movies like Deadpool and Joker, than I believe it will kickass for the TMNT. Bring on the Turtle gore!
In the animated tmnt on Nickelodeon there was an episode where they travel to different universes and one were the original comics where they try to kill Mikey and Donnie
I wish we would get a movie of the turtles like these ones nowdays if you say you like tmnt they would say its for little kids thats not how they originaly where
I'll put it on the list, Michael. Thank you. As for t-shirts-- they will be coming as we grow. The mere fact you would even suggest that means a lot. Until then I promise to keep making great content for supporters like you =). Thank you my man!
I think I would make a 2D Animated movie inspired by the comics, with the turtles all wearing red masks, but still with the Letter belts. And it would be borderline R rated.
I read the original comics when I was like a Freshman in Highs School. Probably started around 1987. I hated how later they became a pizza eating cowabunga bunch of jerk offs. By 1992 it was over. I do however still look for and collect the original Volume 1 Mirage comics.
Personally I like the Turtles best when there is a balanced mix between the dark and the goofy. I enjoy seeing the them relaxed, having fun, and acting like teens, but I also enjoy serious battles with high stakes and dire consequences.

These are the Ninja Turtles I was originally turned on to!! Love the Ninja Turtles... we need a dark, bloody, killer version!! We need this yesterday!
I love the graphic novel when I was a kid. I love those darker stories! I’m 38 years old today, that was my ninja turtles!
Well, if you watch the 2003 TMNT cartoon, it was pretty close to the original comic books.
But yeah, maybe a direct-to-dvd dark TMNT movie will be great.
Yeah people actually died in it. One of the characters called rat king is an abomination that is self-loathing and wants to kill the turtles.
Close but no cigar it was still watered down and targeted to children. 1990 movie is the only one that comes close to being like the Mirage comics.
@@Kabutoes Same in 2012.
Fate gave splinter the opportunity to have his revenge when he found the turtles. Their sole purpose in life was to kill Oroku Saki.
There should be a TMNT movie that goes exactly like the first comic did
Great channel, I love these types of vids. Very informative and full of great trivia! Keep 'em coming. Would love to see more about comic book adaptations.
+tryan313 thanks tryan. I'll keep it in mind-- for more comic booky stuff
I guess Turtles Forever is the closest we'll ever get to an animated version of the Mirage comics. But man, that would be sweet if an animated version of the 1st issue was ever made.
Yep. Even the voice actors behind the Prime Turtles were awesome.
Had no idea Daredevil was so tied into the Ninja Turtles. Total mindfuck!
I smell a crossover happening
The 2012 series could be pretty dark. Hell Shredder straight up killed Splinter....TWICE
Killing someone doesn't make it dark. Even magical girls cartoons show them kill the enemies and they aren't dark. In the 2003 series, the Turtles actually kill a bunch of people like when they made the Crystal Moon exploded, killing an entire city of Y'Lyntians.
@@miyako1909 Yes it does make it dark lol 2012 was dark as hell.
Charles Commins Jr- I would use the word Avenge the death of Master Yoshi and his wife.
If I were merely paying back an eye for an eye I'd say perhaps vengeance and a plain kill. If the payback is personal, deeply felt and emotionally attached to the task I'd claim my kill as a ruthless murder with glee. Make them feel it.

Wow, so that's where the scene from the 2012 version came in. When Casey Jones did the exact same thing. I like how the 2012 version still keeps in touch with the old shows/movies.
Yeah but the only difference is Casey did it out of anger witch I don't blame him.
Ronin=samurai jack? :O great vid btw!
Thanks for teaching me something cool! I always prefer the darker origin of stories over the family friendly remakes / adaptions. Like fairy tales c:
No problem Brenda, glad you enjoyed =)
😄😁👍🙌
Me too except for fairy tales
Those early Frank Miller Daredevil and Ronin comics were amazing. I highly urge people to go read them if they haven't.
1990 May have adapted a little to the comic but it wasn't much
Someone should make a series to these turtles using blood gore darker themes and more realistic dark crimes.
I would love a gritty 80s aesthetic of a turtles cartoon where it's not afraid to get dark but balanced out with light hearted moments like a shonen anime. It could get bloody, gritty, dirty and the turtles are not afraid to throw down even resulting in killings their enemies
At first I didn't like ASMR, but then I watched your videos.
+Angry Bee Thanks! Could you please elaborate? =)
Court of Source If you really want to know, then sure. Your voice is incredibly soft and calming (no homo), and to me, the difference it has to normal ASMR is that it has a "purpose", being that instead of talking about random stuff (I can't really explain, just look at ASMR videos), your content is actually interesting.
+Angry Bee Checked out some ASMR vids. The compliment is well appreciated, because my voice was originally a part of this that I had real concern about. I'll make sure to keep the content interesting. Thank you buddy.
Court of Source Actually, thank you for putting out this great content. Your voice is probably the best part of your video, so it's fine.
Oh what scene did it showed someone getting stab and showing it on camera with out blacking out
I love the OG tmnt as killers
Wow, great video as usual. Very well done.
Thanks Doomed. Appreciate the support-- I'll keep em coming!
The "merciless" ninja turtles had a small crossover with the 90´s and the 2012 turtles.
2003 TMNT I believe stuck more to the original then the other adaptions of the turtles.
One Of The Best Channels In RUclips . Good Job!
That’s why I always loved the comics a bit more than the shows. I hope they make a movie or show based closer on the comics one day, I wanna see Leo actually use them fucking swords on someone
Holy crap I subscribed at 1500 and you're already at 11,000 your getting big man keep up the great work!!
Thanks Ronny. I'll keep it up!
I love the Turtles so much...
@@2013venjix im pretty sure nickelodeon is aware of the 1984 version
@@2013venjix but either than that I agree with you
@@jakeystarsuper I'll be honest with you, as long as Nickelodeon holds the rights to the franchise, remains family-friendly, with the new "TMNT: Mutant Mayhem" coming out in August, it'll be a long time before we see a TMNT adaptation based on the original Mirage Studios comics.
That's because 87 is considered a classic. Because a lotta people grew up with it
@@jakeystarsuper Oh of course, you're not wrong.
Haha
@@jakeystarsuper yeah no shit it's called being a nostalgia whore.
no no no the REAL bastardization was The Coming Out of Our Shells Tour...
Never forget..or the other musical specials
The cartoons and games helped solidify the cartoonist version into the collective mind. It won't ever be grittier again.
Agreed
Here we go with the word "woke" being misused again.
"woke" you mean autistic and black characters?😭
Personally, I'd like to see a movie adaptation of Fugitoid. That way, I can see the Triceratons on the big screen.
Not the original story but the closest we can get to a gritty tmnt adaptation now is The Last Ronin and the lost years comics
I actually like the original ideas for them better.
Unfortunately, in order to adapt them for animation, the people who made the adaptation toned down the grittiness.
@@parforet In other words, make it kid friendly.
@@parforet A real shame that something like Adult Swim didn't exist at the time.
Me too. Nick shouldnt have any business with them

-2003!Raphael
Me: Of course, you would!
In the animated tmnt on Nickelodeon there was an episode where they travel to different universes and one were the original comics where they try to kill Mikey and Donnie
How the hell can you leave out the 2003 series? That as close you gonna get to the comic version of the turtles.
ye but it deviates its only season 1 which is a pure adaptaion later they used more original storys
Honestly, I think the Mirage Turtles are the most Ninja-est Turtles I’ve ever seen.
I wish we would get a movie of the turtles like these ones nowdays if you say you like tmnt they would say its for little kids thats not how they originaly where
Grey8421 4 fuck peter laird for selling them to nickelbackeon as i call them
That’s not true they are not Heartless assassins I have the first comics they are Honorable managers that care about Honor and I don’t want
It's not murder, it's revenge! That's total different.
Wow this is sad we have never seen the real teenage mutant ninjas turtles
Not yet.
SpongeBob? I've heard it was originally meant for Adult Swim or something, but I'd like to know if there was any more than that.
It was actually gonna be on fox
Fyi,the Ronin comic would be the inspiration for Samurai Jack
I would like an r rated movie
What about an episode about Mystery Science Theater 3000? Also you guys should make some T shirts, I would totally buy a T shirt.
I'll put it on the list, Michael. Thank you. As for t-shirts-- they will be coming as we grow. The mere fact you would even suggest that means a lot. Until then I promise to keep making great content for supporters like you =). Thank you my man!
Nice video bro, once again!
Thank you my man!
why is he talking like he's trying to whisper?
I think I would make a 2D Animated movie inspired by the comics, with the turtles all wearing red masks, but still with the Letter belts. And it would be borderline R rated.
I'd love a live action adaption of the original comics
I love this channel! I can't wait to see what you have for us next. :)
Thanks Terran. Next few episodes are in the pipe. Hope you'll enjoy them.
Lol, the Mount Your Friends song at the beginning ever so quietly.
We have "Tmnt the last ronin" Now so that's cool
I read the original comics when I was like a Freshman in Highs School. Probably started around 1987. I hated how later they became a pizza eating cowabunga bunch of jerk offs. By 1992 it was over. I do however still look for and collect the original Volume 1 Mirage comics.
Personally I like the Turtles best when there is a balanced mix between the dark and the goofy. I enjoy seeing the them relaxed, having fun, and acting like teens, but I also enjoy serious battles with high stakes and dire consequences.
Courtasaurs is my favorite youtube channel rn
Holy shat the time changed
They should've kept them like this. Dope asf. I love seeing the turtles as cold blooded killers slaughtering people.
"Unforgiving Killers"?
more like Unforgiving clickbait.
But they where
They were killers but not murderers
@@EpicMinecraftFail what's the difference? Murder is the unlawful killing of another human being. Which is what they do.
@@yourmother5810 is killing criminals really unlawful?
@@EpicMinecraftFail yes it's unlawful. Justified but unlawful. It's vigilantism too. Look up NYC laws on citizens rights to kill and you'll easily see that this is against the law aka murder.

the theme at 0:29 is the anthem of the micronation of vikesland
well in the tmnt 2007 cartoon movie Leo did stated to karai that Shredder is Dead which means The turtles killed him instead of defeating him and In the black and white comic book Leo is the only turtle who killed the shredder which I'm impressed
