I was very fortunate to have been in the class rooms here at Atlantic Flight Training when the Electras and the DC 6'S were flying, often we had to stop, mid lecture, to wait for the engine run ups to complete, it felt like going back in time to all of those flying adventures I had read. Thank you for posting and sharing..
@@aviationlba747 thank you, I was very fortunate. I must say I was only there as a student in their flight training section toward a CPL/ ATPL but as long as you had the right attitude they treated you as one of the group.
I live in Ontario in these shitty conditions, I'm watching this and looking at four feet of snow and ice outside my front door-haven't been able to leave in days. I didn't even realize we even had a distinct accent and people still say "eh" until I watched this show. Thank you for this, now I just have to find all the rest of these!
I saw the part of ‘Joes’ initial visit to Coventry but it’s lovely to see this full show. I’m actually welling up in tears as my Dad used to work at Coventry Airport for Reed Aviation as a freight supervisor. He loved his job so much that he drove nightly from Nottinghamshire. Occasionally when his car was in the garage, either my husband or I would take him all the way to Coventry, the worst night ever was back in 1995 when Coventry Airport was very often in the news as a roguish company there were taking live Veal Calves from Coventry to Amsterdam and protestors were lined up trying to stop the trucks of day old calves from entering the airport. We got there not long after animal lover, Jill Phipps had been crushed to death under the wheels of the truck. The mood was very sombre and it was terrible. Being an animal lover myself, I felt so much for Jill and her family. My dad knew the ladies there as he would pip his horn and give them a supportive cheery wave as he went into work each evening. Very sad times! Live exports of veal calves were stopped though due to pressure from animal lovers. Sadly my Dad died in 2010, he would have loved to have seen this and to reminisce, even though in his later years he passed his hgv1 and went trucking, he still loved the airports. He had started out with Air Bridge freight at East Midlands airport and as contracts changed and companies altered, he moved to Birmingham airport and finally to Coventry. I love Joe and Mikey at Buffalo. I’m sure my Dad would’ve loved watching them with their piston pounders before they bought the Lockheed’s from Atlantic Airlines (now West Atlantic UK)
I love to see these old birds repurposed for something useful. I wish this series had gone on. When I worked at Federal Mogul I sent a lot of parts to YellowKnife where these guys are based. No doubt some of those parts were delivered by Buffalo air. Take care my Canadian friends!
Great video. Thanks for sharing. My father used to love flying the Electra on business trips many years ago. But he's gone now. He would have really enjoyed this video.
This show was very entertaining. All the drama and flying by the seat of your pants due to people and thier passion. I ADMIRE JO. He won my respect after all the things that made him a true hard ass. Everyone at Buffalo are good ole top quality boys n girls. Cheers to all of you and what you have done. Never give up even though you may need to evolve things. Your integrity is priceless. Your all family
The most memorable departure of an Electra was when my brother with his unit was being flown from Melbourne to Queensland, to join the next detachment to Vietnam. 20 year olds, in Aussie jungle greens walked out across the tarmac and climbed the steps to board the plane. It was a night flight. The Electra looked bright and shiny under the black sky. My parents were very upset. It was a spectacular, but sombre event.
Watching in 2021. Worked in Atlantic ops early 2000s. Privileged to have flown on many of the L188 fleet at the time... captain Jake Lockie ,(Flew both a/c back in this episode) legend and a True gent.
Back in 1982 i use to work electras in miami and they are great tough planes but to work in the fuel tanks its a nightmare. Brings back many good memories of cam air miami fla. 1982.
I completely understand the lack of an old plane. It used to fly and maintain the ex Eastern Airlines construction Number 1056 owned and operated by the Federal Electricity Commission of Mexico. It was a great experience to work and fly this giant freighter that served to load many things necessary for the construction of the "Laguna Verde" nuclear power generator in the state of Veracruz in the 80's, among other cargo flights throughout the United States and Latin America. Many years have passed since then, and many memories come from these Ice Pilots episodes that recreate, almost the same type of operation back then at the Federal Commission.
I flew on that plane back in 1998 when it was in Alaska it was reven air lines flew 3-4 times back and forth to sand point Alaska, cool plane could fly threw any weather, glad to see them bring the old girl back to life, how hell did end up,in Great Britain
Mikey. At the start was reminding me of Mikey from (OCC) Orange County Choppers, and most of us remember what his skills were ????????????????????????? But as i watched this video through to the end he turned out to be not to bad after all. He is still young and it seems his dad has not really given him any responsibilities as yet so he is just filling in the day at the moment. But i am sure once his dad steps aside somewhat Mikey can finally start be more involved. It is a bit hard to take things serious when his own did does not let him get involved. Very Good video, Very happy i found it. Regards Peter.
22:48 - I'm willing to bet when that came on the screen there were some young people saying "what the hell is that". Yes, we used to look at actual globes to see where other countries are and colour maps of different continents...I just love this show, even if it does make me feel a bit old.
Mikey, you are such a cool, funny and layed back guy with a great sense of humor. Your dad is jus as cool as you, I wouldn't mind flying for you guys I think it'll be a great experience. I also love the Electras, they are solid airplanes. England's loss, Canada's Gain. Go buffalo air Go,👍👍👍

Love the airplanes and operational challenges but hate the manufactured drama and conflict of these kinds of shows. "Will Mikey the Slacker get his shit together in time to save the day and win Dad's respect??!" OMG, I'm on the edge of my seat!
David Dalgetty Why the hell does alone dump on Mikey? He's a good kid provides a little comedy relief, helps his dad, it's all good. Joe join the crowd, I'm not a fan of the Electra either my feeling is largely based on passenger use. The love of aviation and at times intense competition between Britain, Canada and the US will always be a cool deal. When the last 747-400 hits Mojave or conversion into a freighter, that will be emotional for me. Likely the safest aircraft ever considering the numbers manufactured and the incredible hours and miles flown.
I agree with you and he really transformed in the last few seasons. I knew this was going to be yet another reality show with an interesting business/industry and of course a bit of drama thrown in. The pecking order was quite interesting from being a rampie to a pilot. Audrey used her gender to get some kudos from Joe and then acted mystified when he didn't cry a river when she bailed. She didn't even bother to thank him for his training and time. She might have received a better farewell if she hadn't been so rude and entitled.
Could not agree with you more buddy. Mikey seems like he would be a great laugh would love to go for a few beers with him if i ever made it over to Red Deer
