I like how you made such a large contrast between the character and her shadow on the grass. It really made it look like she’s in bright lighting. Nice piece!
Ahhh! I'm so excited to see this painting, Al! Thank you so much for the kind words and for spending some time with these paints! It was so fun to see everything come together. I love the style of the grass and the soft pink of her sweatshirt. And I'm totally honored to be part of a wonderous first sketchbook page! 🥰Try not to put too much pressure on yourself for this sketchbook, and don't worry about pieces like this being "indulgent." Your sketchbook is absolutely allowed to have work in it that makes your heart happy. That joy translates into your paintings, and we love to see it. I'm excited to see what you do! Also, my apologies for any confusion since I know this palette fill a niche space! These colors are still traditional, professional watercolors rather than a separate medium. The pigments used just happen to be more opaque than most people gravitate when first starting off with watercolors. They're still totally interchangeable with any other watercolors, but different pigments thrive when used in different ways. Okok, the pigment nerd will hush up now, but I'm more than happy to geek out about paints if you ever have any questions! Thank you again! Also also, I didn't mention this in our emails, but I was so excited to see TLoU artwork for this video! I'm a huge fan of Critical Role, and Ashley Johnson voices Ellie as well, so it was really special seeing my paints used for one of her characters!
it's so cool seeing two of my favorite artists on youtube work together on something like this! you two are so admirable, it makes me want to buy these paints even more
I am one of those Artist that believe to many Sketchbooks are to perfect these days! If you do not take a chance or make some really bad pieces, your not using your sketchbook like it should be used, make a mistake and take chances! I think this piece is simply lovely! I guess your on your way to getting a book full of pretty pieces! Good Luck!
no way I literally painted this exact scene in my sketchbook like two days ago! this video was such a pleasant surprise lmao anyways I love your work sm and I always watch your videos while drawing
i read something yesterday about professional work being how well you could do at work but personal work being how much potential and passion you have and i thought it could help you feel less pressured about only doing your professional stuff around here. both are really important for potential clients and for yourself to try new things! hope it helps, love your art! 💖
Wow that grass looks amazing! I love the texture and life you captured with it. I love seeing artists drawing indulgent oc and other stuff, so I'm looking forward to the pieces you'll be making. I think trying to make a sketchbook beautiful does actually help your overall art (as long as it's not making you miserable), because as you said - the beauty filter can improve other art. Also genuiely gasped in shock at that title, lol.
You got so much apparent variety from a small color assortment, and that paper was gorgeous! These videos are always a treat, in no small part due to the amazing quality of art we see every time on this channel.
I’m literally using Denise’s palette right now and the mixes I’m able to come up with are so amazing. Also thank you for showing me yet ANOTHER sketchbook I need to try. But I was able to bind my own sketchbook using Arches paper so as of right now that’s my favorite 😂
I really resonated with your journey with loving your sketchbook! I've seen your video talking about how you talked about it and I've also been going through something similar, trying to get back into using a sketchbook after taking a break from being burnt out beautify-ing my last one. One way I've been getting into sketchbooking again is just having two smaller sketchbooks that I've been flipping between, a pretty watercolor-like sketchbook and a sketchy, self indulgent, doodly sketchbook. Whatever I feel that day is what I jump into essentially. I know that might be something you're not interested in but it's just some food for thought. ❤ Happy arting, can't wait to see how you fill the sketchbook next.
Love the painting and the paints look super fun to try out! Also I need to find a new computer to play the sims 4 on since my last one straight up died. I’m missing out on all the cool things lately 😅
It’s giving Leyendecker but if he painted an iconic cover of the life-changing middle grade novel of the decade 😩😩😩 I was curious if you have any videos in real-time of not just the piece you’re doing but also how you handle your brushes/palette/water/etc? I LOVE wet mediums but I always end up over wetting the brush or something that messes up the piece lol
Hii this is sooo cute !! Since this is gonna be a fan art kinda book , can you please do a red dead redemption piece? There's so much beautiful scenery and you could choose to do the main character if that's something that interests you.

The paints look kind of in between watercolour and gouache, the painting looks really good and I feel like set will work well with your art style ❤
