    I'm actually going to take my prerequisites this fall! I'm 23 years old and just now figuring out what i want to do. My wife is supporting me all the way and I have a 1 1/2 year old son, so it's going to be a challenge but I have gone out of my way to purchase used textbooks on dental hygiene and am working my way through them already! I know there aren't a ton of male dental hygienists, but that's not going to stop me!

    I went to school 5 years ago and received a Bachelors degree in Communications with a minor in Biology. After college I went right to work and realized I wasn't happy in my field. Not to mention I had zero work life balance. I recently decided to go back to school at a community college that offers an Associates Degree in Dental Hygiene. I have to retake some of the prerequisites but my goal is to apply for the Dental Hygiene program. This video helped me be more at ease with getting my associates degree vs a bachelors!

    I LOVE YOUR VIDEOS!! personally the science field has always been interesting to me, but it's just recently that i've really been interested in pursuing an associates degree (called a diploma here in canada) in dental hygiene! i'm going into my last year of high school and super excited/nervous about my future of post-secondary studies! one question though: did you find that your attainment of a bachelor's degree in biology before studying to be a dental assistant/hygienist helped you once you entered the workforce? my dad has always assumed (and so have i, in a way) that i would be attending a university and getting my bachelors. like you said, society has evolved in such a fashion that getting one's bachelor's degree is almost as expected as getting one's high school diploma. however, i would love to go right into college and study dental hygiene in a two year program right after i finish high school, but i would also be okay with going to university first and getting a bachelor's of science to appease my dad (and to get the proverbial university 'experience'). what do you think i should do?
    thanks so much, love your video smmmmm!

      My understanding is it depends on the path that school offers.. For example, a school could offer Bachelor of Science in Dental Hygiene Degree (BSDH) where the 2 years of prerequisites are build into the 4 year program (2 years prerequisites + 2 years program courses) OR toward a Associates Degree in Dental Hygiene (ASDH) where the 2 year include both prerequisites (not as many as a BS) and the program courses. Just examples but again it depends on the how the degree is set up by the school of choice. I hope that made sense.

    How long did it take for you get into the dental hygiene program?

    • @TeethTalk
      @TeethTalk  4 года назад +2

      I'm very thankful to have been accepted from my first application. I already had my bachelors in biology with good grades - which made my application competitive for my DH school. Please keep in mind that every school is different and may weigh different things differently! Hope this helps!

    Do you have to be great at math, science or chemistry to be a dental hygienist?

    So you telling that I can make an associate on dental hygiene I just have to study one or two year more to get my biology bachelor ?

    • @TeethTalk
      @TeethTalk  4 года назад +1

      Sometimes! It depends on the school! If you take most of the science courses needed for a biology bachelors while preparing for DH school - it might only take a couple more years to complete a bachelor degree in science. Like I said - each school and program is different - but it is possible! Hope this helps!

      Holaa! Yo tambien soy de Venezuela! Y si puedes obtener el bachelors después del associate solo tienes que conseguir un programa en una universidad que lo haga, y luego de que tengas el bachelors eso te sirve para estudiar odontología. Es un largo proceso pero es posible. Y lo bueno es que vas por pasos y nada más con el associate ya puedes trabajar y ganar súper bien.

    Hi my community college does not offer Dental hygiene. So does that mean i have to major in liberal arts then after that do i join the dental program?

    • @TeethTalk
      @TeethTalk  3 года назад

      hi friend - every program's admission requirements are different - they usually have specific prerequisite courses to take prior to applying. my best advice is to look up the admissions requirements of your intended DH program. until then, here is my DH schooling and career hub with more information: teethtalkgirl.com/rdh

    Hello, this is my first year in college working on BS degree my question is can i be dental hygienist and get a job right after I graduate with Bachelor of science? Please answer my question thank you

      My understanding is it depends on which path toward becoming a dental hygienist you want to take. Associates or a Bachelors.
      Either way you have to complete a " Dental Hygiene program" in order to work as one upon graduating. You cant alone have a B.S. in some other subject then try to obtain a job as a DH.
      Unless you are working on a Bachelor of Science IN Dental Hygiene Degree.
      For example, I have my B.S. in Education so I am using my credits that will transfer toward my prerequisites, toward a Bachelor of Science in Dental Hygiene Degree (BSDH) OR toward a Associates Degree in Dental Hygiene (ASDH). I hope that made sense.

      By DDS...I think you mean Doctor of Dental Surgery which is the degree of a Dentist. A Dental Hygientist is like a Nurse while a Dentist is like a Doctor..
