Love the looks of that radio man!!! 😁 i did just order the boxer (clear) to go with my diy speedybee 😁 took me about a week of looking at different RCs before I went with the boxer. Your reviews and videos were a big help 😁 i have f7 stack and supernova motors for this build. My first drone build 😁 started with mini 3 pro 😉 also got 03 air unit and integra goggles after much research 😁 blew my whole freaking paycheck on this thing 🤣🤯 (bi-weekly) 🤯 love the videos. Keep them coming 😁
Could one add a couple washers under the new screws instead of cutting them short? Are the LED rings dimmable to match the LCD brightness? Lastly: It would be awesome if they offered red or amber LEDs... you know: for a more submarine/aviation look.
not installed correctly use the other plastic piece to hold the led ring. zero issues with screw then. Face LEDs down for bright, face up on the plastic retainer for reduced LED glare in your face
If you're not sure about whether you'll have to take a knife to the back plate, just pop open your module bay and if you have holes on both lower corners, it'll be fine. Does anyone know the thickness of the LEDs? is it possible to use the CNC gimbal spacers AND the LEDs together? Gimbal spacers add 4.5mm
Fantastic video, Ian! Thanks a bunch for the tutorial! 😃 When I buy this radio I'm probably going to buy an extra face plate... Then I'm going to try to paint it with spray paint... Something crazy. Then, if it works out, I'm going to use it! 😂 Anyway, stay safe there with your family! 🖖😊
Have the radio but as for perfection, the only thing that is annoying, is the antenna. You cannot have a nice grip to tighten it and when you rotate it the antenna itself the wrong way (as it spins), you might loosen the antenna i have noticed, so I always double check it is tightened enough.
Inside mine it says Boxer v2.0 (on the board). I did not have a single issue with screws and they are the same length you showed in your video before you cut them to new length. I also did not have any trouble with those plastic pieces catching on the back cover. It fits like a glove without any modifications on my end. Did they change anything with new revisions?
I cut about 2mm on mine. Eyeballed it and only had to shorten one a bit more. Make sure to cut metal that sticks out to the sides too much after cutting so that you don't create a makeshift drill bit that would ruin the plastic you're trying to screw into
@@malte9999 It is my understanding, that the ELRS protocol is so different than all the legacy protocol, that it would be best to have two radios. I mainly fly fixed wing including FPV with Ardupilot firmware. And if I want to fly quad copters, I should just start from scratch since BetaFlight, ELRS, EdgeTx have better EcoSystem.
My setup is a TX16S with internal ELRS and an external 4 in1. Everything I have is already converted to ELRS or will be soon, except for some Horizon Hobby BNFs. For trainer mode with the Kids I have an RP2 connected to one of the AUX serial ports. The Receiver sends SBUS to the trainer radio and the radios for the kids all do ELRS to that receiver. This setup works great for me, without issues. Who said that you should have two different radios and why. It would good to know, so that we can address this in EdgeTX.
What is the chance to switch off those leds while arming. Because it's useless if it flash all the time. Especially on evening - this is official invite to moscitos. My back lite is always off during flight.
Joshua Bardwell had the brightness on a pot so you could turn it up and down. Once you've watched that video then you can program the controller as per one of his videos. When the arm is high, brightness is low and that should do it.
Hated the Zorro. Purchased a Boxer with AG01 set which was installed on day one. Hate the Boxer too. Just got my hands on the new revision CNC gimbals for my Tango 2. I've done the internal ELRS mod on that so it's back to being the perfect daily driver. If only TBS continued to support the Tango 2. Lost all faith in Trappy so where my next radio purchase will come from who knows?

personal taste is.... personal. I belong to a generation (like Ian) who lived before the wide spread use of LED's (maybe you are too). I enjoy the way LED's look because of this. For those who have grown up with LED's on everything they don't enjoy them in the same way. It is much like certain parts of the world like chrome or gold plate. If you go to a shop, there are many different styles of pretty much everything, this is because not everyone likes the same thing. Because something looks 'blooming awful' to you, doesn't mean that it does look bad, just that you don't like it. It may be surprising, but other people are different, like different things, and those preferences are equally as valid. I too like these and have installed them on my radio, as have many others.
@@doccock100 I not only dislike them for the look. They also drop the height of the sticks, which is not something I would want. They add no functionality and are a needless cost. As pointed out even the screws are the wrong length which risks damaging your radio. I just don't see any plus points to be honest. I'm also of a ripe age but find nothing appealing about cheap colourful lights or tacky brightly coloured anodised components. Just my opinion though.
great stuff, I think they’re super effective especially with those highlighted edges on the AG01’s
I just did my Tx16 on Friday with blue and yes, they do fill in on the gimbles making them look nice

is there anyway to assign one of the pot switches (S1) and use it as a led dimmer for both led outputs?
Nice look. Love the boxer

I found out a way to make the LED ring lights adjustable. I made a tutorial on my channel.
The gimbal lights look good!

Great led mod. However, can I make a switch to turn off while I need to?
Christmas Tree. Nice cosmetic upgrade.
Looks like a surprised robot. Short circuit vibes
I like them, I wish there was more colours than Blue & White
Is there an option to turn off the backlight?
Great video! Do you know if the LEDs can be turned off via EdgeTX?
Nice 1 Ian.
Good video, but no drama is required about the screw length.
You must have an early, or pre-production unit, I did the same upgrade AG01 gimbals and blue LEDs, but had no problem with the back not fitting.
Mine was a review sample.
Great, thx you.
Hello Ian, Great video. do you have a video in removing the face plate of the boxer?
One simple question:
How do I disable the LED when I don't need it?
hey ian ty for this viedo! question though, why di d our power led switch from blue to green?
If you're not sure about whether you'll have to take a knife to the back plate, just pop open your module bay and if you have holes on both lower corners, it'll be fine.

Maybe I'm a little too old for that... Not sure how many places in the world allow flying after sunset +30 or sunrise -30 anymore

Can this be done to the Black DJI Controller?
Were did u buy the black AG01’s i Car’nt find then is stock anywhere ?
My leds didnt come with the screws at all, can you tell me what size they are? I want to buy some instead of dealing with returns.
some of the boxers seems to have jitter on any gimbal, what s the deal then ?
i wonder, would that fit on a zorro :)
I would like to have more switches

Yea as mine was pre release I had the old moulded back cover and that’s why it was catching. All the consumer ones are fine.
You think there will be a color screen interface boxer in the future?
who knows, but a oled screen mod exists. Basically background is black and text and such is the color you choose at purchase
Do these led rings also work on the original gimbals?
Yea.
@Mads Teck, how many millimeters or inches did you cut the screws?
I cut about 2mm on mine. Eyeballed it and only had to shorten one a bit more.

Which RadioMaster has built in ELRS and legacy protocols/hardware built into the radio (No external module)?
There are none with both. It’s ELRS or 4 in one.
@@MadRC so basically if I want ELRS radio buy boxer or buy external module for my TX16.
Or a Boxer with Elrs and an external 4 in 1

Hi new subscriber here. I thought if you broke the seal on the bottom of the TX it voids your warranty. Is this true?
Radiomaster are very good. If it’s a manufacturer issue they will sort it. They sell the gimbals and these rings as accessories
