100 years into the future: Look how the artist did this self portrait to symbolize how heavy everyday life was for them and how they wanted it to end. Lilstarnerd today: Yeah, I just took a picture in front of a mirror and painted it 😅
We're always interested in the different ways artists approach a sketchbook- some never fill one entirely, and others can't move on until they do. We couldn't stop watching the excellent brush handling in this video, BTW!
Your videos are my favorites to put on while I'm drawing! I envy your ability to record such great voiceovers. This painting is beautiful, and the dark background was such a great choice. Lovely work!
I’ve moved away from practicing art in the past 6 months and therefore haven’t been watching art content. This piece was so cool that I had to click on the video and I’m so glad I did. ❤
The painting looks amazing! It's really helpful for me (a relatively new artist) to see those ugly phases and how you pull through them. When you started laying down the colors at the beginning, my brain couldn't see how they were going to turn into that end result, but the farther you went, the better I could see it. So helpful for learning to approach my own stuff.
I loved hearing about your sketchbook experience, it's always a joy to hear how artists love their sketchbooks and what parts they found difficult or fun and what they learned! Also love the painting, especially the mirrored part :O
I LOVE THIS painting. I know you said it has no meaning, it’s just a random pose and that you don’t really like the thought of someone looking into it deeper because you were the model. But I saw a light and funny meaning that I thought you may chuckle at. It started coming to me as soon as you started painting the hair on the back of your head and you really started flowing into it then you were finished and it panned out and you said you were in your painting sweatshirt and this is what we get. That’s when I noticed it looks like your in the same hair style and possibly the same sweatshirt. So I wondered if you took the photos seconds before painting. Then this story popped into my head: You thought: Mirrors! Yeah, I like mirrors. Looking at yourself in the mirror I look, fine, this is how I always look. They get what they get. This is me. The whole package and I look great actually! Okay do same poses Come on, do some art stuff body Make some faces Be silly What’s that in my eye? Look closer It’s ART! Yes there is Art inside my eye! It’s moody, it’s dynamic, there is great composition! Let’s draw this and paint it as fast as possible! Lol 😂 Sorry if none of that happened it’s just what all rushed in and I thought you would laugh. Anyway again I love this painting. Your hair is absolutely beautiful.
could u show ur palette while painting sometime? im kinda struggling w mixing paint and colors and it'd be helpful i guess to see how you go to work kind of :)
I personally leave myself a 1 month rule for sketchbook completion, this is because I'm focusing on my improvement (as a junior in hs) so I'm more-so ready for apply to an art school in the future! I'm not sure what I'll do for myself after that, though. It's a little bit scary to think about Having that said, your art is awesome! I always watch your videos when I need some motivation/inspiration, or just someone to paint with. Having your commentary in the background is nice to focus on while filling a page or two at a time. Thanks for putting in the effort to make videos they help :D and I'm sure they help an absolute ton of others too 💚💚💚
I definitely get the desire to disclaim that there's no particular meaning behind a piece with yourself as the model. I hate using myself as a model for the same reason.

This painting looks incredible and realistic! Created with jelly gouache on sketchbook paper? That’s seriously impressive ❤
Sometimes that I connect with sketchbooks when I have some distance - like its connected to that moment that I couldn't see until it was over.
Loved the gouache painting, can’t wait for the final sketchbook tour !
Kudos from Portugal
