Thanks Nick! Good info and explanations in every video I watch. I also like the fact you from my hometown and know the Delta and other places you frequently fish. Appreciate your knowledge.
Doug- YOU RULE! I live in Wyoming now and use the the same brands and similar types of tactics for big trout and walleye! Great show, I grew up outside of Stockton in the late 60’s and my uncle used to take me out in the delta to catch fish as big as me. Fiberglass rods and catch em with the reel!😊
I release all stripers over 10lbs too. What other people choose to do is up to them. If you notice the 2nd 12+ I landed was not in the final shot. I agree on catching and releasing the larger breeders, I keep the males around 6 & 7lbs much better eating anyhow :)
I’m docking out of Sherman island. Where should I go. Down river or up river? Could you send me coordinates of good spots? I can’t find the fish anywhere.
Does anybody use bull heads anymore when I grow up we use bullheads we use the mud sucker the Gobi too.But we go buy half a pound of those shrimp and a small pole and go catch both head and throw them out there and let them sit big stripers come along suck them up I miss them days
This is a great video! Thanks for your time putting this together. I am going striper fishing for the first time in my life tomorrow and this video saved me some struggle. Ive been a lifelong fly guy and am stoked for tomorrow. Thanks!
Great vid however stripers do not have teeth but they do have very sharp gill plates,it's always important to keep a stripers head towards you don't allow them to turn away that's when most cutoffs happen due to the line getting sliced off on those gill plates
Awesome video, I’ve been fishing the delta for years but have not been able to hook in large stripers on a regular basis. I look forward to trying your tips!
I love this Video after watching this vid I went out to the delta bank fishing with chicken liver, anchovy and 2 friends had a great day catching small ones and then a bg one hit my friends pole and started taking line and there was a 27 1/2 on the end of it we ran out of chicken liver but still had some of the juice left so we cut the anchovy and dipped it in the juice would have never thought about chicken liver I knew it produced catfish but never would I have guessed that striper would hit on it. So all in all best stripper tip ever !
At 12:45 you mention releasing the smaller fish so they can spawn. A big mature female will lay thousands more eggs than a smaller fish will. Those big fish are the future.
Getting back into some serious striper fishing. My baitcasting rig will do fine when it comes to live bait. But I have lots of questions for the spinning rig. What size of spinning reel do you use for the 7 ft spinning rod? Also do you use the same size reel on all of your spinning rods for both boat and bank fishing? What power do you recommend for the spinning rod? Do you ever use the baitcaster for bank fishing when it comes to live bait?
Just was on the delta by Brannan island it was to windy for my bass boat to go in main channel caught few 16 inch and one 17 inch stripers all bait shops said only thing biting was the small ones what are the best striper seasons?
Drifting the same rigs works great, just make sure to use at least a 2 ounce drift weight to stay down. Plus jigging can be deadly as well in the main channel...
Awesome video! Totally agree liver is deadly, I knock them out big time with liver! I fish the California Aqueduct here in the central valley and the elastic string is a must!
Hey nick any places to fish from shore? I went to vista but I was told by PD that fishing isn't allowed on the shore in vista I was on highway 160 close to three mile slough bridge. any locations that you know of would really help. (the PD showed me signs went on for a couple of miles before I just took off)
Your fishing the power lines area. I fish with sardines and filet it and put the guts in the center and sticky thread tie the guts inside the filet. Then dowse it with sardine bait sauce. I use ghost shrimp too
MY son and I watch this video atleast once a week , can wait for winter striper fishing, where abouts in Rio Vista did u catch those pigs? Also u did a vid on top water striper fishing in Rio Vista and said to fish of a flooded island run off but I cant seem and on the maps
Hello well i just wanted to start out and say i have a shakespear size 50 reel spooled up with 280-295 yards of 20lb powerpro braid and a penn battle 600 spooled up with 300yds of 50lb hi vis yellow on a 10ft ande tournament series surf rod. could u recommend me some things to try or use for some east coast striper fishing because im just starting out and have no idea what im doing lol
walmart sells the "sticky line" its called magic thread. im sure any other tackle store sells it as well. i use regular thread for liver and it works great
great video guys. i fish at HMB jetty.. crabs usually destroy my bait if its on a slider.. can i use a hi-lo instead or is the sliding rig crucial for success? thanks in advance!
The fish start moving up beginning of March and this will last through May. it is a good time to catch large quantities of average to larger size fish pretty easily. Good fishing will last through the summer months of June and July you just have to know where to find the local schools of fish. It will slack off a little in August and pick up late September. The best time to catch trophy fish is late October through November. The stripers are incredibly aggressive at this time of the year. All of my largest stripers came in November. Hope this helps
I have to say your tactics/opinions are out doing delta legend Barry canavaro that's no small feat thanks for the great tips but I think I'm going to be on a baitcaster 24/7 I hate the feel of spinning rods plus when you hook into that sturgeon you get to have fun a little longer before he takes off and you never see your hook again
I'm new to bait fishing in the Delta for stripers and your setup looked like it was working. What pole, reel, and line were you using? Great video by the way!
Hello Nick, My husband and I was just watching this wideo. We have family in town that had never been to California and wanted to fish. We usually fish for trout in the mountains but my brother in law is looking to hook big ones. My question is, is this place still hitting? Being that this video was from 2012. Please help if u know of another place.
DmN good Content!! 🔥🙌🏿
Thank you for showing! What bait you caught your stripers on? Shad, liver or mudsucker?
Thanks Nick! Good info and explanations in every video I watch. I also like the fact you from my hometown and know the Delta and other places you frequently fish.

Raise in Bay Area bring back old times with our Dad. In Washington now awesome fish
Do you think there’s a chance I could get a big striper in the delta right now? Since the run is technically over
There are some large resident ones but it’s rare
@@InformativeFisherman I’m hoping there’s a good amount of keeper residents what area do you suggest I try
We used to do ours with the sewing thread heavy duty sewing thread anchovies same way and then swing them out there
I release all stripers over 10lbs too. What other people choose to do is up to them. If you notice the 2nd 12+ I landed was not in the final shot. I agree on catching and releasing the larger breeders, I keep the males around 6 & 7lbs much better eating anyhow :)

Great video nick. I think i'm going to switch to circle hooks. This guys the real deal. Met him on the banks in the rain and mud yesterday.
Do you use live blue bills for bait?
I’m 57 years old never use chicken liver to go after stripers I guess there’s always a first time chicken liver was used for a big cats
Nick, how did I miss this classic video! Great advice!
Best info ever for fishing Delta stripers. Thank you.
Thank you Paul, I appreciate that!
Does anybody use bull heads anymore when I grow up we use bullheads we use the mud sucker the Gobi too.But we go buy half a pound of those shrimp and a small pole and go catch both head and throw them out there and let them sit big stripers come along suck them up I miss them days

Awesome video! Me being from Antioch that's all we used growing up was chicken liver & Chad for bait .
Yeah that's what I do, I like it about 6" up from the weight if cast close. Then 12" up if casting far do to line angle.
Hey man nice video. I fish there too
Just was on the delta by Brannan island it was to windy for my bass boat to go in main channel caught few 16 inch and one 17 inch stripers all bait shops said only thing biting was the small ones what are the best striper seasons?
can you bank fish for striper if so what baits/live baits are the best to use to catch them
Awesome!!! Great info!!!!

Awesome video! Totally agree liver is deadly, I knock them out big time with liver! I fish the California Aqueduct here in the central valley and the elastic string is a must!
Thanks brother, how has the trout fishing been lately?
A little late to comments but IF, uou sure you want to wrap Magic Thread around YOUR liver?? haha
This video is super helpful! I plan on hitting the Delta in my Yak soon for the first time.

Any tips on kayak striper fishing on the Delta?
Have you ever tried live bullhead? If so, did you have any luck?
MY son and I watch this video atleast once a week , can wait for winter striper fishing, where abouts in Rio Vista did u catch those pigs? Also u did a vid on top water striper fishing in Rio Vista and said to fish of a flooded island run off but I cant seem and on the maps
where do you get your shad? the baitshop i go to never seems to have them in stock anymore.
Awsome dude great information am going fishing for striper on thanks giving hopefully we will catch some like this.
Im excited to try the brain rig,
Thanks man
is the rio vista water salt or fresh water? wondering because we don't want to take the boat out there if its salt water. thanks and nice catches
freshwater
It gets to be a bit brackish if it doesn't rain for a while.
its brackish but mainly fresh
Mostly fresh, but very brackish right now with the lack of rain.
***** WHAT DOES BRACKISH MEAN?
Must have watched this several times!!
Productive day! Are you fishing light 21?
Hello well i just wanted to start out and say i have a shakespear size 50 reel spooled up with 280-295 yards of 20lb powerpro braid and a penn battle 600 spooled up with 300yds of 50lb hi vis yellow on a 10ft ande tournament series surf rod. could u recommend me some things to try or use for some east coast striper fishing because im just starting out and have no idea what im doing lol
what was the reel that was being used on the i think 7 foot shakespeare ugly stick rod? and what line were you using?
Those were small come to Tennessee and that will teach you what a real drag screaming striper feels like
The California record striper is larger than the Tennessee record.
I love seeing the Big Water Ugly Stik
Are circle hooks the same as octopus hooks? I don't see any hooks at stores labeled circle
one person way over the limit
Yeah you can spoon for them, I like P-Line lazer minnows. It's very similar to salmon jigging check my episode out on that and it should help you out.
walmart sells the "sticky line" its called magic thread. im sure any other tackle store sells it as well. i use regular thread for liver and it works great
great video guys. i fish at HMB jetty.. crabs usually destroy my bait if its on a slider.. can i use a hi-lo instead or is the sliding rig crucial for success? thanks in advance!
Good fishermen
Where do u guys launch?
You were so young! LOL
Lol
I'm hearing a lot of people using spoons? What do you recomend for that?
Those are small stripe bass.out here in conneticut at the thames river they have to be 28 inch one fish per day.
So when fishing it's good to have the tip of the hook exposed?
With circle hooks yes
impressive
Where do you find the sticky line?
Huge fan man love all the vids
Hope to meet you one of these days and fish with you on the delta
When is the best time of the year to fish for these guys???
All year brother. On the 3rd we got on 3 30 pounders
The fish start moving up beginning of March and this will last through May. it is a good time to catch large quantities of average to larger size fish pretty easily. I have yet to try it I usually plug the surf
Do you guys take people out fishing with you ?
I have to say your tactics/opinions are out doing delta legend Barry canavaro that's no small feat thanks for the great tips but I think I'm going to be on a baitcaster 24/7 I hate the feel of spinning rods plus when you hook into that sturgeon you get to have fun a little longer before he takes off and you never see your hook again
About what depth are you hooking them at?
where to get sticky line and sliders? cant find on the net
How big is the avg fish down there?
10 pounds
i wish i had a boat. i only get to go on the aniotch pier which suck becuase i catch a lot of small stripers, only had one keeper so far i been there.
Fish the banks around Rio Vista, it tends to produce better.
visualkeirockstar A lot of people wish they have a boat,,set your goals and you will have one, I did.
Whats that rod you were using when he passed the left rod to you
For the liver or shad do you let it sit on the bottom? Cast and reel? Or with a bopper and sit? Responds are highly appreciated :)
Yeah make sure it stays on the bottom. Use whatever weight will help it stay down
use a leader and a slip weight.
Can you use chicken livers as striper bait for surf fishing?
So is it better to use the circle hook than the "cow" hook???
Thanks for the info. Not so sure that's a true fast action rod, it's bending threw the handle.
where do you get the nets from
Braden Fuller Amazon has them. I liked the size and how they worked too. In looking for them I found they are called Ego nets. Hope this helps.
I'm new to bait fishing in the Delta for stripers and your setup looked like it was working. What pole, reel, and line were you using? Great video by the way!
do you think they will bite on squid?
Hello Nick, My husband and I was just watching this wideo. We have family in town that had never been to California and wanted to fish. Please help if u know of another place.
+Mol H (Just4u) Yes
I think ill try some circle hooks. and not yank the line when setting the hook.
Love those stripers!
How heavy of a weight? Looks like 3 ounce?
Love your videos and your details in teaching us! You’re awesome man thank you!
what size reel and rod?
what kind of bait r u using on 12:58?
what is with all the whale fishing rod? Good infor.
I wonder if liver would work on N.Y. stripes?
good times!
