dude I just started watching I'm enough minutes in to see that you definitely know what you're talking about. Thanks for making this video. wanna try this tomorrow
Not many people will share how to catch target fish like salmon but coming from some one who doesn't even know where to start, thank you. Thank you so much, I have some thing to try now.
Informative Fisherman is the right name for this channel and guy! Great video!! I live in the bay area and always visit sacramento and always wish I could get out there in the river and fish but still haven't bought a boat "yet".....
The only person I am competing against is myself, I love what I do and appreciate the heck out of great comments like that! I enjoy all fishing shows and there is more than enough water for everyone.
Dude. Thankyou! This video really helped me, I’m new to river salmon, it ain’t like the ocean...I’ll be out in a few more days once I get a new battery for the canoe, can’t wait! I’ll be out around sac city give or take, you ever fish here I’d love to tag along in my ‘lectric canoe, I won’t get in your way
Looks like good times. Where are you guys fishing? I fish around the Portland area and coast etc. Never jigged like that except for bottom fish in the ocean.
California only clips 25% of adipose fins. Meaning there is a good chance a fish with an adipose is actually still a hatchery fish. We should be clipping 100% like Oregon and Washington do.
What kind of tackle (lines, lures, bait)should you use for king salmon on the bank in the sacramento river? I was thinking about plunking not sure need help!
Being able to lead the fish with a tighter drag and to build a better load into the stretch of your line is crucial. The reason you will see me strip line is strictly to maintain the rods action when it starts to get into a negative position that can damage the rod. When I'm jigging and hooking them straight from above I prefer to stay as close to the fish as possible that's also why I run them down on the trolling motor. If you jig shifts around to much your odds of landing them decreases.
They are fishing for the reaction strikes because typically salmon do stop feeding when they hit fresh water so the strike is out of anger or curiosity more than for food
2012 was the year of the Jacks. I fish lots in the Gulf of the Farallons . As you probably know we use barbless hooks when trolling or jigging for salmon. Do any of the guides in the river use barbless hooks? I think it would be a good thing to practice. Thanks for posting the video. Ed
awesome. we jig for lake trout just like this here in NY. we have landlocked king salmon in lake ontario and the other great lakes. youve got me wondering what bouncing jigs near the rivers and tributaries would do...
Hey great video! Just one thin to add on it you should look at the regulations on non buoyant lures. it says 1 ounce and over-single hook- non buoyant -Under 1 ounce treble hook is allowed- should have this info in your video. Good luck out there.
Great video. One minor correction though. Just because the salmon does not have a clipped fin does not mean it is a wild fish. Most likely, in the Sacramento River, it is a hatchery fish. It only means that the salmon does not have a wire tag in it's head. They generally tag about 25% of the fish before they release them.
Looking for a new jigging rod for salmon just wondering what rod your using? Or would recommended... I'll be fishing that same area off my kayak for salmon when the run starts.
Big fish are the results to big baits more often than not. try using a smaller live fish you catch there as bait or using a much larger lure than normal. Just remember there are always more small than large patience will pay off.
I have noticed you have not commented on the treble hook on any lure/jig over 1 ounce. I too thought any jig (example P Line minnow) over 1 once had to use only a single hook ( Gamakatsu side wash hooks are great examples). Just don't want you to get caught using a treble and get a ticket. Enjoy your fishing videos by the way. Hope to see ya out on the water someday.
Treble hooks are legal to use there. This section does make it sound like it is illegal, however he is fishing near Freeport. Since Freeport is south of Highway 50, it is considered the delta. Section B here states that this restriction does not apply to where he is fishing. Had he been fishing north of the Highway 50 bridge then yes it would not be legal. 2.10. HOOK AND WEIGHT RESTRICTIONS. (a) Definition of Gap: For the purposes of this section, “gap” means the distance measured from the point of a hook to the shank. (b) Maximum Gaps and Gear Rigging for Rivers and Streams unless otherwise provided (does not apply to lakes and reservoirs, the Sacramento-San Joaquin Delta (see Section 1.71 for definition of the Delta), and the Colorado River). 1. No person shall use any single hook with a gap greater than 1 inch or any multiple hook with a gap greater than 3/4 inch. 2. It is unlawful to use any hook which is directly or indirectly attached closer than 18 inches to any weight exceeding 1/2 ounce. 3. It is unlawful to use any multiple hook or more than one single hook on non-buoyant lures exceeding one ounce. 1.71. SACRAMENTO-SAN JOAQUIN RIVER DELTA. The Sacramento-San Joaquin River Delta includes all rivers, sloughs, canals, cuts, forebays, and flooded islands within the area south of Interstate 80 to its junction with Highway 50, and south of Highway 50 via the Pioneer Bridge to its junction with Highway 99, west of Highway 99, north of Interstate 580, 205, and Highway 120, and east of Interstate 680.
Wow I learned so much!!! Thanks a lot man I have never caught salmon on the Sacramento. I have to wait until they go way up North! Now I have a better idea of how to catch em! Still a little confused a lil about catching them with the Mepps and sinker technique if you have a video on that one let me know!
I enjoyed your video on jigging for king salmon, I have been jigging in the Pacific NW, since the early 80’s, my only comment about the video, was your handling of foul hooked fish in 70 degree water, there would be a high degree of mortality on fish that were played for a long time, better to net fish as quickly as possible, revive and release, in Oregon it’s against the law to bring a field hooked salmon fish into the boat
We have better luck with white jigging spoons, but we catch a lot of Lakers too cause we fish the big bays off lake Michigan before they get into the rivers. Once they get into the river they pretty much quit eating.
Adipose fin presence does NOT necessarily make it a "wild" salmon... Most CA hatcheries don't clip adipose fins from salmon as they do for hatchery steelhead. Many hatcheries do clip the adipose from only those salmon whose heads are fitted with coded wire tags so they know when to collect heads during creel and/or carcass surveys/counts (to get data). FWIW... I'm not correcting you to be an asshole, just to clarify. Your videos are well done and surely appreciated by many. I wouldn't bother to correct you if I didn't deem you worthy ;) FISH ON BRO >
Christopher You hit that one right on the head I caught a 30 pound king in lake Michigan , I think you were giving a compliment at 20 LB tops LMFAO......an fish boy out of water I'm not watchin this strock seen him before by by

Great video. Love chasing these guys on the big water- definitely will try your techniques when they start entering the rivers. Appreciate the info.
Is there any way to get this show on comcast.
Recommend to me a rod and reel set up for sac river jigging..what are you using in this video?
Yes F G look up plunking very few do it but it's highly effective.
Is it true that in The sacramento river if you use a lure that is 1 oz you cant have qa trebble hook on it?
where on the sac are you fishing in this?
Looks like good times. Where are you guys fishing? I fish around the Portland area and coast etc. Never jigged like that except for bottom fish in the ocean.
Great video and tips! Thanks for sharing. I think those are some great tips that will help me increase my catch! Well done!
Nick needs to come to the PNW and try jigging them lol. same game, different fisheries!
California only clips 25% of adipose fins. Meaning there is a good chance a fish with an adipose is actually still a hatchery fish. We should be clipping 100% like Oregon and Washington do.
the tribes in washington often do no fin clip so the sportsman have to release hatchery fish too. sucks!!
Do you do guided trips?
What kind of tackle (lines, lures, bait)should you use for king salmon on the bank in the sacramento river? I was thinking about plunking not sure need help!

If i may ask, why not run the drag looser instead of manually feeding the fish line?
This is the freeport area, those rules are for further up.
Hey was this Salt water or fresh water. Because someone told me that salmon don't eat once they hit freshwater. I want to know if that's true or not..
They are fishing for the reaction strikes because typically salmon do stop feeding when they hit fresh water so the strike is out of anger or curiosity more than for food

what reels and rods are you guys using
Where do you usually launch the boat? Thanks
Do you do guided fishing trips???
awesome. we jig for lake trout just like this here in NY. we have landlocked king salmon in lake ontario and the other great lakes. youve got me wondering what bouncing jigs near the rivers and tributaries would do...
Is this down by Verona?
what kind of reel would you prefer for salmon and rod?
Is that Verona marina?

best video for Salmon fishing in the Sac river THANXS!!!
When you tail grab a salmon or Salmon it really helps to use a cloth glove. good Video!
Lol boomer
could i use a 6'6" rod for jigging for salmon
I caught a rusty fish chain stringer the other day in Puget Sound @ Lincoln Park. Score!
Can this apply to kokanee as well?
Great video. One minor correction though. Just because the salmon does not have a clipped fin does not mean it is a wild fish. Most likely, in the Sacramento River, it is a hatchery fish. Can you jig using the laser minnow off from the bank or only a boat? I am visiting Sac River in Red Bluff soon.
David Godinez Cast spinners from the bank I don't think jigging would work.
Wow treble hooks ? up here in British Columbia as well as Washington state only single Bar bless hooks are allowed.
Great video and tips. What general area of the Sacramento were you fishing?
Looking for a new jigging rod for salmon just wondering what rod your using? Or would recommended... I'll be fishing that same area off my kayak for salmon when the run starts.
I'm using my iRod swimbait rods now, they are beast!
was that a st croix mojo rod ? love those
have to let lure hit the bottom each time ?
trebles are legal on non floating lures like kwikfish and bombers and on non sinking lures that are under 2oz
where is this?
Big fish are the results to big baits more often than not. try using a smaller live fish you catch there as bait or using a much larger lure than normal. Just remember there are always more small than large patience will pay off.
correct me if I am worng, but Cal DFG says single barbless hook? No trebles
GTFO
If you only had 1 Salmon Jigging rod for the Sac?
Cool video, but why the treble hook? Thought it's a single hook for anything over one once.
Thank you, I appreciate the feed back!
Wat brand was ur rod
Nice video. I wonder if this would work well in the ocean. By the way not all hatchery fish have their adipose fin clipped.
You never forget your first king salmon!
I was not aware, thanks Steve!
great video, nice fish. We use a fish glove for when you want to tail the fish.
Thanks for the info brother, see you out on the sac!
This is my very first subscribe!
Smart fisherman! Enjoyed your video! You sell and steelhead rod's? 9 ft
Your awesome thanks for the tips can you maybe do some video for us shore fisherman on how to catch salmon from shore 👍
how do you know the oxygen level, depth?
Are you guys in Alaska
sac river, freeport
Looks like you had a great day jiggin, But the treble hook on a 2oz jig is a NoNo
what is the Jig ? Buzz Bomb ?
Freeport /Garcia bend over 1 oz. treble hook is ok look at regulations.....
so if u get the 1oz laser minnow spoon ur good but if u get the 2oz u gotta throw on a treble hook
Any advice for bank fishing
Chris Beatty yes, get a boat! ;)
I got a canoe, so I can get ON the water now..
Thanks Danny!
Thx Steve

Why do you guys strip off line when all you have to do is set the drag a bit looser and let the fish run?

i like it strike......

Why'd you throw that bag back in the water?
GOOD STUFF.
awesome info thanks
I watch this every year 🤣
That guy needs to learn how to net!

Can you make a kwikfish video?
10:07 that's not a 25 - 30 pound fish haha. 20 tops.
It was 27 lbs and I'm 6'6". Maybe you should refrain from commenting if you don't have anything nice or constructive to say.
***** I don't understand why people watch instructional videos just to post bad comments
InformativeFisherman That wasn't a bad comment.
Christopher You hit that one right on the head I caught a 30 pound king in lake Michigan , I think you were giving a compliment at 20 LB tops LMFAO......an fish boy out of water I'm not watchin this strock seen him before by by
14.58 : wouldn’t listen to any IF videos on netting fish 😂
