About this game:
Mortal Glory leads you into a brutal fantasy world where gladiator fights are common entertainment and death awaits behind every corner. You will be tasked with forming a new team for the annual gladiator tournament and bringing glory to your name. Train your gladiators, find a legendary sword, learn ancient spells, recruit a celebrity, cheat - do whatever it takes to win!

Hey, it's the creator of Mortal Glory here! Hope it's ok if I hijack my own comment here :) Did you know this was the first game I ever made and that I did it alone, in 9 months and without any previous experience? A lot of people were inspired by this, so I decided to start this channel in order to help others get started with gamedev and answer any questions you might be wondering! At the same time I will also be sharing some behind the scenes info on Mortal Glory: How different things were made, what problems I ran in, how much the game has sold etc. If any of this sounds interesting to you, come have a look!

@@AuroDev Hi, your game is very similar to the one I played as a kid 15 years ago or so on a J2ME phone, so I assumed it was you continuing the development. I wonder if you were inspired by it?
It was called Gladiator Manager (not a very creative name which made it hard to google, but the author is Seppo Suorsa). It also had a 4 max team building theme where you fight other teams in different legions, level them up, equip them, etc. Injuries were also implemented, you get overkilled or overkill someone and the gladiator skips next x fights. The difference I remember is that that one was more like an endless sandbox, gladiators aged and retired, and it took quite some time to be able to consistently stay in the top league.
I googled a bit, and it seems the guy has been developing the game on PC since 1991, wow. It's called Areena, there's even a physical board game, and Arena 7 is implemented as a web game.

This might be a controversial idea but if there's no good spot to put it then just turn it off? He's gone nearly a decade without it and I'm still not convinced it was a necessary addition to begin with.

Was thinking that too. Top middle, seems like he would have only really covered up the emperor. Though for most of the video I was thinking, "good idea, can't be called out on missing stuff if we can't see it either."
@@tyraster8603 You can't see all his weird faces he makes without it. Works for NL, Dan and MALF. Apollo should try it again. Makes for fun when they are playing against each other.

When he gave the +20 hp to the minotaur instead of Hathus who was a 4 hp....
Yeah, I know when he had that option I was like "oh great, now the guy who dies from just getting a status effect can actually do something."
to be fair, Hathus was literally useless. 4 STR, 1 WIS, no damage and the curse effect was questionable at best.
@@m.s.365 gained agility but became useless in literally every other way. if you can make her a debuff machine maybe it would be useful

This game clearly has it's roots in the "Areena" series of gladiator games (and Finnware games) of the late 1990's and early 2000's. Many of the awkward systems of this game exist because that's the way they were designed 20 years ago and the dev clearly did not want to change them. Some classic team names from those days are Auringon Soturit (Warriors of the Sun), Kaaosvoima (Chaos Power) and Pimeyden Ruhtinaat (The Fürsts of Darkness). Seeing this video come up really made me feel nostalgic.
Correct! I loved playing the Areena games growing up (5th one mostly) and they were a big inspiration for Mortal Glory :)

Only reads 2 of the 3 stats, where the third one literally tells you its magic damage.
i like how this game works, dunno how long you could play it, but getting familiar enough to beat it would be fun to watch.

Bought it straight away. 8 hours played and this game goes in. It's really fun, slay-the-spire-like team building for your arena

This immediately reminded me of the old Finnish freeware game called Areena - and how I almost always got my booty annihilated.. Gotta give Mortal glory a try.

Hey, dev of the game here! I loved playing the Areena games when I was growing up (mostly the 5th) so they were definitely a big source of inspiration for Mortal Glory :)

"The rules of the tournament forbid having 2 of the same race in a team." Well good to know that organizers of blood sports are progressive enough to care about diversity and representation.
But for real though, the emperor is racist against minotaurs. I mean those rounds of the final tournament attempt were all "only ranged users and no bull rushing."
@@fallouthirteen nah, he's just giving the other races an opportunity, since the minotaur was wrecking the enemies all the time before :P

Watching NL play a game, literally ANY game that requires an even mildly functional human brain is actually unbelievably tilting.
Seriously, seeing him just not kill the an enemy because he wanted to move a unit back was so frustrating.

Hmmh, this resembles the Finnish "Areena" gladiator game series a lot. I wonder if it's by the same guy and he finally decided to go international and make money.
The way he used Hathus really hurt my soul. At that point its wasting a turn, and he refused to use them to deal even 5 damage with that incredible 14 agility. Probably would've dodged melee blows too? Also, he could've taught it Corrosive Mist bare minimum for 5 damage ranged.

For a sec, because the Eggcam covered part of the title, I thought the game was called Morning Glory.
The style of this game reminds me of games like Hillsfar and Pool of Radiance, the advanced DnD games
If you play more please train your troops so they get stronger.

This seems really nice... EXCEPT they gotta have a "click on unit, movement range shows up on map, click square to move" thing that one would expect from a grid-based turn-based game. I don't think controlling units with an on-screen 8-directional numpad is a good permanent solution.
Seems like a mobile port? as those are the ones that tend to have the on screen movement options now

Hey NL! I wanna bring to your attention a rougelike called Atomicrops which is a farming rougelike and I think it would be right up your alley.
Bit rough around the edges, but looks like a good game. Like a pay-to-win mobile game with all the evil corporate stuff removed :)
