    These are great fights where is this kind of boxing today, Robinson a little past his prime but still deadly against Graziano who was a hell of a fighter classic stuff.

    Shut the hell up about Mayweather for a minute and respect Sugar Ray, as a fighter and a person. And for the things he did in the ring that were way beyond what we could imagine..

    Robinson's defeated competition separates him from everyone else. He defeated 11 different champions an astounding 23 times. In addition he won vs 48 opponents who defeated a champion at least once. That's 71 wins vs champions or championship caliber opponents. More wins than Ali, Marciano, Dempsey, Ray Leonard, Hagler or Louis each had for their ENTIRE careers.

      Sugar Ray Robinson never lost a welterweight bout, and he had about 100 of them. Robinosn was world welterweight champ, as well. Beat contenders like Kid Gavilan and Charlie Fusari.

    Ray was a complete fighter. He got hit because he was such an offensive fighter. But he won many fights using his jab, height, intelligence and reach. He was a very smart fighter. You have clearly not watched enough of his fights. He outboxed boxers and out punched punchers. He could beat you at your own game. That is how good he was. He was in his prime at Welterweight and unfortunately there is limited footage of his welterweight fights.

    Great performance by the greatest p4p boxer of all time against one of the toughest and best fighters of his day. Graziano gave a spirited effort as always and he did land a couple of good shots got Robinson's respect (although he never seemed really hurt in the fight). But in the end he was simply outclassed by the best man who ever laced up a pair of gloves. No shame in that! Great finish by Robinson; that knockout was simply amazing with its power speed and precision.

    • @trvth1s
      @trvth1s 10 лет назад +5

      Ali is overrated.
      Ali had unnecessary footwork, he over did it and burnt extra energy on it.
      Ali also had atrocious defense, simply atrocious [thus he has Parkinson now].
      Sugar Ray was considered a ring master in his day and by ring master i mean the most technical fighter in his division. Like Mayweather today at 147lbs, Guillermo Rigo at featherweight, or like Leonard at 147lbs in the 80's.
      What set Robinson apart from the other ''ring masters'' is that when a swarmer or brawler tried to roughen him up he had power to finish them as shown here. Robinson didn't always need to punch twice, move & clinch, He could bang.
      Ali could not bang.
      Robinson would have NEVER had 200 pro fights without a ko loss if he had Ali's ATROCIOUS defense.

    • @saintcruzin
      @saintcruzin 10 лет назад +2

      Ali's defense was his speed on the outside. Unfortunately we were robbed of his prime, those 3 1/2 years would have been his best. When he came back he was much slower. I've said my entire life that Ray Robinson was the best ever. I saw him live KO Fulmer with one left hook when he was well past his prime.

    Mr. Hefner I agree 100 percent the sport is sadly not what it used to be, Ray fought some very good fighters and in the case of Jake a warrior, I was making the point that Aaron Pryor and Alexis Arguello in their two lengendary fights took the sport to great excitement and they both get credit to me, because they had the balls to fight twice, and I love them both for it ,fight fans still talk about those fights, sad that Floyd and Pac did not get it on,so sad.

  • @crawlFace
    @crawlFace 13 лет назад

    I can easily agree that Sugar Ray Robinson was pound for pound the best. Ray gives you many styles, very versatile, huge punch power, great natural flow for counter-game as well, great speed, smart.
    That's what a legend is about, meaning no matter what happens with today's boxers the most they can do is share the ultimate stage with Ray. To me that's respect, to say so and so is one of the greats like Sugar Ray.

    Actually it's not like basketball or football at all. The fighters in those days were better than today, for a lot of reasons, but mainly because they fought more. There were just so many boxers. They got to see fight against so many different styles they would know exactly what to do against today's fighters. Robinson had winning streaks of 40 and then 91 in his career.

    If Robinson was fighting today he would be even more unbeatable. Remember when he was fighting he rarely watch films of his opponents like they do today to watch for any weakness etc, etc. If he were alive to today & in his prime he would have that luxery.
    I believe he only ever watched an opponent on film twice in all his career. One of them was against Randy Turpin, I will have to find out the other person for you. Thats how good he was.

  • @fistofate
    @fistofate 13 лет назад

    Robinson probably had the greatest career of any fighter, but I wouldn't guarantee he'd have beaten any other middleweight champions. There's a million different ways to box and Robinson just had one of them. His style was beautiful, but he was not the straightest puncher in history. He telegraphed a lot of his punches and got by on his tremendous hand speed. Another factor is that sometimes whole generations of fighters are better than others... it's impossible to say who would have beaten who

    Great knockout by the TRUE greatest of all times. According to Jake Lamotta's book. He and Graziano was in the same boys home together where Lamotta beat down 3 of the guards at the same time. The priest of the establishment a seasoned fighter himself took Jake under his wing and taught him how to box and the rest is history. Ironic how Rocky took this fight considering Jake offered him a shot at his title when he was champ but Graziano declined saying he dont wanna be champ.

    Let's put Robinson's greatest in perspective, he fought at a time when organized crime called lots of shots in regards to who fought whom(and who would lose in many instances). He also fought when purses were meager and fighting 15-20 times a year(yes, a YEAR) meant affording the lifestyle one desired. Lastly, how could a fighter of today(who fights maybe twice if not once a year) be able to compete with such a fighting machine such as Robinson? He's rip through the softies of today.....

    @Tusc9969 12 лет назад

    Keep in mind that JMM and Floyd are two different counter-punchers. JMM counterpunches with "combinations" and agression while Floyd counters with pot shots. He does not punch WITH his opponents like JMM. Floyd only averages around 40-47 punches a round and that possibly won't be enough to stop a guy like Pac who throws twice that number. Again, I admit that it doesn't necessarily mean Floyd won’t beat Pac but it’s not a foregone conclusion from this fight. It’s a different set.

    Rocky wasnt a defensive fighter. Everybody knows that. This is why SRR disposed of him in 3. All the great middleweights would have beaten Rocky. He was still a dangerous foe though and would be for any fighter. That being said, why dont you show a little more respect to a fellow fighter,an ex-champion who gave his all, and stop calling him names like " a joke". Shame on you,kid. This was a good man, and a good and tough fighter. This man was and always will be a CHAMPION. R.I.P.

Delahota,Mayweather,and Jones all had a hand in KILLING boxing in the 90's. That's where it really ended. Greed,no honor,and many other things. Boxing sucks now because the fighters suck. Now people go to a boxing match and pray that a fight breaks out. In the old-school people went to a boxing match and prayed that their heroes wouldnt die.

Jab, uppercut, hook. Hook. Uppercut,uppercut.I'm not saying that Floyd isn't capable of doing what Marquez did.All I'm saying is Marquez and Floyd are naturally different fighters.

    (cont.) Tyson did have the skill and when he used it against his opponents it was beautiful watching that old-school stuff, but since he abandoned it so early on and we only saw him REALLY use it on average opponents i'd could list you literally hundreds of fighters who were better at in-fighting than Tyson. People get caught up in what Tyson could've been and should've been instead of what he ultimately WAS. Again i dont care how much "Skill" you have if you dont use it.

    You can watch Zale knocking him down with relative ease even though Graziano had given him hell in their two previous bouts. Then again he was caught with punches (in both the Zale and the Robinson fight) that few could have gotten up from.
    These were the only times he was ever stopped

    People forget how tough Marcel Cerdan was.

    Marciano had a 65-66 inch reach and Graziano had a 68 inch reach. Only way they could land punches.

    True, except the exact opposite of what you said. All sports, especially boxing, have a developmental and scientific aspect. Athletes are far healthier, faster, stronger and more skilled than they were even 10 years ago. Jordan could tell a big difference in the game just in the short time he retired and returned. I bet the Sugar in this clip might not even make the pro circuit today. Of course he would be amazing to watch had he been born and trained in this era.

    If you think Robinson was quick here - when fighting Rocky Graziano, at the age of 31 years old. Just think how fast he was at the age of 26 years old . He must have been something else and more deadly as he didn't have that death in the ring on his mind....

    was just thinking these guys look small for middleweights, then realised that's because they're actually fighting at the contracted weight and haven't put on 20 pounds since the weigh-in like fighters do today.

    I'm surprised Rocky lasted as long as he did here cause he was taking a lot of vicious shots

    If he talked as much as Ali did, everybody would know him as the greatest.
